Bahamas Assists Central Abaco News US in Wrecking a Smuggling Ring The Royal Bahamas Police Force assisted United States authorities in smashing a multi-million-dollar ma- jor organization involved in smug- gling Chinese nationals from main- land China into the United States. Seven persons have been charged with smuggling Chinese aliens into the United States. Twelve of the aliens were said to have entered the U.S. through The Bahamas. The de- fendants are alleged to have paid more than $219,000 in “smuggling fees” to take the Chinese nationals into the U.S. Mr. Guy A. Lewis, United States Attorney, said, “It was critical that we had the support as well as the co-operation of the Royal Bahamas Police Force,” Mr. Lewis said. “We are very thankful we had that. It made a difference in this case.” The indictment alleges that the defendants conspired to smuggle three different groups of Chinese nationals into the U.S. over a pe- riod of about eight months. Bahamas Telecommunications Corporation is installing a series of free standing antenna towers through the Northern Bahamas. Abaco will be having four of these towers. A company specializing in erecting towers is doing the work. Shown above is the new tower beside Batelco in Marsh Harbour. P My Fellow Abaconians, P R R My campaign is not about running my O opponent down, or about what happened O in 1968 , or 1987, or 1992. The past is the G past, and there is no changing that. As G R Abaconians we must look ahead with a R common vision of building our island for E future generations to come. E S I believe there are issues facing our youth, S promises made which have not been kept, S and areas of our economic engine such as S tourism, fishing, and farming which must I be seriously addressed if we are to bring I V Abaco into the 21st Century. V Empowering Abaco to become an economic generator in a tourist E based economy must begin at our airport. It is a disgrace what we and E our visitors have to endure when traveling into and out of our existing airport facility. This was promised to be upgraded for over nine years L now. This will be one of my first priorities under a new Progressive L I Liberal Party Government. I Further, I will make every effort to form a team of community and B business leaders from all political backgrounds to discuss and develop B views and ideas on the preservation of our fishing grounds (conch E and fish), and other important issues affecting the daily lives of our E R citizens. R Like you, I could not agree more that Abaco has long been neglected A in getting it’s share of the economic pie. I will make my best effort to A L change this. Robert Sweeting, our current Member of Parliament is a L hardworking and honest individual, of whom I have great respect. However, I believe I am the candidate who would better serve Abaco’s interests when the Progressive Liberal Party win’s the government on P May 2nd. P A I will be asking for your support, pledging my effort to work for you, A and be a voice for you, and be available to you, as your next R representative for the South Abaco Constituency. R T Respectfully yours, T Y Edison M. Key Y

5 Year Plan BETTER NOW We& BETTER Will: TO COME... Work with the leaders of the Mud and Pigeon Pea communities and assist those with Bahamian status to be integrated into other communities. Work with our fisherman to form a Fisherman’s Association to help preserve our marine resources for future generations. Work to enforce “no take” zones for grouper during spawning season. Continue to work with local government so they can better serve their communities. Work with Marsh Harbour sporting associations to develop the 10- acres leased and build a major sporting complex in Central Abaco. The FNM has just recently completed a very modern sub-division in Central Abaco to accommodate first-time property owners.
