Ennen kölinlaskua aloitettiin laivan sisaraluksen, Mein Schiff 6:n tuotanto telakan rakennushallissa. Mein Schiff 6 -risteilijän tuotanto alkoi TUI Cruisesin toimitusjohtajan Wybcke Meierin käynnistettyä telakan teräshallissa sijaitsevan plasmaleikkurin. Tuotannonaloituksen jälkeen telakalla juhlistettiin myös toista laivanrakennusprosessin merkkipaalua, aluksen rungonkoonnin aloittamista. Mein Schiff 5:n kölilohko laskettiin telakan rakennusaltaaseen, ja samalla suoritettiin perinteinen onnenlanttiseremonia, jossa köliloh- kon alle sijoitettiin laivalle onnea tuovia kolikoita. Tilaisuuksiin osallistuivat TUI Cruises- ja Royal Caribbean Cruises -varustamoiden, Meyer Turun ja Det Norske Veritas -luokituslaitoksen edustajia sekä joukko kutsuvieraita ja median edustajia. Mein Schiff 5 ja Mein Schiff 6 toimitetaan tilaajalleen vuosina 2016 ja 2017. Kuten sisaraluksensa Mein Schiff 3 ja Mein Schiff 4, myös uudet alukset ovat noin 294 metriä pitkiä ja niissä on 15 kantta, joiden yhteensä 1,253 hytissä on tilaa noin 2,506 matkustajalle. Hyteistä 90 prosenttia on ulkohyttejä ja 82 prosentilla on myös oma parveke. Molemmat alukset rakennetaan viimeisimpien teknisten standardien mukaisesti inno- vatiivisia ja ympäristöystävällistä rakennustekniikoita käyttäen. Alusten energiatehokkuus on erinomainen, sillä niiden energiankulutus on noin 30 prosenttia alempi kuin muiden samaa kokoluokkaa edustavien risteilyalusten. Rikkipesureiden ja katalysaattoreiden ansiosta alusten rikkipäästöjä voidaan vähentää jopa 99 prosenttia ja typpioksidipäästöjä noin 75 prosenttia. ”Tämän kasvun myötä pystymme vahvistamaan entisestään asemiamme Saksan markkinoiden moderneim- piin kuuluvan risteilylaivaston avulla. Pyrimme kasvattamaan markkinaosuutemme yli 25 prosenttiin näiden kuuden aluksen voimin”, sanoo TUI Cruisesin toimitusjohtaja Wybcke Meier. ”Laivan rakentaminen on telakalle valtava tiimityöurakka, jota toteutamme tiiviissä yhteistyössä asiakkaidemme ja alihankkijoidemme kanssa. Näin suuren ja räätälöidyn hankkeen toteuttaminen vaatii valtavan monen osapuolen työpanoksen, osaamisen ja sitoutumisen. On hieno perinne pysähtyä hetkeksi ja kunnioittaa uuden aluksen tuotannonaloitusta, kuten tänään saimme Mein Schiff 6:n osalta tehdä. Niihin kuuluvat Piikkiössä sijaitseva hyttitehdas Piikkiö Works Oy, Shipbuilding Completion Oy, joka tarjoaa ratkaisuja laivojen yleisiin tiloihin avaimet käteen -periaatteella sekä laivanrakennus- ja offshore-alan suunnitteluyritys ENG´nD Oy. TUI Cruises on TUI AG:n ja kansainvälisen risteilyvarustamon Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd:n yhteisyritys. Vuoden 2008 huhtikuussa perustettu ja Hampurissa päämajaansa pitävä yritys on tarjonnut risteilyjä saksankieliselle markkina-alueelle toukokuusta 2009 alkaen. Sen jälkeen kun Mein Schiff 3 -alus otettiin käyttöön kesällä 2014, Mein Schiff -alusten laivastoon on kuulunut kolme alusta, joissa on majoituskapasiteettia yhteensä 6 342 matkustajalle (Mein Schiff 1: 1 924, Mein Schiff 2: 1 912, Mein Schiff 3: 2 506). Alukset on suunniteltu hyvinvointia ja rentoutumista silmällä pitäen keulasta perään asti TUI Cruisesin kaiken kattava Premium All-Inclusive -matkustuskonsepti on suunnattu ensisijaisesti pariskunnille ja perheille, jotka hakevat vapautta, tilan tuntua, korkeaa laatua ja henkilökohtaista palvelua. Mein Schiff -alusten lukuisat palveluravintolat, kylpylä ja urheilualue, oma Nespresso-keitin joka hytissä ja tilavat parvekkeet takaavat, että TUI Cruises -risteilylomat huolehtivat kokonaisvaltaisesti mielen ja kehon hyvinvoinnista. TUI Cruises ottaa kesällä 2015 käyttöön Mein Schiff 4 -aluksen osana laivastonsa laajentamista. Kun tähän vielä lisätään vuosina 2016 ja 2017 saman suunnitelman mukaisesti rakennettavat Mein Schiff 5 ja Mein Schiff 6 -alukset, yhtiön hyvinvointilaivastoon kuuluu yhteensä kuusi alusta, joilla on noin 14 000 majoituspaikkaa. After all, we are looking back on an eventful 2019. We wanted to report what significance the Fridays for Future movement and the subsequent broad social debate it has triggered about climate protection and reducing CO₂ has for us as a cruise company. We wanted to tell you about our new Environmental Advisory Board, which advises us on these issues. And we wanted to write about the long-term TUI Cruises goal of offering climate-neutral and emission-free cruises. But now the world has been turned upside down. In March, we had to announce that we would temporarily suspend our cruise operations. The world has come to a stop, triggered by the rapid spread of the coronavirus pandemic. Almost our entire social life and large parts of the global economic and service sectors are at a standstill. In March, we brought 18,000 guests home at short notice, safe and sound. Part of our crew is still aboard our vessels, and both ashore and on board we are now preparing with all our strength to resume regular operations. And then the issue of environmental protection will play a key role again – after all, it is firmly anchored in our corporate strategy. An important milestone this year will be the development of a new environmental and climate strategy applicable until 2030.
