Bsoul1 Overview paper Khalifa University UDC 28:341 United Arab Emirates THE ISLAMIC EPISTEME OF POLITIES DEVELOPMENT IN INTERNATIONAL AFFAIRS Abstract This paper illustrates the contributions of Islamic law to the development of transnational socio-political organisations that transcend racial and geopolitical fixations. Those are best enshrined in the premise of the unity of believing com- munity and humanity led to the Shari‘ah/Islamic law. Islam advocates the devel- opment and consolidation of communities. This study discusses the concept of ‘ummah’ (community of believers) according to the tradition of Prophet Muham- mad and surveys its development throughout the Islamic caliphates, sultanates, and imamates up until colonialism and modern ‘nation-state’ system. The article argues that there are ontological, epistemological, and normative differences spanning the divide between Muslim and Western worldviews especially con- cerning the development and management of their polities. The first is the origin or theoretical foundation of religion from which the conduct, behaviour, and purpose of existence are related to God and crea- tion. This is known as ‘ilm al-‘aqidah or usul al-din. The second pertains to the system, which defines the conduct of man in accordance with this ‘ilm in terms of social relations, finance and human interaction. -

Some people consider that Islam stands against women’s role in public sectors believing that it has roots in the context of the prophet’s time. This work shows that there is no prohibitation for woman to take parts in the public and social affairs including in the area of political role. It was the case that some women companions of the prophet participated in the political role including Aisyah the wife of Nabi Saw, Asma binti Abu Bakar, Ummu Athiyah, Ummu Hani’ and Rubayyi’ bint Mu’awidz. In this paper, the writer focuses on woman companion hadith transmitters who are directly wrapped up in the missionary work with the prophet. In addition, this paper also shows the relation between woman com- panion transmitter activities and their hadith transmission, under assumption that the role of woman would influence the texts of the transmitted hadiths. It is because, as a text, hadith was transmitted in the certain context and condition. Accordingly, every transmitter had different hadith transmission based on her context, status, profession, and even gender construction. Therefore, this paper discusses the woman companion transmitters who play their role in the field of politics and also their influence in their transmitted hadiths. The HADITH - How it was Collected and Compiled By Dr. Mohammad Shafi Based on Lectures given at the Dar al Islam Teachers’ Institutes SOME DEFINITIONS Al-Qur’an: The book that consists entirely of the words claimed by the Prophet to be the words of God as revealed to him. (When we just say The Prophet, we mean The Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him.) The Qur’an comes to us through multiple independent sources and its entire text is fully and rigorously authenticated. All Muslims, and most orientalists, agree on the text of the Qur’an. The Qur’an is the undisputed primary source of Islamic teachings and Guidance. Hadith: The word Hadith means news, story, communication, conversation, report. In the Islamic religious context, it means an individual report of an action, instruction or saying, of the Prophet, or his approval, disapproval, or silence (tacit approval) regarding some matter or action. By its very nature, the reliability of Hadith reports is dependant on the understanding by the reporter of the context and of the words and their applicability. Regardless of the complexity, however, Hadith is the second primary source of Islamic guidance. Sunnah: is the word used for the normative teachings of the Prophet, as shown by his practice as a Prophet, or his specific instructions and guidance on an issue or a situation. One finds the Sunnah through the study and analysis of the Hadith literature. THE AUTHORITY OF THE HADITH As indicated above, the Hadith is the second primary source of guidance in Islam. It is unanimously agreed by Muslims that the authority of the Hadith is second only to that of the Qur’an.
