ormer Southern Miss standout golfer Ofelia FLopez is in her second season as a graduate assistant coach with the women’s golf team, joining her former Head Coach Julie Gallup. While at Southern Miss, Lopez was an all-con- ference player and a four-year letterwinner. She was also the team captain for two years, from 2002- 2004. Her accomplishments and hard work as a Lady Eagle did not go unnoticed, as she earned inclusion to the Southern Miss Women’s Golf All-30 Team in conjunction with the Women’s Athletics 30-year cel- ebration at Southern Miss. Following her graduation in 2004, she began her professional career at the Resort Course at La Cantera in San Antonio, Texas, where she was an Assistant Golf Professional and later promoted to Tournament Coordinator. While working for La Cantera, she received the Associate of the Quarter Award and began the PGA program to be certified as a Class “A” golf Professional. After some time away from competitive golf, Lopez won the San Antonio City Women’s Amateur Championship in June of 2004. She also was a run- ner up to be on the Big Break III the Ladies only Challenge. A 2004 graduate from Southern Miss with a bachelor’s degree in coaching and sport administra- tion, Lopez is currently pursuing a master’s degree in sport management. She is the daughter of Benito and Hilda Lopez.
