Kantana eyes digital bonanza 17 Jan 2014 at 00:00 Kantana Group Plc, the country's leading media and entertainment company, aims to generate revenue of 1.7 billion baht this year, up from 1.2 billion last year. As a leading content provider, the group will benefit greatly from the emergence of digital TV, starting some time in April. Content providers are broadcasting stakeholders who receive the highest benefits from the 24 digital channels approved by the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission, said Jaruek Kaljaruek, executive chairman of Kantana. The group has been preparing for digital TV by building up content for more than two years to support different channels, including local content, international content and satellite TV channels. Kantana has acquired the media rights for many international TV programmes including game shows and series such as Gossip Girl, Ugly Betty, The Face, Don't Lose The Money, The Taste and American Idol. They will be localised to Thai versions. It believes an international format is the fastest way to produce content that ensures viewers will be attracted. The acquired programmes have been successful in many countries. Kantana spent about 200 million baht on acquisitions. For local content, Kantana is equipped with creative and production teams for content that can be tailor-made for each TV station, such as The Weirdos of Thailand, Millionaire Pretty Queen and many other shows airing on Kantana's satellite TV channels. "We are negotiating with six digital TV stations to air our programmes on their channels, including Channel 3, Channel 7 and Thairath TV," said Mr Jaruek. To produce and supply TV programmes, it has invested about 500 million baht on new studios and it has increased staff by 30% to double production capacity to 40 TV programmes. Sasikorn Chansate, chief executive of Kantana's TV arm, said digitisation is not just a revolution in technical terms but is also a change to Thailand's media landscape in terms of business models, partnerships and regulation. The diversified communication platform requires tonnes of creative talent. Additionally, to strengthen the company's position as a leading content provider, it has organised the Thailand Format Challenge 2014 to open space for those with a passion for content production to submit their entries in a show-reel format to win a prize of 1 million baht. Submissions for the competition will be accepted from Feb 1. The project will not only drive awareness of Kantana but also help Thai talent to achieve global recognition. Lee DeWyze Biography FRAMES Lee DeWyze formally launches the pivotal next stage of what is already a high-profile musical career with his Vanguard Records debut – Frames. The 27-year-old DeWyze seriously considered calling the album “Silver Lining,” after the hook-laden song because that phrase succinctly sums up where he’s been and where he’s headed. “This past year, I hunkered down and wrote an album,” the Chicago native explains. “I wanted to take it back to what I’m really about, which is writing emotionally charged, meaningful songs. It wasn’t like I wanted to find a label and then decide what kind of album to make. I knew what kind of album I wanted to make and knew I could make. It’s going back to the kind of music I’ve always loved. I grew up listening to Cat Stevens, Simon & Garfunkel—folk-based acoustic music. Don’t get me wrong—my experience on the show was great. But for someone like me and the kind of music I make, that only takes you so far. It feels really good to get back to the grass roots of what I’m about. The way I see it, everything that’s happened throughout my career has happened so that I can make this record.” The show DeWyze is referring to is American Idol, which he won in 2010. Ironically, the vast majority of the hordes of fans he made during Season Nine have no idea that this powerful and expressive singer is at his core an uncommonly gifted and distinctive songwriter as well as an accomplished musician.

AMERICAN IDOL SEASON 5 Eligibility Requirements. 1. You must be born on or between June 2, 1992 and September 15, 2006. If you were born before or after this window, you are not eligible to participate on the fifth season of the television program currently entitled American Idol, which is intended to initially air on the ABC television network (the “Program”). 2. You must be a legal U.S. resident and must be authorized to participate in the entire competition portion of the Program and throughout the term of any post-show agreements provided by Producer (as defined below) or any of the other Program Entities (as defined below), including, but not limited to, a recording agreement. This means that you must either: (i) have the unrestricted right to work in the United States; or (ii) possess the appropriate United States employment authorization that permits you to participate and compete in the Program and engage in any post-show agreements and related employment. Prior to the beginning of the competition portion of the Program, each potential contestant must demonstrate, to Producer’s satisfaction, compliance with this requirement in order to accept an invitation to the competition. 3. You are ineligible to participate in the Program if you competed in any previous season of American Idol and placed first in the competition. 4.
