Manufacturing of parts and components used in the production of cars is an important part of the economy of the Opolskie Voivodeship. The automotive industry is the most dynamically developing sector in the region. One of the crucial factors in this process is the favourable and business-friendly location of the Opolskie Voivodeship. The proximity of the borders of Germany, Slovakia and the Czech Republic enables automotive companies to effi- ciently contact with cooperators and producers related to the sector. The good economic situation of companies already operating in the region encourages new investors to locate their new plants in our province.

Enterprises operating in this industry manufacture many integral parts needed for the production of cars. Among the entities belonging to this branch of the economy, we can distinguish: Snop Automotive (production of metal structural elements), MM Systemy (production of pressed elements, e.g. shapes, expansion clamps), Neapco Eu- rope (production of drive shafts), IFA Powertrain Polska (manufacturer of propeller shafts), GSS (steering system manufacturer), Coroplast (electrical harness manufacturer); Donaldson and UFI Filters (filtration system manufacturer), Adient (seat manufacturer).

The development of the Opolskie automotive industry is supported by the Fraunhofer Project Centre for Advanced Lightweight Technologies - a scientific and research institution operating at the Opole University of Technology. The main task of the Center operating since 2018 is to work on reducing the weight of materials used in the production of cars.
