Psalm 112:1-9 Beatus vir A Reading from the Then the apostles and the elders, with the consent of the whole church, decided to choose men from among their members and to send them to Antioch with Paul and . They sent Judas called Barsabbas, and Silas, leaders among the brothers, with the following letter: “The brothers, both the apostles and the elders, to the believers of origin in Antioch and Syria and Cilicia, greetings. Since we have heard that certain persons who have gone out from us, though with no instructions from us, have said things to disturb you and have unsettled your minds, we have decided unanimously to choose representatives and send them to you, along with our beloved Barnabas and Paul, who have risked their lives for the sake of our Lord Jesus Christ. So they were sent off and went down to Antioch. When they gathered the congregation together, they delivered the letter. When its members read it, they rejoiced at the exhortation. Judas and Silas, who were themselves prophets, said much to encourage and strengthen the believers. After they had been there for some time, they were sent off in peace by the believers to those who had sent them. Paul went on also to and to , where there was a named Timothy, the son of a Jewish woman who was a believer; but his father was a Greek. He was well spoken of by the believers in Lystra and Iconium. Paul wanted Timothy to accompany him; and he took him and had him circumcised because of the who were in those places, for they all knew that his father was a Greek. As they went from town to town, they delivered to them for observance the decisions that had been reached by the apostles and elders who were in Jerusalem. “Very truly, I tell you, anyone who does not enter the sheepfold by the gate but climbs in by another way is a thief and a bandit. The one who enters by the gate is the shepherd of the sheep. The gatekeeper opens the gate for him, and the sheep hear his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. When he has brought out all his own, he goes ahead of them, and the sheep follow him because they know his voice. They will not follow a stranger, but they will run from him because they do not know the voice of strangers.” Jesus used this figure of speech with them, but they did not understand what he was saying to them. So again Jesus said to them, “Very truly, I tell you, I am the gate for the sheep. All who came before me are thieves and bandits; but the sheep did not listen to them. I am the gate. Whoever enters by me will be saved, and will come in and go out and find pasture. The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. Good Shepherd, On this Feast of Timothy, Titus and Silas, Don’t let us settle for anything less than abundant life. Don’t let us be content to wander around aimlessly—missing the feast. Show us the gate. Show us you. I came that they might have life, And have it abundantly. Good Shepherd, We know your voice. We know that we should follow where you lead. But we are scared. To be honest it is simply easier to follow frauds and their empty promises. So show us the gate. Show us you. Invite us to come into the place where we will find true nourishment. But if your voice isn’t enough to get us through the gate, Then drag us kicking and screaming. Whatever you need to do to get us there, just do it! I came that they might have life, And have it abundantly. Good Shepherd, Lead the , Priests and Deacons of this diocese through the gate each and every day. May their lives make you known, and may they nourish your people with riches of Christ’s grace. Protect your church from leaders who are more interested in their own interests rather than those of Christ. I came that they might have life, And have it abundantly. Good Shepherd, Remember the leaders of our nation and all the nations. Make them Good Shepherds of the people they are called to serve. Breakdown the walls that divide them and lead them to work together to serve the common good. I came that they might have life, And have it abundantly. After a period of silent reflection the Presider and People say together Most merciful God, We confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us; that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen.

The Communion of the People

All are welcome at the Lord’s Table. Come, because it is the Lord who invites you. Come, and be drawn into relationship with God and one another. Come, and take your place among generations of Christians who have shared this Holy Meal. The bread will be placed in your palm. You may consume the bread then drink from the chalice, or you may dip the bread in the wine. Gluten free wafers are available upon request. If you do not wish to receive communion, you may simply remain in your seat or come forward, cross your arms over your chest, and receive a blessing.
