2019 Sidelight Editor...... Valerie Wilson 873-6280 Buffalo, NY 14214 ON THE COVER 837-0551 Holding my interest. By Dave Lechner 1930 Plymouth sedan I had had my eye on this 1931 PA coupe the past ten years. Finally, its Sponsor: third owner and I struck a deal. This local car has always resided in western New Christine Smyczynski York, primarily in storage. It was originally purchased in Buffalo – I live in Clarence, , about fifteen miles east of Buffalo. I also own a 1948 P15 and had many P15s before this one. I’m familiar GET WELL WISHES with the flathead six-cylinder engine, but the uniqueness of the Plymouth flathead Elaine Haid four-cylinder engine has held my interest since I first saw this car a decade ago. Dave’s story first appeared in the Plymouth Owners newsletter in 2017

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE The weather seems to have flipped a switch once and low humidity with about 80 members attending, with “summer” officially arrived on June 20th, as I have been most bringing an old car. We might have to revive our able to get the cars out more. Those of us living in the “hard luck” trophy this year as Lon Wilson had to have his 14094 (Lockport) zip code for the past 2 months have been car towed again, but for the ‘53 Buick this time. I would receiving our Sidelights with a $0.15 cent postage due like to thank Sam & Jean Yanik for opening up their house request on them. I could write a long article on what to host the picnic part of the event and to Jack & Linda transpired between the Lockport Post Office and myself Foster for planning the route to the Clarence Historical but you will just have to ask me. All I will say is that they Society and then a tour to the Yanik’s home. After dessert take the precision of a scale that looked like came from a we had our auction. Members brought their “treasures” to meat market in the 1940’s over the electronic scale at the be auctioned off to the highest bidders and all proceeds front window of the post office? If you do ever receive this went to the club. Dennis Upton kept things lively and notice, please do not pay it and call Lon Wilson as all the moving along as there were close to 100 items to sell. I will be unable to attend this but I am 1st at the home of Sue Yearke. Three of the Board members sure the Haid’s have a terrific tour planned. Your couldn’t make it, with one of them John Haid, for good reservations should have already been in for this and please reason as his wife Elaine broke her hip while at the send in early for the September run hosted by the Upton’s, National AACA Meet in New Jersey. Elaine is back in the with information in this issue. Buffalo area going through rehab and hope to see her out Till next time…. and about soon! Because of this, we had an abbreviated Tim Treasurer’s report. With the rest of the year’s planning pretty much done the meeting was closed in about 30 You should have already signed up for the August boat minutes. ride to Chautauqua The Summer Picnic was held on Sunday July 14th. The weather could not have been more perfect. Total sun

Elaine received many very nice cards, notes and e-mails from our FRIENDS from LER. Elaine expects to come home from the rehab facility around the end of this month. NOT sure if we will be ready for the boat ride or not. Chuck & Mary are helping us with the registrations, etc., which is greatly appreciated at this time. Larry & Laurie Gee - 1 From the Board: We all wish Elaine a speedy recovery! Frank & Marilea Meyers - 2 Editor’s Note: Carol & Bill Fox - 3 I would like to thank the Yaniks & Fosters for planning our picnic and William & Myrna Wolff - 3 tour route. It was a great day. I would also like to thank our members who assisted Robert & Christine Snyder - 4 in the auction. Because we have not done one in a while, we had a large number Edward & Nancy Group - 9 of items to bid on. Thanks go to Chuck (megaphone holder and item runner) and Jim & Christine Smyczynski - 9 Mary Facklam (lot number assigner & item runner); Ed (lot number assigner & Tom & Colleen McCarthy - 11 auctioneer assistant) and Nancy Group (records keeper); Mike Mesi (auctioneer Ron & Mary Moll - 12 assistant); Candice O’Connor (Cashier); Darlene Powers (Cashier); and last but Russ & Jackie Galbo - 14 NOT least our Auctioneer Extrodinar Dennis Upton. With Dennis’s wit it did not George & Ruth Camann - 16 seem like we went through almost 100 lots. (But he just couldn’t seem to sell that monster straw – you had to be there!) Bob & Marilyn Hartinger - 18 The only “glitch” in the day was when the brakes hung up in our ’53 Martin & Mary Korkuc - 18 Buick. As we found out later, it seems that the power assist unit on the master David & Karen Lechner - 20 cylinder was installed wrong! It is amazing that we have gone this long without David & Nancy Hargrave - 23 the brakes hanging up like they did on Sunday. It is the third flatbed treatment in Gregg & Suzanne Zimmerman - 25 the family in the past month or so. Let’s hope the ’52 Studebaker finds a new Fred & Betty Coon - 26 home, while the ’55 Ford and the ’53 Buick are good to go for the rest of the Steven & Maggie Cryan - 26 season! Leslie & Afaf Pickering 27 On another flatbed note, after four years, the Mustang has left the barn (by way of flatbed, for repairs). So, you may see it back on the road someday soon! Valerie
