Your sightseeing journey to Westhaven Retreat Ngarua Caves (Allow about 1.5hours depending on Tour waiting time)

Extensive and breathtaking variety of stalagmites and stalactites, also featuring an excellent skeletal display of the extinct moa. Open daily throughout summer offering guided cave tours hourly from 10am-4pm. Price per adult is $20, for children aged between 5-15 it is $8 and children under 5 are free.

The user-friendly access to view the Ngarua Caves is suitable for all ages.

DRIVING DIRECTIONS:

Ngarua Cave is directly en-route to Westhaven Retreat, approximately 1 hour 15 minutes drive from Nel- son, via State Highway 60. Located on top of Takaka Hill, 67.5 km from Nelson, located on the right!

Allow 45 minutes for Cave sightseeing and sometime to relax with a coffee/refreshments while enjoying the spectacular views of Bay and the surrounding Karst landscape. Anatoki Salmon Farm & Cafe (Allow 1 to 2 hours with lunch included)

You’ll find this unique freshwater fishing activity in Takaka. Here you can relax and catch your very own premium Chinook salmon, with no fishing experience required. Have it hot smoked or sliced finely into Sashimi, ready to eat in our cafe. Alternatively you may like to stop by in our new Pancake cafe or go and feed the eels.

Open daily from 9:30am to 4pm. Prices per kg/salmon $24 with additional cost have it prepared.

Anatoki Salmon Farm can be found en-route to Westhaven Retreat, approximately 1 hour 45 minutes drive from Nelson, via State Highway 60.

Traveling along State Highway 60 to Takaka, TURN LEFT onto ‘Long Plain Road’ (102km from Nelson) Continue on ‘Long Plain Road” and drive onwards to ‘McCullan Road’ (5.2km) Te Waikoropupu Springs (allow approx 30min - 60min)

Te Waikoropupū Springs are the largest freshwater springs in , the largest cold water springs in the Southern Hemisphere and contain some of the clearest water ever measured.

Lovely nature walk 10min to 30 minutes through the bush to the Springs.

DRIVING DIRECTIONS:

Te Waikoropupu Springs are directly en-route to Westhaven Retreat, approximately 1 hour 55 minutes drive from Nelson, just after Takaka township Driving time from here to Westhaven Lodge is 1hour 25 minutes.

3.5km after Takaka township along State Highway 60 TURN LEFT onto ‘Pupu Valley’ road 2 km along ‘Pupu Valley’ road TURN LEFT onto ‘Pupu Springs’ road, continue for 1.1km & Cape Farewell (allow approx 2.5hours incl. driving)

Wharariki Beach and Cape Farewell, just a few kilometres from and the northern-most tip of the , used to be something of a well-kept secret. The sandy beach is accessible via a 30-minute walking track from the end of Wharariki Road Car Park. Cape Farewell is only just a few minutes ahead of the Wharariki Beach Car Park. A short 5 minutes walk takes you to a beautiful view point of exposed cliffs and stunning views, a landmark of the most northerly point of the South Island.

DRIVING DIRECTIONS:

Wharariki Beach & Cape Farewell are located passed the turn off to Westhaven Retreat. Allow 2 to 2.5 hours of extra time, even more if you feel like visiting the Archway Cafe or Farewell Spit Cafe.

While heading NORTH along the ‘Collingwood-Puponga Main Road’ drive through PAKAWAU township. Just behind the Pakawau town you would usually turn right to Westhaven Retreat, however to get to Wharariki Beach keep going straight ahead. 7.6km from Pakawau CONTINUE onto ‘Seddon Street’ 230 meters TURN LEFT onto ‘Wharariki Road’ (6.5km) Recommended wineries, art galleries and cafés
