  • The Encyclopedia of New Religions Bibliography
The Encyclopedia of New Religions Bibliography The following bibliography has been constructed to enable readers to explore selected topics in greater depth. Rather than present a long uncategorized list, which would have been unhelpful and potentially confusing, the classification of literature mirrors the format of the book. (Classifying new religions and spiritualities is a notoriously difficult problem, and it should not be thought that groups that have been bracketed together do not have important differences.) In a few instances a movement may be relevant to more than one section; hence readers are advised to look in other sections if they cannot instantly locate the sought material. Anyone who compiles a bibliography on new spiritualities has to make choices, since there is a vast array of literature available. While endeavouring to include a good range of material and viewpoints, we have omitted material that we consider to be badly inaccurate or misleading. However, some religious movements have been virtually neglected by writers and hence the material indicated below is the best available. For some groups there is virtually no literature apart from their own writings. While we have aimed to incorporate material on the grounds of accessibility, quality, up-to-dateness, popularity and prominence, inclusion here does not necessarily imply endorsement by the editor or individual authors. At the end of each section a selection of websites has been provided. However, it should be noted that, whilst these were all available at the time of writing, and whilst we believe them to be relatively reliable, unlike books, websites can literally disappear overnight.

Abstract Ayurveda, the oldest Indian indigenous medicine system of plant drugs is known from very early times for preventing or suppressing various tumors using these natural drugs. And nowadays scientists are keener to researches on complementary and alternative medicine for the management of cancer. In Ayurvedic concept, according to ‘Charaka’ and ‘SushrutaSamhitas’ cancer is described as inflammatory or non-inflammatory swelling and mentioned either as ‘Granthi’ (minor neoplasm) or ‘Arbuda‘ (major neoplasm). The nervous system (Vata or air), the venous system (Pitta or fire) and the arterial system (Kapha or water) are three basics of Ayurveda and very important for normal body function. In malignant tumors all three systems get out of control (Tridoshas) and lose mutual coordination that causes tissue damage, resulting critical condition. Tridoshas cause excessive metabolic crisis resulting in proliferation. Key words: Cancer, Charaka, Arbuda, Herbal drugs, TCM. and not coloring the chyle. On the whole, the term of Introduction Ranjakagni related to the liver is too difficult to match with Liver is a vital organ for chayapachaya (metabolism) of any of the components present in the liver.[7] consumed food.

  • Complementary and Alternative Medicine Use By
1 Complementary and alternative medicine use by cancer patients commencing curative-intent chemotherapy: survey and educational intervention Peter James Smith B Pharm, Dip Ed, PG Cert Evidence Based Comp Med A thesis submitted for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy at The University of Queensland in 2016 School of Pharmacy 2 Abstract Aims The aims of this thesis were to establish to what extent adult cancer patients receiving curative-intent chemotherapy potentially compromise their treatment and/or safety by using complementary and alternative medicine (CAM), and to identify which cancer patients use CAM at this time, why they use it, and who are most at risk. Additionally, it aimed to establish whether there was a need for an educational intervention to guide cancer patients on the safe use of CAM with chemotherapy, develop and publish the educational intervention and to evaluate the effectiveness of the intervention through surveying cancer patients and cancer care professionals, particularly doctors. Methods The thesis employed mixed methods, over several phases: a literature review, an observational study of 75 solid tumour patients receiving curative-intent chemotherapy for the first time and then, using results obtained as a framework, an educational brochure intervention was developed. Qualitative methods were used to evaluate the potential acceptance and content of the educational brochure and also to determine the effectiveness of the brochure post publication and intervention. Results Patients receiving chemotherapy may be consuming CAM to treat cancer, to lessen chemotherapy side effects, for symptom management, or to treat conditions unrelated to their cancer. Others may influence cancer patients in their CAM decision-making: practitioners, family, friends, spouse and even casual acquaintances met in waiting rooms and support groups.

  • Colloidal Silver: Risk Without Benefit 页码,1/7
Colloidal Silver: Risk without Benefit 页码,1/7 Quackwatch Home Page Colloidal Silver: Risk Without Benefit Stephen Barrett, M.D. Colloidal silver is a suspension of submicroscopic metallic silver particles in a colloidal base. Long-term use of silver preparations can lead to argyria, a condition in which silver salts deposit in the skin, eyes, and internal organs, and the skin turns ashen-gray. Many cases of argyria occurred during the pre-antibiotic era when silver was a common ingredient in nosedrops. When the cause became apparent, doctors stopped recommending their use, and reputable manufacturers stopped producing them. The official drug guidebooks (United States Pharmacopeia and National Formulary) have not listed colloidal silver products since 1975. Dubious Ads In recent years, silver-containing products have been marketed with unsubstantiated claims that they are effective against AIDS, cancer, infectious diseases, parasites, chronic fatigue, acne, warts, hemorrhoids, enlarged prostate, and many other diseases and conditions. Some marketers claim that colloidal silver is effective against hundreds of diseases. During 1997 and 1998, Changes International, a Florida-based multilevel company, stated: Our colloidal silver contains 99.99% pure silver particles suspended indefinitely in demineralized water that kills bacteria and viruses. It can be applied topically and/or absorbed into the blood stream sub-lingually (under the tongue), thereby avoiding the negative effects of traditional antibiotics that kill good bacteria in the lower digestive tract. An all natural antibiotic alternative in the purest form available. The presence of colloidal silver near a virus, fungi, bacterium or any other single celled pathogen disables its oxygen-metabolism enzyme, its chemical lung, so to say.
