With Lisbon, Portugal, as the scenery, we welcomed once again a successful edition of the International Conference on e-Society 2013 (during 13 to 16 March, 2013).

Once again, the e-Society 2013 conference tried to address the main areas of concern within the Information Society context. This conference sought to cover both the technical as well as the non-technical aspects of the Information Society. Its broad areas of interest were eSociety and Digital Divide, eBusiness / eCommerce, eLearning, New Media and E-Society, Digital Services in eSociety, eGovernment /eGovernance, eHealth, Information Systems and Information Management.

This edition had 215 submissions from more than 34 countries. Each submission had been blindly reviewed by an average of four independent reviewers, to ensure the final high standard of the accepted submissions. Consequently, 40 received blind referee ratings that signified acceptability for publication as full papers that meant an acceptance rate of 19%, while some others were published as short papers, reflection papers, posters and doctoral papers.

Regarding the papers’ presentations, the conference program was divided into 20 parallel papers sessions that included the presentation of full papers, reflection papers, short papers, posters and a doctoral consortium. Besides the papers presentations this event also included one keynote presentation from Professor Maarten de Laat, LOOK, Open Universiteit Nederland, The Netherlands and a special talk given by Angela Garabagiu, Secretary to the Committee on Culture, Science, Education and Media, Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Strasbourg, France.

Overall the Conference offered an opportunity to all their participants to discuss with success the most significant aspects regarding the theme Information Systems.
