“Everybody has been directly or indirectly affected by cancer,” Chu said, after she got a round of congratulatory hugs from co-workers. “This was easy to do.”

The cause is a personal one for Rob Hale, too. His father, Robert Hale, died from pancreatic cancer in 2008.

Scores of Granite Telecom employees cheered as Hale sat in one of the dozen barber chairs in the courtyard, and whooped as they watched his locks falls away.

“It feels good,” Hale said, as he stepped from the chair. “Real good.”
