Page 1 YASS VALLEY TIMES WEDNESDAY June 30, 2021 New Ownership For The Clubhouse and Royal Hotel short-term, as he attempts to get a feel for the community in Yass, but did hint that there would be significant changes on the horizon. “We’re just testing the water at the moment to see what it’s like here, but we see there’s a lot of untapped potential at both venues,” he said. One of those significant changes will be a stronger focus on food, both the variety of options and the quality. Head Chef Rory Walker believes that will be the key to reviving the Royal and returning it to its former glory. “Obviously food is a big part of it. We want to do something with the Royal and hopefully get that back to the pub that everyone says it used to be.” “We’d like to get the food and maybe a cafe breakfast, and even do some entertainment there, we haven’t quite figured that out yet,” said Rory. While they promised to make both pubs more family-friendly, they also said that having a strong nightlife has been a consistent theme across their other venues, a theme they’d like to see replicated in Yass. Yass is one of the oldest parishes in the diocese. Before the Rev. Robert Cartwright was licenced to the then vast District of Yass in March 1838, the area had been visited by the Rev. John Vincent of Sutton Forrest. Mr Cartwright was first based at Arkstone Forest near Boorowa; by the end of 1838 Queanbeyan and Yass had become separate parishes, the Rev. Charles F. Brigstocke being appointed to Yass where he remained for 20 years. The foundation stone of the present church of St. Clement (designed by Edmund Blacket & later enlarged) was laid in 1847. 01.02.2021 Community Announcements/Latest News Major projects update Local and regional road heavy patching is still underway and should be finalised by the end of the month. Resealing is also underway and should be completed by March. Heavy patching will commence today on TfNSW State roads - Burley Griffin Way and Lachlan Valley Way. Nanima Road rehabilitation works are underway and will continue for the next few months as they move along the 5km stretch. Garry Owen Bridge – the existing timber bridge has been removed and works will continue on site in preparation for the new structure. Wee Jasper Road/Good Hope Road intersection rehabilitation – preliminary works will commence onsite with road works to commence in early February. Construction of Wellington Road Sewerage Pump Station has commenced with establishment of site buildings. Looking ahead, excavation of the pump station is scheduled to commence on Tuesday, 9 February 2021. Pipeline directional drilling along Meehan Street is scheduled to commence on Monday, 1 March 2021. What to do if your water is discoloured Some households in Yass have experienced recent discolouration of water caused by prevailing warm weather and the dislodgement of sediments attached to the pipe wall through increased water flow/usage. The water that is coming out of the water treatment plant is clear and safe. Sporadic incidents are expected along the trunk water main (250 cast iron main from the 1960s) while the hot temperatures prevail. Staff will continue to monitor the situation and flush the system to assist with moving the discoloured water through the pipes. If discoloration occurs, run the tap nearest to the meter for several minutes to clear the water.
