Richie är mest känd som medlem i punkbandet Ramones. Richie värvades till bandet 1983 efter att trummisen Marky Ramone blivit sparkad. Han spelade med gruppen på tre album, Too Tough to Die, Animal Boy och Halfway to Sanity, innan han hoppade av 1987. Han fortsatte dock att arbeta nära bandet, bland annat på några av Dee Dees soloinspelningar. Richie skrev också några av gruppens låtar under perioden han var medlem, varav den mest kända förmodligen är ”Somebody Put Something in My Drink” från Animal Boy. År 2013, släppte Richie Ramone sitt första soloalbum, ”Entitled”, på DC- Jam Records. Nu är Richie aktuell med sitt nya album "Cellophane" och är just nu ute på världsturné. Brown, Advisor Between 1984 and 1991, heavy metal became one of the most publicly popular and commercially successful rock music subgenres. The focus of this dissertation is to explore the following research questions: How did the subculture of heavy metal music between 1984 and 1991 evolve and what meanings can be derived from this ongoing process? How did the contextual circumstances surrounding heavy metal music during this period impact the performative choices exhibited by artists, and from a position of retrospection, what lasting significance does this particular era of heavy metal merit today? A textual analysis of metal- related materials fostered the development of themes relating to the selective choices made and performances enacted by metal artists. These themes were then considered in terms of gender, sexuality, race, and age constructions as well as the ongoing negotiations of the metal artist within multiple performative realms. Occurring at the juncture of art and commerce, heavy metal music is a purposeful construction. Metal musicians made performative choices for serving particular aims, be it fame, wealth, or art. These same individuals worked within a greater system of influence. Metal bands were the contracted employees of record labels whose own corporate aims needed to be recognized.

The reason this happens is because I believe that rock-n-roll is pure joy and that only the warmest souls who have a firm grasp on the concept that Shit Happens can create it. I like the Ramones and I have a shit-ton of respect for what they accomplished in breaking new ground and really establishing the punk scene in the US, but I just don't know a lot of their stuff beyond the 8 or 10 big songs. Though The Ramones were never really commercially viable, they were a huge influence on literally hundreds or perhaps thousands of bands to come along in their wake. I've never actually witnessed brothers behaving as brothers before. Rob Freeman (center) recording Ramones at Plaza Sound Studios 1976 THIRTY YEARS AGO Ramones collided with a piece of 2” magnetic tape like a downhill semi with no brakes slamming into a brick wall. While many memories of recording the Ramones’ first album remain vivid, others, undoubtedly, have dulled or even faded away. This might be due in part to the passing of years, but, moreover, I attribute it to the fact that the entire experience flew through my life at the breakneck speed of one of the band’s rapid-fire songs following a heady “One, two, three, four!” Most album recording projects of the day averaged four to six weeks to complete; Ramones, with its purported budget of only $6000, zoomed by in just over a week— start to finish, mixed and remixed. Much has been documented about the Ramones since their first album rocked the New York punk scene. A Google search of the Internet yields untold numbers of web pages filled with a myriad of Ramones facts and an equal number of fictions. (No, Ramones was not recorded on the Radio City Music Hall stage as is so widely reported…read on.) But my perspective on recording Ramones is unique, and I hope to provide some insight of a different nature.
