Forensic experts use ancient Semite skulls to reveal what Christ may have looked like. Retired medical artist recreated the face of a man, living at the same time and place as Jesus, using forensic techniques and passages from the Bible. Portrait shows the Son of God with a wide face, hazel eyes and a beard. He is also depicted as having short curly hair and a tanned complexion. The 'reconstruction' was based on three Semite skulls found in Israel. The Holy Face of Jesus is a title for specific images which some Catholics believe to be miraculously-formed representations of the face of Jesus Christ. The image obtained from the Shroud of Turin is associated with a specific medal worn by some Roman Catholics and is also one of the Catholic devotions to Christ. Various acheiropoieta (literally "not-handmade") items relating to Christ have been reported throughout the centuries, and devotions to the face of Jesus have been practiced. Devotions to JESUS Christ is often depicted as a fair skinned man with blue eyes and long, flowing dark hair. But this could not be further from what he actually looked like, according to expert opinion in a new book. 5. • A Critical Summary of Observations, Data and Hypotheses
TThhee SShhrroouudd ooff TTuurriinn A Critical Summary of Observations, Data and Hypotheses If the truth were a mere mathematical formula, in some sense it would impose itself by its own power. But if Truth is Love, it calls for faith, for the ‘yes’ of our hearts. Pope Benedict XVI Version 4.0 Copyright 2017, Turin Shroud Center of Colorado Preface The purpose of the Critical Summary is to provide a synthesis of the Turin Shroud Center of Colorado (TSC) thinking about the Shroud of Turin and to make that synthesis available to the serious inquirer. Our evaluation of scientific, medical forensic and historical hypotheses presented here is based on TSC’s tens of thousands of hours of internal research, the Shroud of Turin Research Project (STURP) data, and other published research. The Critical Summary synthesis is not itself intended to present new research findings. With the exception of our comments all information presented has been published elsewhere, and we have endeavored to provide references for all included data. We wish to gratefully acknowledge the contributions of several persons and organizations. First, we would like to acknowledge Dan Spicer, PhD in Physics, and Dave Fornof for their contributions in the construction of Version 1.0 of the Critical Summary. We are grateful to Mary Ann Siefker and Mary Snapp for proofreading efforts. The efforts of Shroud historian Jack Markwardt in reviewing and providing valuable comments for the Version 4.0 History Section are deeply appreciated. We also are very grateful to Barrie Schwortz (Shroud.com) and the STERA organization for their permission to include photographs from their database of STURP photographs.

  • The Holy Face of Jesus
25 THE HOLY FACE OF JESUS ANSELME LONGPRÉ In his study on the glory of God, (La Gloire et la Croix, II, 3, pp. 408-10.) Hans Urs von Balthasar considers the "face" in the light of Scripture. He wrote that "face" signifies the whole person, and is indeed that person's self-expression manifest to others, offering itself to be discovered. In the Face of God the glory is so intense that a direct vision of it would be fatal to man, and yet we see in the Old Testament how ardently Israel yearned to see God's Face. The suppliant seeks the Face of God and begs him not to hide it (Psa 27:8). Now, the glory of God shone in the face of Christ (II Cor 4:6); "Who sees me, sees the Father" (Jn 14:9). And if, at present, we "do not yet see Him as He is" (I Jn 3:2), it is not because Jesus' human face conceals the divine, but because we see only imperfectly; we cannot yet see God as we are seen by Him (I Cor 13:12). The Holy Face of Jesus and the Holy Spirit "In principle," von Balthasar continues, "there is no longer a veil between our face and the glorious face of God." This is explained by St. Paul ((I Cor 3:6, 4:6), who contrasts the glory of the Mosaic Law, which was letter and stone, to that of the Gospel, which is Spirit. The "letter and the stone" were an intermediary, a veil, preventing the Face-to-face between God and man.

