Electric Supply: The power requirement for the project will be Nil. Project Cost: The total cost of the project including all mandatory facilities is estimated to be INR 50 lakh Soil Quality: The soils of Thane district can be conveniently divides into three categories. Block Soil containing sand, Red soil in the Eastern region mostly on the slopes and Brownish-black soil in the patches of the valleys mostly lying between the coastal plains and the hilly slopes of Sahayadri. The first type of soil, which is found in Dahanu, Palghar, Vasai and Thane tahsil, is fertile and useful for horticulture, Paddy cultivation and vegetables. Whereas, the second type which is found in Mokhada, Talasari and some parts of other tahsils on the Eastern slopes is useful for growing millets like Nagli and Vari. The third type of soil found in Bhiwandi, Kalyan and Shahapur tahsils is useful, particularly for Paddy cultivation. Meteorology: The climate of the district is distinctly different on the coastal plains and on the eastern slopes. Being fully tropical, the coastal strip including Thane, Vasai, Palghar and Dahanu tahsils is very humid and warm. On the other hand, the climate on the eastern slopes and in the plains at the foot of the slopes is comparatively less humid. However, variation in temperature in the eastern region is more than that on the coastal strip. The maximum temperature lies between 28.0°C to 35.2°C and the minimum temperature lies between 16.3°C to 26.5°C. The district gets assured rainfall of 2000 to 4000 mm. from the South-West monsoons during the months June to September. Generally highest rainfall is recorded in the month of July. It is considerably more inland than on the coast. It is also less towards the North than towards the South. Ecology: There are no ecologically sensitive receptors or endangered species within the core and the buffer study area. Since no extra land will be acquired during the M/s Darshana Enterprises P a g e | 4 operation of the project there will be no adverse impact on some of the environmental aspect. In the area of the project proponent clustered green belt is found in the vicinity, hence there will not be any kind of deforestation. No rare or endangered species of flora and fauna are present in the immediate vicinity as well as the study area. Thus, there will not be any adverse impact on flora and fauna. Socio-economic: The project will provide positive impact on the economic development of the region in terms of employment opportunities. The Employment opportunity will be created for skilled and especially unskilled people. Total 9 numbers of workers will be hired for performing proposed activity. 1.2 RISK ASSESSMENT & DISASTER MANAGEMENT PLAN The mining operation in the lease area will be of manual nature. There is no perennial nalla/river or water bodies passing through the vicinity of lease area which can cause inundation or other water born disaster in the area. The area is free from any seismic activity and no such record of seismic activity area available in the area. Apart from this, to prevent workers from dust exposures Dust Mask & PPEs will be provided. The first aid injuries like cuts, bruises are likely to occur as there will be handling of the material and tools; hence the supervisor at the quarry is trained in administration the first aid to the injured. First aid boxes shall be available with the supervisor. 1.3 CONCLUSION The minor mineral project of stone quarrying will not have any adverse impact on the environment. As all the necessary measures has been taken to avoid any kind of pollution. Wind Energy Potential Mapping in Ahmednagar District, Maharashtra, India Kelkar Gautam Assistant Professor Jamkhed Mahavidhayala, Jamkhed, Ahmednagar 413201 (Maharashtra) India. E-mail: [email protected] Abstract: Currently, wind energy is one of the fastest developing renewable energy source technologies across the globe. Wind energy is an alternative clean energy source compared to fossil fuel, which pollute the lower layer of the atmosphere. It has the advantage of being harnessed on a local basis for application in rural and remote areas. In order to tap the potential of wind energy sources, there is a need to assess the availability of the resources spatially. Mapping potential sites for tapping wind energy in Ahmednagar, Maharashtra state is the focus of this study. The study employs the wind energy resources of in Ahmednagar, Maharashtra and analyze their variability considering spatial and seasonal aspects. Considering these, the present status of the potential is assessed and maps of locations suitable for tapping wind energy have been prepared. A spatial data base with data of wind velocities has been developed and used for evaluation of the theoretical potential through continuous monitoring and mapping of the wind resources. The study shows that the average wind velocity in Ahmednagar, Maharashtra varies from 0.5m/s in Parner to 8 m/s in Ahmednagar during the monsoon season. Shrigonda, in Ahmednagar district, has high wind velocity during the period May to September with a peak value of 9 m/s in July. [Kelkar Gautam.
