Opolskie region is a key region within the chemical industry in Poland. The chemical industry is one of the main industrial potentials of the region, being a component of its so-called smart regional specialisations. A large part of local chemical companies has a decades-long history. Among the operating entities in the region there are both large chemical synthesis companies (ZA Kedzierzyn SA The Group Azoty), base chemicals production plants (Petrochemical Blachownia SA and PCC Synthesis SA), as well as medium and small sized businesses representing a specialised industry (ICSO Chemical production Sp. z o.o. – a specialty chemicals producer, Intersilesia McBride Poland Sp. z o.o. - a leader in the production of household chemicals for retail chains or PPH Chemia-Bomar – car maintenance fluids producer). An important place is occupied by the plastics processing companies such as Nordfolien Poland Sp. z o.o, B + K Sp. z o.o., ZP ChemPack (production of plastic packaging) and Global Colors Poland SA (production of masterbatches and additives). Among the leading producers of technical gases are Air Products and Messer Poland. The largest domestic chemical distribution company is Brenntag Poland based in Kedzierzyn-Koźle.

11 ChemSter Cluster A cluster is a cooperation network that leads to building a lasting competitive advantage not only of the cluster’s participants, but also the entire region in the area of specialised chemistry, inter alia, by effectively raising the level of innovation. The CHEM-STER Specialist Chemistry Cluster was established in August 2013. The group consists of scientific and research institutions, enterprises and business environment units. Fire Brigade Kędzierzyn-Koźle Kędzierzyn-Koźle is primarily a field of industrial chemistry. There are as many as 7 chemical plants qualified for the so-called high risk group and 3 to the increased risk group. The services supervising the security of the city had to specialise in removing the potential consequences of the accident. The Rescue and Firefight- ing Unit No. 1, which includes a specialised group of chemical and ecological rescue, supervises the safety of the city’s inhabitants.
JRG -1 was established in 1992. Currently, in the unit, in a three-shift system, a total of 72 rescuers serve the service. The tasks of a specialised chemical-ecological rescue group include: determining the hazard and designating dangerous zones, evacuation of the victims, endangered people and animals outside the danger
FIRE BRIGADE zone, measurement of concentrations of hazardous substances using measuring instruments, sealing and limiting leakages of hazardous substances, setting or neutralization of dangerous substances, turning on and off installations, devices and utilities affecting the safety of endangered or injured persons, installing water curtains, conducting decontamination of injured persons, rescuers and equipment used in operations.

Since 1952, the Institute has been a proven partner of both domes- tic and foreign contractors in the development, implementation and improvement of chemical technol- ogies, production and sales of industry products.