  • History of the Mount St. Alphonsus Retreat Center
History of the Mount St. Alphonsus Retreat Center 1001 Broadway (Route 9W) PO Box 219 Esopus, NY 12429-0219 Before the Redemptorists built Mount St. Alphonsus in 1904, the land was owned by Robert Livingston Pell. Said to be the greatest fruit farm in the country, it was known for its apples and grapes, which were shipped to European markets. Pell developed a species of apples, the Newton Pippin, grown in an orchard of more than 25,000 trees. The Pell Coat of Arms included a pelican piercing its own breast to feed its young, an ancient symbol of the Eucharist. The Redemptorist community, still growing at the turn of the century, looked at property in New York, Connecticut and Pennsylvania before settling here. In 1903, they paid $57,000 for the property. The Redemptorist order bought a quarrying operation in Port Deposit, MD, to produce the granite, used in this building. Construction of the original building began in 1904 and was finished in 1907. The wing on the south end was added in later years. The property has expanded to the present 412 acres on the Hudson River. Redemptorists used the building as a seminary for the training of priests. After initial formation at St. Mary's in Northeast, PA, for six years, students made a year-long long Novitiate in Ilchester, MD, and then spent six years here at Mount St. Alphonsus. The property contained many buildings in earlier times when cattle, horses, pigs, chickens and crops that included corn, potatoes, apples and grapes were raised. The wine used for Mass was made on the property.

Carmelites of the Holy Face Holy Family Carmelite Hermitage O.Carm Corran, Leap, Co. Cork, Rep. of Ireland. Website: carmelitesholyface.com Issue 14 - February 2021 “Convert us O God, and show us Thy Face: and we shall be saved.” Psalm 79:4 Dear Friends and Benefactors, One year ago, how little did we dream that we were so close to witnessing the fulfilment of the prophecies! Things have moved rapidly, however, and we are now experiencing the beginning of the chastisement foretold by Our Lady of Fatima. Almost every nation is suffering under a Communist dictatorship, for Russia has spread her errors throughout the world. Though it is not yet so openly tyrannical a system in every country as it has been for a hundred years already in China and North Korea for example, nevertheless, it will not be long before we will find ourselves as restricted as those poor unfortunate citizens are, if nothing and nobody intervenes. We have certainly all been affected in some way or other by the lockdowns and the crippling restrictions imposed on healthy citizens under the pretext of a “dangerous virus”; we have been bombarded with false information; pressured to believe whatever we are told by the media; urged to do whatever the godless governments and false ecclesial shepherds tell us is for our own good and the good of others, even if our common sense tells us it is unreasonable. Is this any different from the tyranny which existed behind the former Iron Curtain, and still exists in Communist China and North Korea today? At least recent events have made it more and more obvious that the real danger threatening society is atheistic Communism.

THE SANTISSIMA ANNUNZIATA OF FLORENCE, MEDICI PORTRAITS, AND THE COUNTER REFORMATION IN ITALY by Bernice Ida Maria Iarocci A thesis submitted in conformity with the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy Department of Art University of Toronto © Copyright by Bernice Iarocci 2015 THE SANTISSIMA ANNUNZIATA OF FLORENCE, MEDICI PORTRAITS, AND THE COUNTER REFORMATION IN ITALY Bernice Ida Maria Iarocci Doctor of Philosophy Department of Art University of Toronto 2015 A defining feature of the Counter-Reformation period is the new impetus given to the material expression of devotion to sacred images and relics. There are nonetheless few scholarly studies that look deeply into the shrines of venerated images, as they were renovated or decorated anew during this period. This dissertation investigates an image cult that experienced a particularly rich elaboration during the Counter-Reformation – that of the miracle-working fresco called the Nunziata, located in the Servite church of the Santissima Annunziata in Florence. By the end of the fifteenth century, the Nunziata had become the primary sacred image in the city of Florence and one of the most venerated Marian cults in Italy. My investigation spans around 1580 to 1650, and includes texts related to the sacred fresco, copies made after it, votives, and other additions made within and around its shrine. I address various components of the cult that carry meanings of civic importance; nonetheless, one of its crucial characteristics is that it partook of general agendas belonging to the Counter- Reformation movement. That is, it would be myopic to remain within a strictly local scope when considering this period.

