This research is an attempt to unfold the current situation of women’s development within such context by studying the case of Guangdong -- the province as forerunner of China’s economic reform and opening-up -- drawing on current primary resources. First, this study reveals mixed results for women’s development in Guangdong: achievements have been made in education, employment and political participation in terms of “rates” and “numbers,” and small “breakthroughs” have taken place in legislation and women’s awareness of their equal rights and interests; however, limitations and challenges, like disparities between different women groups in addition to gender disparity, continue to exist.

Abstract. Along with the rapidly increasing pressure of urban transportation, China's subway operation is facing the challenge of high-density passenger flow. In order to improve the level of subway operation and ensure its safety, it is necessary to analyze and study the operation status of the metro station under the condition of high-density passenger flow, and propose the corresponding improvement scheme. Taking Guangzhou Metro as the study object, this paper discusses and analyzes the operation and management status of Guangzhou Metro Station. And combined with the risks and deficiencies in the operation and organization of Guangzhou metro, effective improvement measures are proposed in this paper. Operation Status of Guangzhou Metro The first line of Guangzhou Metro opened on June 28, 1997, and Guangzhou became the fourth city in mainland China to open and operate the subway. As of April 26, 2018, Guangzhou Metro has 13 operating routes, with 391.6 km and 207 stations in total, whose opening mileage ranks third in China and fourth in the world now. As of July 24, 2018, Guangzhou Metro Line Network had transported 1.645 billion passengers safely, with an average daily passenger volume of 802.58 million, an increase of 7.88% over the same period of 2017 (7.4393 million).

The study investigates the poetic structuring of a minimally interrupted stretch of spontaneous polemical speech from a well-known Hong Kong social activist. The data comes from a Cantonese television program which interviews prominent and controversial social figures in an intimate living-room setting, and the stretch of speech was prompted by a question regarding the plight of the lower class during a time when Hong Kong society was experiencing a widening gap between the rich and the poor. The monologue is part of a discourse of resistance against predominant social and government views on the poor, and contains two poignant personal narratives. Textual, prosodic, and gestural features are examined and they are found to be used jointly to structure the flow of the narratives as well as arguments in the data. Findings suggest the speaker employs these multi-modal resources to create a predominance of three- and five- part patterns that are parallel between the narratives and the overall argument structure. The narratives are found to play a central role in the development of the arguments, both semantically and structurally, and are intricately linked to the rhetorical effect of the entire stretch of speech.

However, a number of previous studies are carried out only on street (town)-to-district scales, which could cause errors of the accessibility to RCFs for a family. In order to improve the resolution to individual families, we measure and compare the accessibilities to RCFs based on 3494 residential communities and 169 streets of Guangzhou in 2020 through the two-step floating catchment area (2SFCA) method.

  • Shangxiajiu Shopping Street
Shangxiajiu Shopping Street [History of Xiguan]— [The Xiguan Shopping Arcades]— [Delicious Food of Guangzhou and Xiguan]—[Features of Xiguan] [History of Xiguan] The Shangxiajiu Shopping Street is located in the Liwan District, one of the four downtown districts of Guangzhou. For the last hundreds of years, the district has always been the busiest section of the town. However, until the 7th century during the Tang Dynasty (618 -907 AD), this place had been but a stretch of marshland with crisscrossing ditches and brooks on the north bank of the Pearl River. In 526 AD, when the Indian prince Dharma sailed east across the Indian Ocean and arrived at Guangzhou to propagate Chan Buddhism, here was the very place where he first went ashore. This Indian prince set up a hut on the bank of the river to preach Buddhist doctrine, which was gradually extended into the present-day Hualin Temple. Now the place around the temple is still called Xi Lai Chu Di, meaning” The First Landing Field when coming from the West”. Prior to the Qing Dynasty, the Liwan District lay outside the west gate of the city walls, and so the area is commonly known as Xiguan, meaning “Western Outskirts “in English. During the Ming Dynasty between the 14th and 16th centuries, Guangzhou became China’s only trading port that was opened to foreign countries and, down to the Qing Dynasty several hundred years ago, many businessmen made great fortune from trades. These millionaires were fed up with the bustle of the heavily inhabited city center and had their houses built in this area one after another, so the district gradually developed into a new residential and business quarter.

  • A Survey on Foreign Tourists' English Translation of Guangdong Tourism Images
Journal of Literature and Art Studies, October 2019, Vol. 9, No. 10, 1056-1060 doi: 10.17265/2159-5836/2019.10.007 D DAVID PUBLISHING A Survey on Foreign Tourists’ English Translation of Guangdong Tourism Images CHEN Ying-xi South China Business College Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, Guangzhou, China Metaphor, constituting culture as well as inheriting one, is a way that human beings perceive the world. The study of cognitive metaphor theory in translation illustrates the process how the people construct psychological images from one culture to another, from one language to another. A survey on Chinese to English translation has been conducted among foreigners to see their intuitive understandings of some Guangdong tourism images. The results found out three different familiarity levels of these tourism images and the English translations from the viewpoint of the foreigners. Translation can be done without understanding the actual meanings, and understanding can occur without being able to translate. Keyword: foreign tourists, Guangdong tourism images, metaphor, translation Introduction In trans-cultural communication, understanding each other refers to understanding different cultures and their experiences. It is important to realize and respect the differences among backgrounds, cultures, values, and so on. We live in a world of metaphor. Metaphorical imagination is a crucial skill when creating tacit agreements and communicating non-shared experiences (Lakoff & Johnson, 2015, p. 202). Metaphor is a linguistic phenomenon, but more importantly, a thinking mode. When doing translations from one culture to another, the factor of cognition should be considered (Chen, 2019, pp. 26-27, 35). Cognitive Metaphor and Translation Metaphor translation converts the literal meanings from one language to another.
