The worst of years. Having seen 2020 plans – and the record-breaking success of 2019 – crushed in a matter of days as the pandemic struck in March, Lancashire Cricket has had the best of years and the worst of years in 24 months. This session will explore the scenario planning undertaken by the club’s management to not only save its future but to also deliver on its promises to host cricket – and to build a platform for its recovery. The club co-hosted – in a bio-secure environment – the only international sports fixture held during the peak of the pandemic with 21 days of international cricket featuring the West Indies and Australia. Since then it has focused on the county game, its community outreach, lobbied hard for the return of conference and banqueting to Emirates Old Trafford, and strengthened – most recently – its commitment to a strategic ‘cricket+business’ partnership with India. • Daniel Gidney, Chief Executive, Lancs Cricket • Steve Davies, Operations Director, Lancs Cricket 4 THE STADIUM BUSINESS PROGRAMME Tuesday 1st December 09:30 GMT 01:30 Los Angeles / 04:30 New York / 10:30 Paris / 15:00 Mumbai / 20:30 Sydney THE TOUGHEST OF STARTS Tottenham Hotspur Stadium: The Promise & The Performance Tottenham Hotspur FC’s new home has been heralded as a “game changer” for our sector. After construction delays which pushed back the official opening date of September 2018, the completed building hosted its first competitive football fixture in April 2019 – opening to widespread acclaim for its focus on the fan experience. Its first full season of operation should have been the current one but COVID-19 saw an ‘early bath’ for that. However, even without a full season of football and NFL fixtures (nor the planned concerts, boxing matches and other major entertainment events), the stadium has already proven its commercial acumen – boasting the best performing matchday operations of any stadium in Europe. Perhaps even the world? And, it should be noted, the stadium is only one element of the wider area regeneration and ‘destination development’ which will take in housing, retail, hotels and much more. Taking us through some of the highlights of this stadium’s performance to date – and what a full season could look like – we welcome back: Robert Ebdon • Andy O’Sullivan, Venue Director, Tottenham Hotspur FC Assistant Secretary (Estates & Ground), Lord’s 10:00 GMT 02:00 Los Angeles / 05:00 New York / 11:00 Paris / 15:30 Mumbai / 21:00 Sydney BUILDING IN A PANDEMIC Building Through Tempest, Storm and Wind…. and Covid-19 The building of the new £52m Compton & Edrich Stands commenced on site at Lord’s in September 2019 after a sublime summer of cricket which saw England crowned World Cup Winners. The new stands are on target for completion by 30th April, 2021 but it won’t have been without plenty of challenges. Building through the wettest winter for a decade was followed by strong winds in February when the steel frame was being erected. A large Victorian sewer also caused a headache… And then there was a pandemic! Our guest speaker explains the challenges, how they were overcome and what there is to look forward to at Lord’s in 2021. • Robert Ebdon, Assistant Secretary (Estates & Ground Development), Lord’s 10:30 GMT 02:30 LA / 05:30 NYC / 11:30 Paris / 16:00 Mumbai / 21:30 Sydney What’s new in the market?NEW IDEAS.