  • Devotion to the Holy Face of Jesus of the Shroud of Turin
“Reparation is work destined to save society” (Pope Piux IX) Devotion to the Holy Face of Jesus of the Shroud of Turin “I desire that My Face, which reflects the deep anguish of My Soul, and the sorrow and love of My Heart, be more honored! He who contemplates Me, consoles Me...” “Each time My Face is contemplated I will pour My Love into hearts, and through My Holy Face many souls will be saved.”(Our Lord to Mother Maria Pierina) Make Reparation to Our Lord Pray five Glory Be’s daily to console Our Lord and to make reparation for the outrages which He received during His Passion, and which He continues to receive every day in the Blessed Sacrament – outrages such as: • Receiving Holy Communion in the state of mortal sin; • Receiving Holy Communion in the hand instead of on the tongue; • Receiving Holy Communion while standing instead of kneeling (for those who are able); • Trampling on Our Lord present in the particles of the consecrated Hosts dropped on the floor because of Communion in the hand; • Lay people usurping the priest’s role (for which his hands have been consecrated) of administering the Blessed Sacrament; • Irreverence and indifference toward Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament On Tuesdays, if possible, visit Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament, offering prayers of reparation (especially the Sorrowful Mysteries of the holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the Litany of the Holy Face) for the outrages endured daily by Our Lord in the Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist. On Reparation and the Four Promises: “All who wear the Shroud Medal* and, if possible every Tuesday, make a visit to the Blessed Sacrament, in order to repair the outrages which the Face of My Son, Jesus, received during His Passion, and receives every day in the Holy Eucharist, will be strengthened in the Faith; be prompt to defend the Faith; overcome all difficulties, internal and external; [and] be granted a peaceful, holy death under the loving gaze of My Divine Son.” (Our Lady to Mother Maria Pierina) *For information on the medal, contact The Fatima Center.

Whoever gazes upon Me already consoles Me… NOVENA IN HONOR OF THE HOLY FACE OF JESUS OF THE SHROUD OF TURIN “See how I suffer. Nevertheless, I am understood by so few. What ingratitude on the part of those who say they love Me. I desire that It be honored by a Special Feast on Tuesday in Quinquagesima [Shrove Tuesday – the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday]. The Feast will be preceded by a Novena in which the faithful make reparation to Me, uniting themselves in participating with Me in My sorrow.” (Our Lord Jesus Christ to Sister Maria Pierina) This novena may be said anytime during the year. THE CHURCH I have been shown that Our Lord loves to have his most Holy Face enshrined in the Church, for many have been destined to be converted through gazing upon his most Holy Face. “My heart says of you, ‘seek his face’! Your face, Lord, I will seek. Do not hide your face from me” (Psalm 27; 8-10). The Father sent The Word in person commanding Him to show Himself openly so that the world could see Him and be saved. “Whoever gazes upon me, already consoles me” (Blessed Mother Pierina). HERESY – BLASPHEMY - IMPURITY “For whoever is ashamed of me and of my words, of him will the Son of man be ashamed when he comes in his glory and the glory of the Father and of the holy angels” (Luke 9-26). CRISIS OF FAITH On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the second Vatican council, Pope Benedict XVI, the Vicar of PROUD Christ on earth has diagnosed the state of health of the contemporary Church in the modern World. There is a serious present day crisis of Faith. His prayer, reflections, and teaching have invited the whole Church to renew Her We should be proud that we are Catholics and belong to the Holy Roman Catholic Church. Be proud of Jesus! Be "Faith" in God. This is significant in light of what Jesus said to the apostles who asked him why they had no power proud to boldly show his most Holy Face to all, and to place the image of his most Holy Face, not only in your over a demon.
