Baritone Guitar Washes | User Manual BARITONE GUITAR WASHES | USER MANUAL BARITONE GUITAR WASHES AMBIENT GUITAR SWELLS for KONTAKT 5.8+ INTRODUCTION BARITONE GUITAR WASHES is a highly versatile Kontakt instrument based on recordings of a baritone electric guitar with an aluminium neck custom made by NUDE Guitars in collaboration with legendary dark ambient artist Eraldo Bernocchi. BARITONE GUITAR WASHES is based on our proprietary Kontakt engine (WASHES) that incorporates three layers of sound – Body, Grit and Air, each with a specific function and sound characteristics. SOUND PALETTE The resulting palette of possible sounds is unique in its breadth, whilst still retaining the DNA of the original sound sources. BARITONE GUITAR WASHES covers icy, thin trails, warm, sparkly harmony pads, edgy, scratchy atonal textures as well as an assortment of plucks with varying degrees of electric guitar realism. 1 BARITONE GUITAR WASHES | USER MANUAL LAYERS BODY LAYER The Body layer contains the core guitar samples, in various pickup positions (Neck, Mid, Bridge) and playing styles (Harmonics, Straight, Ebow). These samples are looped/layered to create “swells” with close to infinite release times. It also includes several instances of “pre-washed” samples, swell sounds that were recorded using custom delay and reverb settings on a Kemper Profiling Amp. Sample start times, attack and release are highly customizable, allowing for anything from short, dry naturalistic pluck sounds as well as organ-like stab sounds (without the initial attack of the guitar pluck) via 10s risers that end abruptly to classic slow-attack and slow-release pad sounds. GRIT LAYER The Grit layer serves to add a distorted, dissonant, scratchy or bowed flavour. This can either be dialed in low in the mix for a sprinkling of darkness and texture, or dialed up to be a featured element. AIR LAYER The Air layer contains a few different instances of moving air (a household hoover, air blown across an Irish Low Flute) for some high-frequency/breath-like sizzle. This layer can be added to produce organ-type sounds (think Hammond or Wurlitzer) and hints of choir. MORPHING & EDGE All three layers can be morphed by applying several target sounds (usually combinations of sounds from other layers). There are controls for direction, speed and strength of this morphing effect, allowing for maximum soundshaping capabilities. There are also detailed FX controls as well as an “EDGE” control mapped to the mod wheel by default for some added saturation and spectral shaping to bring out extra dirt and presence. INSTALLATION & GETTING STARTED 1. Download the file Riot_Audio_Baritone_Guitar_Washes.zip 2. Extract the .zip file to your instrument drive 3. Open Baritone Guitar Washes.nki in Kontakt. 4. Click on the wrench symbol at the top left 5. Click on Instrument Options 6. Select Snapshot 2 BARITONE GUITAR WASHES | USER MANUAL 7. Where it says “Snapshot Saving Location”, click on Show. This will open up a window with the snapshot location on your computer. 8. Drag the contents of the ../Snapshots/Baritone Guitar Washes/ folder in the installation package to the folder on your drive. 9. Close Baritone Guitar Washes and reopen it again. All the snapshots will now be visible in the dropdown menu next to the Riot Audio logo. USER INTERFACE BARITONE GUITAR WASHES is a two-page Kontakt instrument with deep sound design capabilities. MAIN PAGE 1 3 2 4 5 6 7 8 1 MAIN Page Tab 2 EDGE One-stop control for spectral shaping and tape saturation. Brings out smooth presence and dirt. Mapped to CC1 by default. 3 MASTER 3 BARITONE GUITAR WASHES | USER MANUAL Contains controls for Volume, Pan and Stereo Width 4 FX: DISTORTION Transistor Saturation/Distortion emulation (with toggle on/off). Includes damping control for warming up the upper frequencies. 5 FX: FILTER High Pass (HP), Band Pass (BP) or Low Pass (LP) Filters (selection toggle for one at a time) with adjustable centre frequency. 6 FX: DELAY Controls for Delay – including delay time and feedback. High feedback settings result in almost endless trails. 7 FX: REVERB Controls the amount of reverb return. The reverb is a modelled Lexicon 480 digital reverb unit with a long hall setting (9.0s). Length controls the size of the reverb – both early reflections (ER) and late reflections (LR) are adjusted with this control. 8 EQ Controls gain of low, mid and high bands of a parametric EQ. The EQs have adjustable Qs – from very wide for a musical, soft attenuation or enhancement effect to very narrow for detailed spectral characteristics. 4 BARITONE GUITAR WASHES | USER MANUAL LAYERS PAGE 14 9 15 12 10 11 + 13 9 LAYER MASTER CONTROLS Source Sound selection, layer level meter (for monitoring clipping at layer bus level) and volume control. 10 START Controls the sample start position for each layer. Use this in order to eliminate the attack of the pick/hand at the beginning of the samples or select different sections of the Grit layers. 11 ATTACK/RELEASE Controls the envelope shape for each layer independently. 12 13 GRIT and AIR Layers 14 MORPHING Includes Morphing target selection menus (for each layer separately) as well as controls for the strength of the morphing effect (Amount) and the shape of the morphing effect envelope (Speed). 5 BARITONE GUITAR WASHES | USER MANUAL 15 DIRECTION Controls the direction of the morphing effect – set to right to left in order to start with the target instead of with the source sample. VG Stratocaster® VG G-5A * 1 0 - 8 0 9 2 3 0 0 0 1 5 * Main Features The V-Guitar is a new instrument that fuses a traditional Fender® Stratocaster® with Roland’s cutting-edge technology. The G-5A VG Stratocaster® can be used not only as a conventional Stratocaster®, but also allows you to play a wide range of sounds using COSM technology such as those of humbucking pickups or an acoustic guitar, simply by turning a single knob. You can also instantly switch to an alternate tuning or the sound of a 12-string guitar without touching the tuning pegs, allowing a single V-Guitar G-5A to fulfill the roles of multiple guitars. What is the COSM? Technology that simulates existing physical structures, materials, and the like using different, virtual means is called “modeling technology.” COSM (Composite Object Sound Modeling) is a technical innovation from Roland that combines a number of such sound- modeling technologies to create new and unique sounds. When Les heard he was on tour a few years later, he signed this guitar to Bruce. Lester William Polsfuss was an inventor and musician. A talented musician as well as inventor, Les Paul is credited with various recording innovations and his skilled guitar playing, however he is probably best known for helping to design the Gibson Les Paul. The consigner of this item worked directly with Les Paul. 2: 1963 Jan & Dean Master Tapes USD 3,000 - 5,000 Two master tracks from the album "Jan & Dean Take Linda Surfin'".
