The Wonder Years Episode & Music Guide
The Wonder Years Episode & Music Guide “What would you do if I sang out of tune … would you stand up and walk out on me?" 6 seasons, 115 episodes and hundreds of great songs – this is “The Wonder Years”. This Episode & Music Guide offers a comprehensive overview of all the episodes and all the songs played during the show. The episode guide is based on the first complete TWY episode guide which was originally posted in the newsgroup rec.arts.tv in 1993. It was compiled by Kirk Golding with contributions by Kit Kimes. It was in turn based on the first TWY episode guide ever put together by Jerry Boyajian and posted in the newsgroup rec.arts.tv in September 1991. Both are used with permission. The music guide is the work of many people. Shane Hill and Dawayne Melancon corrected and inserted several songs. Kyle Gittins revised the list; Matt Wilson and Arno Hautala provided several corrections. It is close to complete but there are still a few blank spots. Used with permission. Activism, Affect and the Archives of HIV/AIDS a Dissert
UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA Los Angeles ‘Your Nostalgia is Killing Me’: Activism, Affect and the Archives of HIV/AIDS A dissertation submitted in partial satisfaction of the requirements for the degree Doctor of Philosophy in Information Studies by Marika Louise Cifor 2017 © Copyright by Marika Louise Cifor 2017 ABSTRACT OF THE DISSERTATION ‘Your Nostalgia is Killing Me’: Activism, Affect, and the Archives of HIV/AIDS by Marika Louise Cifor Doctor of Philosophy in Information Studies University of California, Los Angeles, 2017 Professor Michelle L. Caswell, Chair Nostalgia has long been dismissed and derided by scholars and popular commentators as a pointless and self-indulgent wallowing in the past that stands in the way of social change in the present and for the future. In this archival ethnography, I examine the critical potential of nostalgia as recorded and produced by archives documenting 1980s and 1990s HIV/AIDS activism in the United States. I argue that critical nostalgia, an ethical mode of critique grounded in the bittersweet longing for a past time or space, is a productive lens at every moment of collaboration between HIV/AIDS archives and the AIDS activist communities they document and serve. I present case studies using materials culled from the New York Public Library’s Manuscripts and Archives Division, New York University’s Fales Library and Special Collections, and Visual AIDS, a community-based arts organization committed to raising AIDS awareness through visual art, assisting artists living with HIV/AIDS, and preserving artists’ legacies. Using these case studies, I show that critical nostalgia shapes the ways in which we ii record and remember in, with, and through archives. -
UNIVERSITY of CALIFORNIA Los Angeles
UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA Los Angeles Neoliberalism, Citizenship, and the Spectacle of Democracy in American Film and Television, 1973-2016 A dissertation submitted in partial satisfaction of the requirements for the degree Doctor of Philosophy in Film and Television by Alice Elizabeth Royer 2018 © Copyright by Alice Elizabeth Royer 2018 ABSTRACT OF THE DISSERTATION Neoliberalism, Citizenship, and the Spectacle of Democracy in American Film and Television, 1973-2016 by Alice Elizabeth Royer Doctor of Philosophy in Film and Television University of California, Los Angeles, 2018 Professor William McDonald, Co-Chair Professor Johanna R Drucker, Co-Chair This dissertation examines American films, miniseries, and television shows that center on the democratic process, mobilizing it in the service of stories that both provide intense narrative and visual pleasures, and offer satisfaction in the form of apparent knowledge gained about the inner workings of electoral politics in the United States; these media texts are here theorized as “democracy porn.” Significantly, democracy porn emerges alongside neoliberalism, and its proliferation mirrors that ideology’s meteoric rise to prominence. As such, the dissertation considers texts made since the advent of neoliberalism in 1973, and up to the US presidential election of 2016, which marks a major shift in the meanings and values associated with democracy porn. Through historical, textual, and discourse analysis drawing on critical theories of affect, citizenship, and neoliberalism, the dissertation interrogates the complex ways in which democracy porn is constructed and functions within and surrounding moving image ii texts. The project thus tracks the ways neoliberal ideology manifests in the media texts in question, as well as how the consumption of these texts impacts viewers’ understandings of their own citizenship within a democracy increasingly steered by neoliberal principles. -

It started as a way to take my video store background, and create a SHAREABLE list of those go-to films that I recommend/would be happy to watch again (and again). now it’s well over one hundred. And I just thought of another a minute ago. They cover pretty much all genres. And hopefully vintages. Though it takes a while for something to become a classic. The categorizing symbols are something that I ‘borrowed’ from Neil French, and his: ‘cut! 100 greatest movie scenes’. But was granted permission. Thanks Neil. Though the icons are just rough guides. My opinions really. as Some of these films are too hard to pigeonhole. But they’re definitely worth watching. More than once. Enjoy. The SYMBOLS Emotion, Romance Humor, comedy SPORTS Shock, horror, ACTION, oddities Tension, suspense Music, choreography dialogue Great Acting/actors Great direction/director Great cinematography A beautiful Mind 2001 DIRECTOR: RON HOWARD NOTES: Fascinating story.
