YOUTH BASEBALL RULES & REGULATIONS HOUSE PROGRAM Tee-Ball 1: Maverick, Stallion & Mustang: Ages 4-5 (Pre-school): Ages 9-12 (Grades 3-6): Plays during the spring of the year prior to entry into Age groups are combined and players are drafted by kindergarten. Kids hit the ball off of a tee, no catcher, ability based on a player evaluation. Teams are mixed and a dad occupies 1st base. Everyone plays the field, up with players from multiple schools. Kids pitch all everyone bats. 6 innings and umpires are utilized for the first time. Playoffs at the end of the season determine a league • Teams are divided up by school champion. • One practice per week • 10 game season Maverick and Stallion are competitive leagues where • Games played at Glen Crest/Parkview/Village stealing is allowed after the ball crosses the plate. They use their time efficiently, applying a sensible approach to both home and work. People switch back and forth with ease between time on and off the job many times each day. It is this easy transition between work and home that allows people in today’s Swedish society to fully enjoy life. On dark, wintry mornings, they wake up; light candles; drop their children off at daycare; hurry to work; take care of the morning’s first tasks; and then at 10am they stop to relax with a morning fika (coffee break). Fika revolves around coffee, but it wouldn’t be complete without a cinnamon roll or some other sweet baked goods. Back after lunch, they work a few more hours before taking an afternoon fika. Fika at work is a valuable tool for colleagues to communicate on a personal level, as well as about work ̶ killing two birds with one stone. They give their full concentration to their work while on the job and finish up quickly. They don’t hang around the office unless there is work to do, and they make good use of the hours between the end of the workday and when they sit down to dinner. -

The House Rules emphasize some Little League Rules that are important for safety. The House Rules stay within the Official Little League rules but are adapted for Lower Loudoun Little League. For example, the Official Little League rulebook has no time limits for games, but the House Rules do because of time limitations on our fields. When in doubt about a rule, see the Official Little League Rulebook. SAFETY 1. The League’s 2016 Safety Plan is on the Lower Loudoun Little League (LLLL) website at www.llbaseball.org (Look under the Safety Plan tab – on left) 2. How Krispy Kremes Work by Tom Harris In the southern United States, sweets fans have been scarfing down Krispy Kreme doughnuts for more than 50 years -- in many families, they're a weekly ritual! The rest of the country finally got 1 a taste in the '90s, when Krispy Kreme launched new doughnut stores coast to coast, to much fanfare. The company's unique snacks have also crept into pop culture over the past few years, appearing in several TV shows and in dozens of national magazines. On top of that, Krispy Kreme has been making headlines in the financial world -- it was one of the best performing initial public offering stocks in 2000. All this, as well as some grumbling stomachs, seemed like a good excuse to stop by our local Krispy Kreme for a peek behind the scenes. In this edition of HowStuffWorks, we'll see how the Raleigh, NC, "factory store" transforms raw ingredients into Krispy 2 Kreme's signature doughnut, the "original glazed." We'll also see how the store's doughnut-makers get chocolate filling in the middle of doughnuts, and find out a little bit about Krispy Kreme's distribution structure. Mixing and Extruding The Raleigh Krispy Kreme is one of Krispy Kreme's many factory stores, bakeries that make doughnuts for walk-in customers as well as for local grocery stores. All the factory store's 3 ingredients are prepared in a Krispy Kreme manufacturing facility in Winston Salem, about two hours away. In the factory store back room, we found stacks of doughnut mix, sugar, yeast, doughnut filling and other packaged ingredients. -

Episode 3: Daryl Brewster, former CEO of Krispy Kreme, on saving an iconic brand Transcript Mike Kearney: Krispy Kreme, just saying that name brings back some incredible memories of my kids and I going to the Krispy Kreme located near my hometown in northern California. You know, I have these vivid memories of driving down the highway, Highway 680 for those of you in northern California, where they have the “Hot Now” sign. And every time that sign is lit up my kids are just dying to go. When you look at Krispy Kreme and their story, they were on top of the world in the early 2000s. In fact, in 2003 Fortune magazine anointed Krispy Kreme as America’s hottest brand. But we all know that story didn’t last forever. In the mid-2000s they ran into some challenges that really took the wind out of their sail. Things like accounting irregularities. Who would want to be associated with that? Unhappy franchise owners. And who remembers the low carb craze? Daryl Brewster: We were at the edge and the sharks were swirling around the tank here. The blood was in the water at Krispy Kreme. Rule of Little League Baseball & Softball Fair Ball A batted ball that: ● stops on fair ground between home and first or third base; ● is on or over fair territory when bounding to the outfield past first or third base; ● touches first, second or third base; ● first falls on fair territory on or beyond first base or third base; ● while on or over fair territory touches a player or umpire; or ● while over fair territory, passes out of the playing field in flight (home run). Foul Ball A foul ball is a batted ball that: ● settles on foul territory between home and first or third base; ● bounds past first or third base on or over foul territory; ● first falls on foul territory beyond first base or third base; ● while on or over foul territory, touches a player, umpire; or any object foreign to the natural ground. Always judge the position of the ball, not the fielder. Fair or Foul Territory? Is home plate in fair or foul territory? Are first and third base in fair or foul territory? Are the foul lines and foul poles in fair or foul territory? Fair or Foul Ball? What call if a batted ball touches home plate? Hank Zaranski Baseball Major League Rules Code of Conduct: The Dobbs Ferry Youth Little League is committed to advancing the principals of sportsmanship and fair play. Our goal is to promote mutual respect among players, coaches, umpires, and spectators while providing a quality environment for our children to learn the game of Baseball. The Code is intended to provide behavioral guidance and establish clear expectations for all involved. It is the obligation of ALL program participants, spectators and volunteers, to comply with the terms and provisions of the DFYLL Code of Conduct. Any person violating the Code shall be subject to review and possible administrative action by the DFYLL Board of Directors. Rules Overview: Rules not explicitly identified in this document, default to standard Little League rules appropriate for this age level. Eligibility: ● 5th, 6th, and 7th graders who are Little League Age 11 or 12. Final decision of eligibility remains with the DFYLL Board of Directors. Game Day: Preliminary: ● Alternate players: Coaches may bring up a maximum of 2 players from the next lower league in order to field a team. Players brought up must have parental permission, play a corner outfield position (left or right field), and bat last in the batting order. ● Warm-ups: Each team allowed 10 minutes of field practice IF TIME Permits before the start time of the game. ● Dugout assignments: Home team takes 3rd base side of field. ● Dugout - Players: All players not in the field must remain in the dugout. ● Dugout - Coaches: Only coaches and assistants (no more than 3) will be allowed in the dugout. -

E-cigarettes are used to aerosolize a liquid (e-liquid) that the user inhales. Flavorings in e-liquids is a primary reason for youth to initiate use of e-cigarettes. Evidence is growing in the scientific literature that inhalation of some flavorings is not without risk of harm. In this review, 67 original articles (primarily cellular in vitro) on the toxicity of flavored e-liquids were identified in the PubMed and Scopus databases and evaluated critically. At least 65 individual flavoring ingredients in e-liquids or aerosols from e-cigarettes induced toxicity in the respiratory tract, cardiovascular and circulatory systems, skeletal system, and skin. Cinnamaldehyde was most frequently reported to be cytotoxic, followed by vanillin, menthol, ethyl maltol, ethyl vanillin, benzaldehyde and linalool. Additionally, modern e-cigarettes can be modified to aerosolize cannabis as dried plant material or a concentrated extract.
