O principal objetivo deste trabalho traduz-se na construção de uma leitura sistematizada do projeto e implementação de microcarros europeus ao longo do século XX, tendo em vista não só o esclarecimento/definição do próprio conceito, mas também a perceção do seu papel atual e futuro a nível da mobilidade urbana sustentável. Neste sentido, percorrem-se dimensões como o design específico dos veículos, antecessores, autores e empresas envolvidas, assim como o contexto socioeconómico inerente. Como metodologia, realizou-se uma pesquisa exaustiva em fontes bibliográficas e fontes on-line, para além de contactos diretos com colecionadores e especialistas na temática, através de fóruns de debate e participação em encontros e mostras nacionais. Os microcarros consistem em veículos motorizados, que surgiram na Europa após a Segunda Guerra Mundial, num contexto de escassez de recursos económicos, energéticos e de materiais de produção.

En une quinzaine d'années, Fiat a vu fondre sa part de marché sur le continent : co-leader en 1988 avec Volkswagen (14,9%), sixième et dernier des grands généralistes depuis la fin de la décennie suivante, avec 8,2% en 2002. La Punto, seul modèle turinois à figurer parmi les vingt-cinq meilleures ventes européennes, ne pointe désormais qu'à la huitième place, alors que jadis la Uno caracolait en tête. Elles sont loin les années soixante où la 500, le célèbre "pot de yaourt", établissait un nouveau standard de voiture minimaliste. Loin, les années soixante- dix où la Fiat 127 devenait la référence de la voiture urbaine moderne. Loin, la décennie quatre-vingt où la Uno s'imposait comme le plus grand succès de l'histoire de la firme, l'Autobianchi Y10 élargissait le luxe aux segments inférieurs, la Lancia Delta s'apprêtait à dominer le championnat du monde des rallyes, la Fiat Tipo se présentait comme la vitrine de l'excellence du processus industriel du constructeur, où enfin les routières Lancia Thema et Fiat Croma conquéraient des parts de marché au détriment des prestigieuses routières allemandes.

    Between Business Interests and Ideological Marketing The USSR and the Cold War in Fiat Corporate Strategy, 1957–1972 ✣ Valentina Fava On 15 August 1966, the Fiat automotive company signed an agreement in Moscow with the Soviet government regarding the construction of the Volga Automobile Factory (VAZ) to manufacture Fiat cars. The plant began oper- ations in September 1970—one year later than originally planned—and was a highly automated facility that was able to produce 660,000 Fiat 124s per annum.1 More than half a century later, the image of Italian-Soviet partnership in building the giant automobile plant still arouses emotions and curiosity, as demonstrated by documentaries and preparations for the fiftieth anniversary 1. The model’s body and engine were modified to be better suited for Soviet roads and climatic condi- tions. The total cost of constructing the plant was estimated at $642 million in February 1966: $247 million (39 percent) was to be spent in Italy, about $55 million (8 percent) was to be spent in the United States, France, Great Britain, Belgium, Switzerland, and West Germany (but this percentage grew to such an extent that $50 million alone was expected to be spent in the United States), and $340 million (53 percent) was to be spent (it never was) on building plants or equipment in member-states of the Council for Mutual Economic Assistance. This estimate included neither consultancy fees for the technical designs of the factory and the car nor the transfer of know-how and assistance methods, nor did it budget for purchasing special materials or paying third parties’ commissions for patents or additional know-how.

    Front Wheel Drive The story of pioneers of the front wheel drive motorcar To most British motorists that think about such things, the Mini, was the beginning of the front wheel drive revolution. The revolutionary concept that was the Mini was it’s packaging.The packing of the engine, gearbox and final drive into a very compact unit, leaving sufficient space in a very small car for four people. The Mini didn’t start the front wheel drive revolution but the packaging revolution that has spread throughout the worlds motor industry. This was made possible because of the developments in front wheel drive technology that had gone on during the previous forty years, but until that time had been almost ignored by the British motor industry. The combination of front wheel drive and efficient packaging has revolutionised the world’s motor industry, being almost universally used, except were considerations of cost and or size are not important. This is the story of those years before the Mini and the pioneers of front wheel drive. From the Carriage to the Horseless Carriage For the thousands of years, from the time of their invention, wheeled vehicles were pulled from the front. This was because it was an inherently stable arrangement, it made steering easier and gave maximum control. This lasted as long as the foot was used to transmit the motive power to the road, but once the wheel was used to transmit the power of an onboard engine to the road the situation changed. This was due to the correct and universal understanding that the front wheels must be used for steering, and as it was so much simpler to drive the none steerable wheels, rear wheel drive became the accepted method used for the pioneer self propelled vehicle.

Note: La targa posteriore a numeri bianchi su fondo nero è in carta adesiva e segue nella numerazione l'evolversi del modello, il che consente una accettabile classificazione cronologica. Il fondino del modello è verniciato di nero ed è fissato per mezzo di due viti cromate con la testa a croce. I primi modelli non hanno il codice articolo riportato sul fondello. Il codice appare in un secondo tempo, ma sempre nella prima serie. Model: Metallic light gray color. Red interior and steering wheel. Notes: The rear plate with white numbers on a black background is in adhesive paper and follows the evolution of the model in the numbering, which allows an acceptable chronological classification. The bottom of the model is painted black and is fixed by means of two chromed screws with the cross head.
