SHELDON SILVER HON. PETER M. RIVERA ASSEMBLY SPEAKER CHAIRMAN HON. VITO J. LOPEZ Dear Friends, Co-Chairman MEMBERS: A few statistics speak volumes to the growing influence of Hispanics in our society: approximately Hon. Carmen E. Farrell, Jr. internships are great opportunities that can help build leadership and workforce skills absent Hon. Sandra Galef Hon. Michael Gianaris from a formal college education. Hon. Diane Gordon In New York and elsewhere, Hispanics are dramatically underrepresented in policy making Hon. Richard N. Gottfried Hon. Roger L. Green positions in government and the corporate sectors. Although the proportion is growing rapidly, Hon. Aurelia Greene only 22% of Hispanics have the opportunity to attend colleges and universities and represent Hon. Aileen Gunther 10% of total enrollment. These are problems that negatively impact the economic stability of Hon. Carl Heastie our communities. As the majority population ages out of the labor force, Hispanics should have Hon. Sam Hoyt an opportunity to move into these positions, as long as we continue to prepare ourselves for Hon. Rhoda S. Jacobs Hon. Ivan C. Lafayette such opportunities. Hispanic elected officials recognize these trends and are preparing to Hon. John W. Lavelle aggressively address this critically important issue. Hon. Joseph R. Lentol Hon. Margaret Markey The pages that follow are filled with important content that represents sources of funding for Hon. Nettie Mayersohn college and post-graduate education. In addition, important resources for internships and Hon. Brian M. McLaughlin fellowships are provided for those interested in a career in public service, whether it be work in Hon.
