Very well writtenBy Nancy MaxwellI love Match Game and Gene Rayburn. Gene had a very interesting life. I looked at the show and him differently when I finished the book. Sad that his childhood wasn't very good. When you have a wonderful show like the Match Game was, it was really stupid to move the show to another time slot, which seemed like the beginning of the end for it. I am so glad that Gene was able to do what he needed to do to make the show a success. If it would have been too serious it would have been boring. But Gene brought his wonderful humor and warmth to make it the best game show on at the time. I recommend this book to anyone that loved Gene and The Match Game.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Gene Rayburn - The Man, The Myth, The LegendBy Michael CecilianiTo most TV fans, Gene Rayburn is best remembered as the host of The Match Game, and for good reason. He hosted several versions of that show for over 20 years. But Gene did more than that - much more. This book covers all of that. In addition to hosting Match Game, Gene was also a radio personality, an actor, a panelist, an announcer, a sidekick, an interviewer and a beauty pageant host. This doesn't even cover his off-camera interests, like woodworking. There was so much more to the man - as the old saying goes.Gene probably had his peak of popularity in the early to mid '70s, when he was hosting Match Game on CBS and appearing as a panelist on What's My Line and To Tell The Truth. I remember going to see tapings for TTTT back then. I always looked forward to seeing Rayburn there. It would be him, Bill Cullen (my favorite) and Garry Moore. Three legendary hosts on the same stage, doing their thing and having fun. It all came across naturally, nothing seemed phony about it.Author Adam Nedeff, who wrote "Quizmaster" about Bill Cullen., did his homework once again. We find out about the stuff we knew and several things we DIDN'T know about Gene, like the brother he had. I always thought he was an only child. By reading through this book, you will find out about Gene Rayburn:the fights he had with his female boss at WNEW, despite having the top rated radio show in NYCthe one show he was fired from as host that made him available for Match Gamethe one female Hollywood legend they tried to get on the 60s Match Game, but couldn'tthe celeb who was on MG '73 but didn't come back because he thought the scoring was unfairthe one expense Mark Goodson did NOT include for the 70s Match Gamehis cordial but somewhat distant friendship with Mark Goodsonwhat he really thought of "The Match Game/Hollywood Squares Hour"the real reason he was hired to host "Break The Bank"the emcee who Gene had a heated argument with backstage before going on a talk showhow the Game Show Network (GSN) revived his popularityAuthor Adam Nedeff is assisted in telling Gene Rayburn's story by getting tidbits and info from Peter Marshall, Orson Bean, Match Game writer Dick DeBartolo and Rayburn's daughter Lynne, among others. A well written book of fascinating facts about the man who came into the world as Eugene Rubessa. I'm hoping Adam will write about Richard Dawson, Bob Barker, or the inner workings of Goodson- Todman next. I'm looking forward to whatever he writes. But if you want to know all about Gene Rayburn, this book is your best source.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. One of those books that shockingly interestingBy Kilian SchneiderOne of those books that shockingly interesting. Going for a cardio workout one day I listened and read this book and after watching match game on the buzzer channel was transfixed by it and finished it in one sitting. This is the HARDBACK version."I got interested in Gene Rayburn during the 1990s, when I was a teenager and I discovered a marvelous cable channel called Game Show Network. I'd been a fan of game shows my entire life, and I was excited about seeing all these shows that I just vaguely remembered from my early childhood. My biggest surprise was how obsessed I became with a show I had never heard of until I got Game Show Network; a show that was cancelled the same year I was born, funnily enough. It was a show called Match Game.Gene Rayburn, of course, was the host of Match Game, and I appreciated right away how different he was from other game show hosts. He was so hammy and mischievous and physical, and he fit the show he was hosting better than anybody I had ever seen hosting a game show. He and Match Game were absolutely made for each other.I think the biggest discovery I made was the way Gene just got repeatedly sidetracked during his career. He came to New York to become a star in musical theater. When he couldn't find work in musical theater, he wound up becoming a disc jockey. And after a decade of that, he decided to try being a television star. That didn't work out right away, so he took a job announcing a new show. Well, that turned out to be The Tonight Show. His career, right up to the end, was filled with little detours. Gene always wound up doing something besides what he was really trying to do. John Lennon was right and Gene was the proof; life is what happens when you're making other plans. The biggest pitfall I encountered was the dearth of materials from earlier in Gene's career. Because reruns weren't a consideration for so long, a considerable chunk of the man's work in television is just gone. Think about it-he's best remembered for the 1970s version of Match Game, a job that he started when he was 55 years old. So finding resources from earlier than that could be surprisingly tricky, but that made it all the more exciting when I finally did see the occasional kinescope or hear an audio recording.I think readers will enjoy #1, the memories, if they enjoy Match Game as much as I do, and #2, the surprises. Gene really had a remarkable career outside of that show. My hope for this book is that it makes that image on the TV screen a little more three- dimensional. Gene was very human, very flawed; he had his frustrations and disappointments like the rest of us." -- The Author [fgaj8.ebook] The Matchless Gene Rayburn (hardback) By Adam Nedeff PDF [fgaj8.ebook] The Matchless Gene Rayburn (hardback) By Adam Nedeff Epub [fgaj8.ebook] The Matchless Gene Rayburn (hardback) By Adam Nedeff Ebook [fgaj8.ebook] The Matchless Gene Rayburn (hardback) By Adam Nedeff Rar [fgaj8.ebook] The Matchless Gene Rayburn (hardback) By Adam Nedeff Zip [fgaj8.ebook] The Matchless Gene Rayburn (hardback) By Adam Nedeff Read Online.
