Newsletter Newsletter Newsletter YOUnG YOUnGISSUE #2 Limited EDITION DNe W SNSLeTTeR DNe W SLNSeTTeR YOUNG DONS AT THE HEART OF MK OF HEART THE AT DONS YOUNG POSTER INSIDE WE ARE MK SUPER MK dONs Hello to all our young supporters. I hope you had a fantastic Christmas and I would like to wish each of you a Happy New Year! Footballers don’t get much time off over Christmas - and we certainly don’t get to enjoy Christmas dinner like I’m sure you do - but it was all worth it in the end as we picked up some important results and improved our position in the league table. Under Russell Martin’s management, we have changed our style of play. It’s one that we hope will excite and entertain our supporters on a Matchday, and we also believe it’s one that suits us as players. We’ve recently picked up some very good results here at home. Oxford United, Portsmouth and Bristol Rovers all came to Stadium MK in good form and near the top of the table, so to come away from those three matches with three wins to our name was fantastic! Confidence is certainly high but it’s important that we remain focused and continue to work hard in training, in order to maintain our form and continue to climb the League One table. There are still lots of improvements that we can make and with the coaches, we will be doing all that we can to get better and better each week. Your support, as ever, will be hugely important as we look to continue the good form. You have backed us in good numbers and good voice away from home but, particularly here at Stadium MK, you have been so supportive. We hope to continue rewarding you on the pitch with positive performances and results. Come on you Dons! Baily Cargill. QUIZ 1) Which Premier League team did our Manager, Russell Martin, play for earlier in his career? 2) What is the name of our Chairman? 3) Which farmyard animal are mascots Donny and Mooie? 4) Who plays in shirt number 24? 5) How many seasons has Alex Gilbey played for the club? 6) Which company make our kit? 7) Who came through our academy, played for our first team and now plays for Sheffield United in the Premier League? 8) What colour is our the chalice on our badge? 9) Which Premier League team did we beat 4-0 at Stadium MK in 2014? 10) Which pizza company recently opened a kiosk in Stadium MK? YOUNG DONS ZONE UPDATE Happy New Year from all at the MK Dons SET! I have had great fun with the activities we have had on offer so far this season, including the Armed Forces Fanzone and the Christmas Party. We have some exciting events coming up in the New Year including another Family Fun Day on the 21st March and a drawing competition with prizes. If you have any more suggestions, please feel free to pop them into the suggestion box outside the Young Dons Zone and we will try to add whatever we can to make this area full of things you, as Young Dons, would like to do. A big well done to everyone that’s been collecting badges and has reached 10. Please continue to collect the badges for the chance to win more prizes in the coming months. Don’t forget, you can meet Donny and Mooie and first team players in the Young Dons Zone every game! So, let’s get behind our team and keep the excitement going for all Young Dons and have more fun in 2020 than ever before. COYD! FACE UP Can you GUESS the FIVE MK Dons players in each section Q&A What do you do on a typical day at work? IAN LANNING First things first, I come in and put the kettle on. I can’t start the day Kit Manager without a cup of tea or coffee! Then I check all the kit that was prepared the day before. We have a daily staff meeting where we go through the plans for the day, whose training where and any injury updates. Then I go on to prepare the kit for training and lay it all out in the dressing room for the players, similarly to how I would on a matchday. I tend to arrive at the training location earlier than the team and staff just to make sure everything is ready for them to crack straight on when they get there. I usually oversee training to make sure everything goes well, from a kit and equipment perspective. After training I put everything back into its containers, any dirty laundry goes straight to wash. In the afternoon my job is more varied. If it’s towards the end of the week I prep for the next game including making sure shirts are all printed. At the beginning of the week I help the laundry ladies catch up with any excess from the previous game, make sure orders are placed and catch up with any paperwork that I have to do. Then I start to prepare for training the next day and do it all again! How did you become a kit man? When I was at school doing my A levels, I was coaching in the community with Bath City FC. An opportunity came up to be the 1st team Kit Manager at Cardiff City, back when they were in league two. I took the chance to step into professional football. I went into the role not really knowing what the role was or what I’d be doing on a day to day basis, but I loved football and I learnt on the job. Saying that, I’m still learning on the job now. Everywhere we go I look out for new tips and ideas that may suit us. How long have you worked for MK Dons? I have worked for MK Dons for 3 years. It’s flown by! Where else have you worked in the past? I worked for Cardiff City for 16 and a half years and was with the club from league 2 all the way into the Premier League. I have seen almost every team play and have visited 90 stadiums. I also worked at a few International Wales U17 and U19 camps. What is your favourite thing about your job? That every day is different, you never come into work knowing what the day will hold. I also love the people I work with, and I’m mad about football so being around it every day is great. What is your favourite football stadium (other than ours) that you have visited? Hmm.. Probably Wembley, from working at an FA Cup Final and League Cup Final with Cardiff, the facilities they have are amazing. For atmosphere it has to be Goodison Park, I grew up supporting Everton. Do you think you could beat Donny and Mooie in the mascot race? I think I could, if there was lots of food at the finishing line! The EFL regularly communicates with supporters on various subjects but this is the first time since 2010 that it has carried out such a detailed and comprehensive survey. The response has been fantastic and close to 30,000 supporters took the time to fill in the online survey. I would like to thank everyone who responded as their input will prove invaluable to Clubs and the EFL as we look to capture the thoughts and feelings of supporters across a broad range of subjects. This year we asked a range of questions that reflect the football landscape in 2019, which touched on aspects of life outside of the traditional matchday experience. We also sought views on fans’ feelings regarding their club, their routine when travelling to a game, their attitude to inclusion, live streaming, broadcasting and a whole host of other topics. In sharing their views across such a broad range of football-related topics, supporters have given us the insight that will help us shape future policy and ensure that the League continues to meet the needs of fans. Thank you again to all those who took the time to take part.
