  • Senate Confirms Callista Gingrich As U.S. Ambassador to the Holy See
Senate confirms Callista Gingrich as U.S. ambassador to the Holy See WASHINGTON —The Senate confirmed Callista Gingrich as the new U.S. ambassador to the Holy See. Voting late Oct. 16, senators approved her nomination 70-23. More than 20 Democrats joined Republicans in supporting Gingrich, the wife of former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, a vocal ally of President Donald Trump. Gingrich, 51, a lifelong Catholic and a former congressional aide, has been president of Gingrich Productions, a multimedia production and consulting company in Arlington, Virginia, since 2007. She was expected to present her credentials at the Vatican in the coming weeks. Gingrich’s associates welcomed the vote. Among them was Msgr. Walter R. Rossi, rector of the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, where Gingrich has been a longtime member of the choir. “Callista has been part of our shrine family for two decades and so, as any family rejoices when good news arrives, we rejoice with Callista,” Msgr. Rossi said in an Oct. 17 statement. “Both Callista and Speaker Gingrich are wonderful supporters of our ministry here at Mary’s shrine, most especially our music program. “More importantly, Callista has a great love for the church and our country,” he added. “Her faith is an integral part of her life and I am confident that her faith will be her solid foundation as she enters a new service to church and nation.” The Bethlehem University Foundation wished Gingrich “great success in her new role.” The Gingrichs have been foundation patrons, serving as advisers to its executive director and donors.

  • Military Transformation on the Korean Peninsula: Technology Versus Geography
THE UNIVERSITY OF HULL Military Transformation on the Korean Peninsula: Technology Versus Geography Being a Thesis submitted in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy At the University of Hull By Soon Ho Lee BA, Sungkyunkwan University, Republic of Korea, 2004 MA, The University of Birmingham, United Kingdom, 2005 MRes, King’s College London, United Kingdom, 2006 1 Acknowledgement I am the most grateful to my Supervisor Dr. David Lonsdale for his valuable academic advice and support during the long PhD journey. To reach this stage, I have had invaluable support from my family back in Korea and my dear wife Jin Heon. I would also like to thank my family for being so patient while I was researching. During this journey, I have obtained a precious jewel in my daughter, Da Hyeon. I will pray for you all my life. I would like to give special thanks to my late grandfather who gave me the greatest love, and taught me the importance of family. 2 Thesis Summary This thesis provides an explanation of one RMA issue: the effectiveness of contemporary military technology against tough geography, based upon case studies in the Korean peninsula. The originality of the thesis is that it will provide a sound insight for potential foes’ approach to the dominant US military power (superior technology and sustenance of war). The North Korean defence strategy – using their edge in geography and skill – tried to protect themselves from the dominant US power, but it may be impossible to deter or defeat them with technological superiority alone.

It was used alongside the panokseon warships in the fight against invading Japanese naval ships. The ship's name derives from its protective shell-like covering.[1] One of a number of pre-industrial armoured ships developed in Europe and in East Asia, this design has been described by some as the first armored ship in the world.[2] https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turtle_ship 1/14 2/28/2021 Turtle ship - Wikipedia A scaled-down turtle ship replica at the War Memorial of Korea in Seoul. 44 Lee Beyond Yi Sun-Shin and the Ming 45 the weak Korean Army. 2 Another major perspective, which is often found in Korean historical records, is that the Ming army played a major role in defeating the Japanese, because the Ming had more advanced weapons, especially large firearms. The best example can be found from the record of the Korean King Sonjo, who rnled Korea during the entire war period. After the war, while discussing the distribution of awards of the Korean generals, the king said, "This war was mostly led by the Ming mmy. Our troops KYEONG-BOK LEE were just following after the Ming army, and we won the battle by a fluke. In our own strength, we could not solely kill or capture one single Japanese soldier and their base." 3 Internationally, American On April 13th, 1592, about 20,000 Japanese soldiers came historian, Kenneth M. • The Wheel Model of STEAM Education Based on Traditional
Eurasia Journal of Mathematics, Science & Technology Education, 2016, 12(9), 2353-2371 doi: 10.12973/eurasia.2016.1263a The Wheel Model of STEAM Education Based on OPEN Traditional Korean Scientific ACCESS Contents Pyoung Won Kim Incheon National University, REPUBLIC OF KOREA Received 17 November 2015Revised 25 January 2016 Accepted 24 February 2016 The Korean STEAM education pursues a convergent human resources education, but there are shortcomings associated with it due to the fact that it excludes the Humanities in its curriculum. This study embodies the accomplishments from the design and field application of the STEAM education model that has added Humanities fields (history, geography, and bibliography) to the five areas of STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics). The core principle of STEAM education is to utilize the traditional sciences as a medium that connects STEAM and the Humanities. It is designed to incorporate the eight core subjects as discipline studies of eight subjects and be implemented through the wheel model, developing into a multidisciplinary system. The STEAM education model was applied at two high schools over a two-year period as pilot programs. Both cases have undergone verification by the academia and have been reported in the news by the Korean Broadcasting System (KBS). Keywords: discipline study, multidisciplinary study, STEAM education, traditional Korean science, wheel model INTRODUCTION Recently, because converged academics that span across different fields of studies have become the driving force of the creation of cutting edge knowledge, learning the detailed procedures of convergent knowledge has had great significance educationally (Jacobs & Borland, 1986; Lee, 2003). The reason why a lot of educators underscore experiences by students and emphasize project methods that expand the breadth of curriculums to everyday life, such as field learning, lab exploration, interdisciplinary activities, etc., is not unrelated to this (Dewey, 1916; Kilpatrick, 1922).
