Is it true that James Durbin/American Idol Coming to Santa Cruz? Yes. American Idol is bringing James Durbin to Santa Cruz for a hometown visit on May 14th, as long as he makes it into the Final 3. That will be decided by voters on May 11th, and revealed to the public during the show on May 12th.
What is Durbin Day? On American Idol, the show’s final three contestants return to their hometowns for a celebration. “Durbin Day” will officially recognize James Durbin’s impressive accomplishments on American Idol and provide the Santa Cruz community with an opportunity to cheer on their hometown hero.
Where and when can I see James Durbin? Exact details of James Durbin’s visit are still being planned and will be announced as soon as possible. We do know that James will visit a few locations in the Santa Cruz area and end his day at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. There will be several opportunities to see James and get his autograph throughout the day.
Will James Durbin perform in Santa Cruz? James will perform 24 songs on the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk’s beach bandstand at approximately 5pm on May 14th. He will sign autographs following the show.
Why such a short performance? James needs to reserve his voice for his toughest battle, beating the other two finalists and becoming the next American Idol. The Boardwalk has arranged for the White Album Ensemble, a Beatle’s tribute band made up of musicians who have played with James before, to perform at 4pm. When James arrives, he will join them for a few songs.
How much does it cost to see James Durbin? All events are free.
What are the seating rules for the concert? Rules will be similar to a Friday Night concert. The area in front of the stage will open at Noon.
Can I get James’ autograph? James will be signing autographs at several locations to be announced. He will also sign autographs near the stage, after he performs at the Boardwalk.
How can I/my group get involved? The best way to get involved is to show up and cheer for James. The full schedule of his locations will be announced next week. Where is the best place to park? Parking will be limited and beach area parking lots are expected to fill up quickly. Locals should plan to walk, bike, or skateboard to the Santa Cruz Beach area.
