Carrier Name: DOCOMO PACIFIC, INC Hearing Aid Compatible (HAC) Telephones WT Docket No. 07-250 Report Date: January 15, 2009 Carrier Name: DOCOMO PACIFIC, INC. (“DOCOMO”) 219 South Marine Corp Drive. Suite 206 Tamuning Guam 96913 Tel (671)688-2355 ext 275 Attn: John Wu Email: [email protected] Counsel: Lukas, Nace, Gutierrez & Sachs Todd Slamowitz, Esq. 1650 Tysons Blvd., Suite 1500 McLean, Virginia 22102 Ph. (703) 584-8673 Email: [email protected] The following information is submitted in accordance with FCC Rule Section 20.18(i)(3). Compliant handset models offered since July 1, 2008: See Exhibit A. Non-compliant models offered since July 1, 2008: See Exhibit A. Total numbers of compliant and non-compliant models offered to customers for each air interface over which DOCOMO offers service as of this date: CDMA / GSM Compliant: 12 12 Noncompliant: 16 19 Retail availability of compliant handset models: Compliant handset models are available in all of DOCOMO retail outlets, where all of DOCOMO compliant handset models are made available for consumers to test. Explanation of the methodology for determining levels of functionality (e.g. operating capabilities, features, prices) of compliant phones: Phones are classified into 3 categories according to retail price: 1. Low tier – phones generally have a low-resolution camera, low resolution displays and may not have Bluetooth, they also generally lack such features as MP3 players, E-mail, and expandable memory. 2. Mid tier –phones may have a medium-resolution camera, Advanced Bluetooth, and Internet access capability, but lack E-mail access. 3. High tier – phones have advanced features such as a 2MP or above camera, Advanced Bluetooth, expandable memory, email access, touch screen, and internet access capability. Status of product labeling: The compliant phones offered by DOCOMO clearly display the M3 and T3 HAC rating on the packaging material of the handset. HAC handsets with different ratings over different air interfaces or different frequency bands display the lowest RF interference reduction (M3) and inductive coupling capability (T3) rating assigned to that handset for any air interface or frequency band. An explanation of the ANSI C63.19 rating system is included in the device’s user’s manual or as an insert in the packaging material for the handset. DOCOMO discloses to consumers of any handset model that incorporates a Wi-Fi air interface, by clear and effective means (e.g., inclusion of call-out cards or other media, revisions to packaging materials, supplying of information on websites) that the handset has not been rated for hearing aid compatibility with respect to Wi-Fi operation. Outreach efforts: DOCOMO’s compliant handset models are publicly identified for consumers and audiologists. Compliant models are listed on DOCOMO’s web site. DOCOMO trains its retail salespeople regarding which digital wireless phones are compliant. Compliant HAC phones are identified at the point of sale in retail locations on the merchandising call out cards. Consumers are given a 30-day trial period within which to try out digital wireless phones to determine whether they will work properly with their hearing aids. Flexible return policies are made known to consumers seeking to obtain compliant phones. Website: DOCOMO operates a publicly-accessible website. The address of the page(s) containing the information regarding hearing aid-compatible handset models is: www.docomopacific.com The site lists all HAC models currently offered by DOCOMO the ratings of those models, and an explanation of the rating system. The website describes the levels of functionality, as defined by DOCOMO, and specifies the level of each HAC model. EXHIBIT A Hearing Aid Compatible Units Months Sold in 2008 (EST.) Steven Pinker iv Acknowledgements First of all, I want to thank my two main supervisors Ulrich Hoffrage and Fred Mast for their support and guidance. Special thanks go to Ulrich Hoffrage for his constant and always immediate assistance. His door is always open, both literally and figuratively. I extend my appreciation to my three colleagues Chris White, Jan K. Woike, and Sebastian Hafenbr¨adl. They were always open for questions and we had many enriching discussions. Moreover, I would like to thank the following people for their help with the experiments. For Experiment 1, my thanks go to Giovanni Rivera Diaz, Ada Lezama Lugo, Huseyin Cumhur Tekin, and Eren Vardarli for their help with preparing the material, writing the program, and collecting the data, and Chris M.
