Blank Map of Europe Before Ww1 Blank map of europe before ww1 Continue The empty map of Europe to Ww1 Ww2 Blank MapEurope is a continent located extremely in the Northern Hemisphere and mainly in the Eastern Hemisphere. It borders the Arctic Ocean in the north, the Atlantic Ocean to the west, Asia to the east and the Mediterranean Sea to the south. It occupies the western share of Eurasia.Europe is most often considered to be separated from Asia by watersheds of the Ural and Caucasus mountains, the Ural, Caspian and Black Seas and the waterways of the Turkish Strait. Although the term continent implies visceral geography, the land is close to somewhat arbitrary and has been revised somewhat mature previously by its first concept in classical antiquity. The discontent of Eurasia with the two continents reflects the cultural, linguistic and ethnic differences between East and West, which will be reworked on the spectrum rather than the subsequently brilliant dividing line. Geographical link between Europe and Asia does not follow any entitiring borders: Turkey, Russia, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Kazakhstan are transcontinental countries. France, Portugal, the Netherlands, Spain and the United Kingdom are then transcontinental in that basic allowance in Europe while the pockets of their territory are located on new continents. Europe is not quite 10,180,000 square kilometers (3,930,000 sq m), or 2% of the Earth's surface (6.8% of the house area). Politically, Europe is at odds with some 50 sovereign states, of which the Russian Federation is the largest and most populous, covering 39% of the continent and comprising 15% of its population. As of 2016, the population of Europe was almost 741 million people (about 11% of the world's population). The European climate is highly dependent on hot Atlantic currents that temper winters and summers across much of the continent, even at latitudes along which the climate in Asia and North America is harsh. new from the sea, seasonal differences are more noticeable than close to the coast. Europe, in particular Ancient Greece and Ancient Rome, was the birthplace of Western civilization. The fall of the Western Roman Empire in 476 AD and the subsequent migration era marked the halt of ancient records and the beginning of the central epoch. The renaissance of humanism, intelligence, art and science led to an open-minded era. before the discovery era started by Portugal and Spain, Europe played a leading role in global affairs. Between the 16th and 20th centuries, European powers, controlled in various ageing America, occur throughout Africa and Oceania and most of Asia. The Age of Enlightenment, subsequent French riots and Napoleonic wars shaped the continent culturally, politically and economically from the late 17th century to the first half of the 19th century. The Industrial Revolution That Began in Good Britain at the End The 18th century gave rise to the avant-garde economic, cultural and social violin in Western Europe and, ultimately, the world as a whole. Both world wars took place for most of Europe, contributing to the growth of Western European dominance in world affairs by the mid-20th century, as Soviet ties and related states took a prominent place. During the Cold War, Europe was alienated along the Iron Curtain in the middle of NATO in the West and Warsaw Harmony in the East, before the revolutions of 1989 and the fall of Berlin Wall.In 1949, the Council of Europe was founded, as soon as Sir Winston Churchill's speech, in the manner of the idea of uniting Europe to achieve common goals. It includes all European states except Belarus, Kazakhstan and the Vatican. The new European integration of some states has led to the formation of the European Stick to Each Other (EU), a severed embassy that lies between the confederation and the federation. The EU originated in Western Europe, but expanded eastward earlier to the fall of Soviet retention in 1991. The currency of most European Union countries, the euro, is the most commonly used in the course of Europeans; and the EU Schengen area abolishes attache and immigration controls, along with most of its member states. What is different is that there are also a number of Empires on the map. These empires seem to encroach on existing countries. A few examples: the Austro-Hungarian Empire at this stage swallowed Croatia, Slovakia and Republic. The German Empire was pushed into part by what is considered modern Denmark and also controls much of Poland. The Russian Empire controls all of Finland, Poland, Ukraine, Belarus, Lithuania, Moldova, Georgia, Latvia and Estonia. The Otton Empire by this stage was pushed back to Turkey and is actually an ally of the German Empire in World War I.The other thing we can say that stands out on this map that you will not find on the modern map is that the Republic of Ireland is now part of the United Kingdom. But Europe is also a common cultural heritage. And it is a culture in the making. The creation of the European Union would not have been possible without this common heritage and the endeavour to have a common future. Paradoxically, Europe’s specificity, its common heritage, is threatened by one of its major exponents, the ideology of modernity and modernisation. So a very important task Europe is confronted with is to be at the same time both modernising and preserving its specificity and variety. This task is the more arduous because we have, in order to fulfil it adequately, to shrug off outdated interpretations of modernity and modernisation, and to look at tensions and conflicts which are inherent to ongoing modernisation, like the increasing opposition between individual freedom and system-rationality. In front of ongoing modernisation and the supremacy of the ideology of modernisation or globalisation, it certainly will not be a revival of nationalism that will lead us to the Promised Land.

