O’Connor ABSTRACT This paper identifies habits that contribute to American national identity, as demonstrated in the interactions of U.S. diplomats abroad. I examine the foundations of curriculum in U.S. education—and how national identity is reproduced within this domestic institution. Our American identity is the amalgamation of our individual habits which are rooted in our ideas, norms, and values of what is important and worthy of pursuit, what is proper and what is correct. These ideas form a discourse in American identity today, as they did in the time of John Dewey—father of modern education in the United States—and Alexis de Tocqueville—a sociologist, cultural anthropologist, and political commentator—who both have much to say on the relationship of formal education to national identity and politics. These particularly American cultural habits are elucidated in diplomatic action because diplomats are constantly in situations that highlight contrasts between cultures. iii ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS A special thank you goes to Ambassadors Melvyn Levitsky, Roger Kirk, and Jack Matlock for taking the time to meet with me and answer my questions. Ports play an important role in China's economic development. Therefore, improving the competitiveness of coastal ports is an urgent problem facing the society at present. This paper selects 12 relevant indexes to establish a relatively comprehensive evaluation index system, and uses factor analysis and cluster analysis to evaluate and rank the competitiveness of China's 30 major coastal ports. 1. Introduction Port is the gathering point and hub of water and land transportation, the distribution center of import and export of industrial and agricultural products and foreign trade products, and the important node of logistics. With the continuous innovation of transportation mode and the rapid development of science and technology, ports play an increasingly important role in driving the economy, with increasingly rich functions and more important status and role. Meanwhile, the competition among ports is also increasingly fierce. In recent years, with the rapid development of China's economy and the promotion of "the Belt and Road Initiative", China's coastal ports have also been greatly developed. China has more than 18,000 kilometers of coastline, with superior natural conditions. With the introduction of the policy of reformation and opening, the human conditions are also excellent. -

December 1, 1943 INTRODUCTION From its very beginning as an established Corps in 1898 the Hospital Corps of the United States Navy has been devoted to humanitarian service. It has administered first aid and nursing care to the sick and injured of the Navy and Marine Corps during three of the Nation’s wars, and through the many years of intervening peace. For more than a century prior to its organization by act of Congress* the pioneers of the Hospital Corps—the Hospital Mates, the Hospital Stewards, the Surgeon’s Stewards, the Apothecaries, the Nurses and the Bay men—served faithfully and energetically in the Medical Department of the Navy. On numerous occasions of the past members of the Hospital Corps have been assigned to civilian areas for first-aid and relief work in times of disaster. -

Tendering No.: PHWFD-II-ZB-025. 1. Bid invitation conditions Fujian Tendering Center Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "the Bidding Agency"), entrusted by Fujian Zhongmin Offshore Wind Power Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “the Tenderee”), now holds a public tendering for the Wind Turbine Foundation Construction Project (Section II) of the Putian Pinghai Bay Offshore Wind Power Farm Phase II Project for deciding contractors. The Project accepts the bids of eligible enterprises from the member contries of “BRICS”. 2. Project overview and tendering scope: 2.1 Project overview The Putian Pinghai Bay Offshore Wind Power Farm Phase II Project is situated in Pinghai Bay, Xiuyu District, Putian City. The project neighbors Daitou Peninsula on the west, Nanri Island on the north and Meizhou Island on the southwest. It is about 12km far from Pinghai Town and covers part areas of Zone B and Zone C of the Putian Pinghai Bay Offshore Wind Power Farm. A total of 41 sets of wind turbine generator units with an individual capacity of 6MW are proposed to be installed, including 20 sets in Zone B and 21 sets in Zone C. The total installed capacity will reach about 246MW. 2.2 Tendering scope: The tendering scope covers construction of foundation and ancillary facilities of 21 wind turbines in Area C. These include: Foundation construction and ancillary facilities installation for 21 wind turbines and engineering safety monitoring, special recording of vedios on all site construction processes of Phase II Projects (including Cormorant island Wharf, Booster Station, Phase II Marine Laying and Phase II Foundation Construction, etc.) , except the Basic construction and fan installation of I section and the installation of Phase II Wind Turbine . -
Respective Influence of Vertical Mountain Differentiation on Debris Flow Occurrence in the Upper Min River, China
www.nature.com/scientificreports OPEN Respective infuence of vertical mountain diferentiation on debris fow occurrence in the Upper Min River, China Mingtao Ding*, Tao Huang , Hao Zheng & Guohui Yang The generation, formation, and development of debris fow are closely related to the vertical climate, vegetation, soil, lithology and topography of the mountain area. Taking in the upper reaches of Min River (the Upper Min River) as the study area, combined with GIS and RS technology, the Geo-detector (GEO) method was used to quantitatively analyze the respective infuence of 9 factors on debris fow occurrence. We identify from a list of 5 variables that explain 53.92%% of the total variance. Maximum daily rainfall and slope are recognized as the primary driver (39.56%) of the spatiotemporal variability of debris fow activity. Interaction detector indicates that the interaction between the vertical diferentiation factors of the mountainous areas in the study area is nonlinear enhancement. Risk detector shows that the debris fow accumulation area and propagation area in the Upper Min River are mainly distributed in the arid valleys of subtropical and warm temperate zones. The study results of this paper will enrich the scientifc basis of prevention and reduction of debris fow hazards. Debris fows are a common type of geological disaster in mountainous areas1,2, which ofen causes huge casual- ties and property losses3,4. To scientifcally deal with debris fow disasters, a lot of research has been carried out from the aspects of debris fow physics5–9, risk assessment10–12, social vulnerability/resilience13–15, etc. Jointly infuenced by unfavorable conditions and factors for social and economic development, the Upper Min River is a geographically uplifed but economically depressed region in Southwest Sichuan. -

Japan Has Always Held an Important Place in Modern World Affairs, Switching Sides From
Japan has always held an important place in modern world affairs, switching sides from WWI to WWII and always being at the forefront of technology. Yet, Japan never came up as much as China, Mongolia, and other East Asian kingdoms as we studied history at school. Why was that? Delving into Japanese history we found the reason; much of Japan’s history was comprised of sakoku, a barrier between it and the Western world, which wrote most of its history. How did this barrier break and Japan leap to power? This was the question we set out on an expedition to answer. With preliminary knowledge on Matthew Perry, we began research on sakoku’s history. We worked towards a middle; researching sakoku’s implementation, the West’s attempt to break it, and the impacts of Japan’s globalization. These three topics converged at the pivotal moment when Commodore Perry arrived in Japan and opened two of its ports through the Convention of Kanagawa. To further our knowledge on Perry’s arrival and the fall of the Tokugawa in particular, we borrowed several books from our local library and reached out to several professors. Rhoda Blumberg’s Commodore Perry in the Land of the Shogun presented rich detail into Perry’s arrival in Japan, while Professor Emi Foulk Bushelle of WWU answered several of our queries and gave us a valuable document with letters written by two Japanese officials. Professor John W. Dower’s website on MIT Visualizing Cultures offered analysis of several primary sources, including images and illustrations that represented the US and Japan’s perceptions of each other.
