Low- income LA residents who couldn't afford professional tax preparation services turned to Loyola Law School students for help in fil- ing their taxes to qualify for the refunds. Bonnie Moss Lolita Fatjo John Paladin
John Paladin Lolita Fatjo Bonnie Moss Special Guests Ethan Peck The grandson of Hollywood legend and Oscar winning actor Gregory “To Kill a Mockingbird” Peck, Ethan Peck made his grand entry into Star Trek lore during the second season of Star Trek: Discovery as none other than one the franchise’s most iconic characters, Mr. Spock! Born in Los Angeles, he played a variety of sports in high school and studied the cello. He attended New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts and won the 2009 Sonoma International Film Festival’s Best Actor award in 2009. He was appearing in films and television productions, such as That 70’s Show, 10 Things I Hate About You, The Curse of Sleeping Beauty, and The Honor List. After landing the role of Spock in Discovery, Ethan says he “dove” right into watching Star Trek’s original mid-60s run to learn about the character of Spock and Leonard Nimoy’s performances, even reading Nimoy’s two books on the subject: I Am Not Spock and the follow-up I Am Spock. During the first few months of filming, he would have Nimoy as Spock in his mind as he delivered his own performances, until he found the “centre of the character” within himself. This is the first time Ethan visits us at Trekonderoga! Join Ethan as he tours the stunning standing sets of the U.S.S. Enterprise, and don’t miss your chance to meet this amazing, fine young actor in person! Appears Friday & Saturday only Terry Farrell Terry Farrell brought to life the character of Jadzia Dax, a member of one the more interesting alien species from the Star Trek universe, the symbiont Trill. -
Warriors & Wildcats Report
Warriors & Wildcats Report No. 21 C August 15, 2015 | Is summer really over? Back to school already? Really? The answer for Los Angeles Unified School District students is YES. The 2015-16 school term begins on August 18 and so we are back for a new year of the Uni Hi Education Foundation Warriors & Wildcats Report. There is a lot to look forward to at Uni this year: C Facilities are improving, notably the magnificent new football field and all-weather running track, allowing Uni to host home football games and track meets. C The drama program, already a star on campus, will be helped with renovations to the Stivelman Theater. C New, technically-updated classrooms are being added, allowing college-style teaching presentations and direct-to-student transfer of class notes. C Advanced Placement programs and cutting-edge college-credit programs are continuing to expand, including in the acclaimed Digital Media Magnet program, where students are learning to write code and develop applications for college credit. C The new Collins & Katz Family YMCA is beginning to rise out of the ground at the corner of Westgate and Ohio Avenues. When completed next year, it will provide state-of-the-art fitness, swimming and locker facilities for Uni students as well as for the Westside community. One critical area where Uni is underserved is alumni involvement. Nearly every issue of this twice-a-month report recounts successes of Uni graduates. Having the brilliant Steve Udvar- Hazy ‘65 address the Class of 2015 at commencement last June was an important step forward. -

Please note that food and drink are not allowed in the planetarium President Frank Moore Winter astronomy strikes again. For those of you who missed it, and quite a few did, on February 21 we had our February Dark Sky Star Party at the Antelope Valley California Poppy Reserve. The hearty souls who attended braved cold temperatures and a biting wind to set up and view the cosmos. Because of the threat of rain Matt Leone brought his 16” dob, in lieu of his 24”, as it afforded easier and faster take down if we had to make a retreat. Darrell Bennett had his 12” Meade SCT, Rose and Frank Moore their Celestron C-11, and Ellen Mahler her 6” Orion dob. The other brave souls in attendance included Ruth Olson, Inga Nagel, and Bob Gauldin. Bob Ayres brought his SCT and mount but as it was near dark when he arrived, and already biting cold, he held in abeyance in his truck while we waited, and hoped, the weather would improve. It didn’t. Though clouds were threatening on the horizons, especially to the south, views were crystal clear in the open parts of the sky. -

For the Love of Spock is due to be released this summer to coincide with the 50th anniversary of Star Trek, which first aired on September 8, 1966. The film explores the development of the Spock character and his special relationship with Captain Kirk (William Shatner) and Dr. McCoy (DeForest Kelley), along with the magic that this “Triumvirate” brought to audiences around the world. The film includes interviews with original cast members as well as the new Star Trek cast, including Zachary Quinto who now plays Mr. Spock. The documentary also looks at Leonard Nimoy's other artistic accomplishments and his work as a director – especially his hit movies Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home and Three Men and a Baby. For Adam Nimoy, the film reconciles a son’s long journey away from and back to his father and is also his loving tribute to a man adored by millions. “I feel very fortunate that so much of this project came together before I lost my father last year. -