In the interwar period many ideas were floating around on how to shape European unity. These interwar Blueprints for Europe have to be understood in the context of conflicting and contradictory emotions of enmity and amity. This article looks at the emotive vocabulary of the canonical text of Coudenhove-Kalergi’s Pan-Europa. It applies an emotion discourse analysis, using Koselleck’s notion of “space of experience” and “horizon of expectation”. As such it shows the connection between the understanding and use of time and emotions in discourse—thereby demonstrating the necessity of “reading” the blueprints of European integration as highly normative and moral claims on the design of this European order. Keywords discourse; Coudenhove-Kalergi; European integration; emotion; interwar; pan-Europa Issue This article is part of the issue “Interdisciplinary Approaches to Studying Emotions within Politics and International Rela- tions”, edited by Alex Prior (University of Leeds, UK) and Yuri van Hoef (Utrecht University, The Netherlands). © 2018 by the author; licensee Cogitatio (Lisbon, Portugal). • European Economy in Chaos Intensified by Debt Crisis (PDF
Section 2 European economy in chaos intensified by debt crisis The European economy had been recovering modestly from a slump triggered by the global economic crisis in 2008, but business sentiment plunged reflecting the emergence of the European debt crisis and demand declined mainly due to tight fiscal policy of the governments of many countries to achieve fiscal soundness, resulting in an evident slowdown in the economy. In contrast, in Germany the economy has been relatively steady compared with other major countries; for example, there have been signs of recovery in some economic indicators. In this section, the current status of the European economy, which has recently been polarized as pointed out above, will be reviewed and its background will be examined. In addition, the intensification of chaotic trends in the European debt crisis and future challenges that the European economy is going to confront will be organized. 1. Overview (The European economy facing a business downturn) First, recent economic trends will be studied with a focus on major euro area economies hit by the European debt crisis. (1) GDP The seasonally adjusted real GDP growth rate in the 4th quarter of 2011 in the euro area recorded −0.3% quarter-on-quarter, falling to the first negative quarter-on-quarter growth in ten quarters since the 2nd quarter of 2009. By category of demand, each item of domestic demand, which are personal consumption (−0.4%), government consumption (−0.2%), and facility investment (−0.7%), decreased quarter-on-quarter, showing the seriousness of the decrease in domestic demand in the euro area (Figure 1-2-1-1).

  • The Social Atlas of Europe by Dimitris Ballas, Danny Dorling and Benjamin Hennig
Book Review: The Social Atlas of Europe by Dimitris Ballas, Danny Dorling and Benjamin Hennig blogs.lse.ac.uk/lsereviewofbooks/2015/09/22/book-review-the-social-atlas-of-europe-by-dimitris-ballas-danny- dorling-and-benjamin-hennig/ 22/09/2015 By combining a human geography perspective with graphic representation, The Social Atlas of Europe sets out to explore European identity through the social realities experienced by Europeans. Patricia Hogwood finds the authors’ unique approach highlights the unifying features of European social life and the subtle fragmentation of ‘Europe’ that is often masked, or at least obscured, by the logic of the nation state. The work harnesses state-of-the-art geographical information systems and new cartography techniques to reveal a European identity more essential, more fluid and more intriguing than traditional perceptions allow. The Social Atlas of Europe. Dimitris Ballas, Danny Dorling and Benjamin Hennig. Policy Press. 2014. As a third Greek bailout is agreed ‘in principle’ by the European partners, the question posed by Ballas et al of how to characterise Europe in the 2010s could not be more timely. Will this decade prove one of pan-European solidarity or will we look back on it as the decade of austerity, mass poverty, growing inequality and social exclusion? The authors’ conceptualisation and representation of Europe as its people conveys hope for mutual understanding and support across the nations, but also issues some stark warnings. The work’s individual chapters quite literally map European social realities across a wide range of areas including: cultural identity, population, social cohesion and inequalities of education, health and wellbeing, politics and policy and interaction with the environment.

  • Introduction and Overview
Introduction and overview JULIE SMITH Where does Europe begin and end? At one level, this question seems facile: most children could draw a geographical outline of Europe. Yet, there are many other ways—economic, political, cultural, and religious—of defining Europe. Such definitions frequently overlap and create tensions between states, including and among existing members of ‘European’ organizations. Europe’s external borders seem far from clear, while internal borders seem increasingly complicated. For forty years, the Cold War helped to determine which countries were allied and helped to frame institutionalized Europe of East and West. NATO, the Council of Europe, the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) and the European Communities were all products of the Cold War. The end of the Cold War was met with euphoria across Europe, but brought with it a series of unforeseen problems that have yet to be resolved. New states emerged after the collapse of communism: in 1993 Czechoslovakia split peacefully into two sovereign states, and in 1991 the Soviet Union split, rather less cleanly, creating instability and security threats, albeit of a different nature from those of the Cold War. Thus, a large number of economically and *politically weak states emerged, all seeking support, with many hoping for membership of Western institutions. The war in Chechyna is a continuing sign that the situation there is far from resolved. The breakup of Yugoslavia was bloodier and repeated Balkans wars have posed severe challenges for the region as well as for NATO and the EU. The Balkan wars have highlighted problems within the NATO alliance, most notably over Europe’s contribution of less than 20 per cent of the total air sorties in the bombardment of Serbia in the spring of 1999.
