Wild Nothing Announces Laughing Gas EP out January 31St On January 7th, 2019 For Immediate Release Wild Nothing Announces Laughing Gas EP Out January 31st on Captured Tracks, and Gemini 10th Anniversary Shows Listen to New Single “Foyer” Photo credit: Ryan Patterson Wild Nothing - the project of Richmond, VA-based Jack Tatum - will release his new EP, Laughing Gas, on January 31st on Captured Tracks, and today presents “Foyer,” the propulsive, synth-funk lead single. Wild Nothing will also celebrate the 10th anniversary of debut album Gemini with a special run of spring shows co-headlined by Beach Fossils. All dates can be found below and tickets are on sale this Friday, January 10th, at 12PM Eastern. Laughing Gas is the third EP from Wild Nothing, and follows his recently released album, Live From Brooklyn Steel. Tatum delves deeper into the territory where he thrives: namely, the synth and sophisti-pop of the 1980s. Working within a more mechanical and synthetic framework than his previous releases, Wild Nothing continues to delicately toe the line between the organic and the unnatural. These are still pop songs, but there’s an underlying sense of uneasiness that threads the music together. Recorded in Los Angeles and Richmond with the help of Jorge Elbrecht, these five songs were originally imagined alongside last year's Indigo and were written and tracked simultaneously with the album. When work on the full-length was nearing completion, Tatum set these ideas aside; they seemed to fit better on their own. In spare moments between tours, Tatum began to look back and piece the songs together at his home studio in Richmond, reconnecting with Elbrecht to mix the EP. “I think of the EP’s title as being representative of a kind of manufactured bliss and loss of control,” says Tatum. “So much of people’s lives are caught up in the quest for wholeness and sometimes it feels so much easier to loosen our grip through these fabricated shortcuts, whether it’s escapism, self-medication, seeking external validation or any number of other things. I often find myself guilty of almost all of these, but ultimately I think this EP finds me in a place of trying to go easier on myself. I've been extremely fortunate to continue releasing the music I love after 10 years of Wild Nothing and this release feels no different.” Listen to “Foyer” - https://wildnothing.ffm.to/foyer.opr Pre-order Laughing Gas EP - https://wildnothing.ffm.to/laughinggas.opr Laughing Gas EP Tracklist: 1. Miller - a superhuman force who claims to only have 24 hours in a day but who clearly accomplishes more than someone operating under mortal time limits - discussed his free app , his popular hardback offering “ The Book of Ice ” and talked about going to Antarctica to listen to the ice field. "All I can tell you is that I'm half-Jamaican, so that was crazy cold," Miller said during the morning panel when he discussed his trip to Antarctica.

July 31, 2018 For Immediate Release Watch Wild Nothing’s “Letting Go” Video https://youtu.be/EuuT7HvrJF0 “A project that has virtually perfected the art of writing about romance" (Vulture), Jack Tatum’s Wild Nothing is gearing up for the release of its fourth album, Indigo. After a decade of making music as Wild Nothing, Indigo finds Tatum at his most efficient, calculated, and confident. Recorded at LA’s Sunset Sound and produced by Tatum and Jorge Elbrecht, it’s both a return to the fresh, transcendent sweep of his debut, 2010’s Gemini, and a culmination of heights reached, paths traveled, and lessons learned while creating the follow-ups, Nocturne and Life of Pause. Leading into its August 31st release via Captured Tracks, Wild Nothing returns to the “intoxicating, pristine cut of melancholy pop” (The AV Club) of lead single, “Letting Go,” via the official video. Directors Nathaniel Axel and David MacNutt comment, “Mourning, melodrama, psychedelic mushrooms, a bodybuilder, scarecrows, fetish rainwear, modernist architecture, catatonic schizophrenia, witchcraft, aquatherapy: Let It Go.” Watch “Letting Go” Video – https://youtu.be/EuuT7HvrJF0 Stream “Letting Go” – https://WildNothing.lnk.to/LettingGo Stream “Partners In Motion” – https://WildNothing.lnk.to/PartnersinMotion Pre-order Indigo – https://WildNothing.lnk.to/Indigo Praise for “Letting Go” and “Partners In Motion”: “[‘Partners In Motion’] a slower, moody cut with an almost voyueristic bent to its lyrics, it serves to introduce some of the horn noodling that sets Indigo apart from 2016’s Life of Pause, and every one of its frequencies is fine-tuned to Wild Nothing’s typically pristine and heavily ’80s-inspired production style.” — SPIN "'Partners in Motion' blends '80s new wave influences with gauzy dream-pop and flawless contemporary production styles.

  • SGA Releases Statement of Student Values,Kington Promotes Green Grinnell,Dog Days Are Over in JRC Fair,Thoughts on a Free Egypt
SGA releases statement of student values By Avery Rowlison Following up on a Joint Board resolution, SGA recently drafted a Student Statement of Values for Grinnell. Throughout the year, an SGA committee met weekly to write the Statement of Values. They began by brainstorming values that they thought were important to students on campus. “We found that they fell into three broad categories … community, communication and diversity,” said SGA President Ben Offenberg ’11, who led the committee. From there, the committee carefully expanded each idea into writing. “We didn’t rush it,” Offenberg said. “I was very cautious … because I wanted us to have time and really adjust what we wanted to get at.” Though the document has been mostly well received, some students, such as Tom Elliott ’11, don’t think it is necessary or fair. “By creating a document that says that these are the values of Grinnell is basically excluding any other values,” Elliott said. “I also don’t see that this is something that students really want.” Supporters of the Statement of Values disagree, such as committee member Camila Barrios Camacho ’12. “I think this is something that we’ve needed for a while and is something that many of our peer institutions have implemented already,” she said referring to the student statement of values at St. Olaf College, University of Colorado at Boulder and Lewis and Clark College. Opponents contend that the statement is limiting and oppressive because it attempts to define the values of each student on campus without everyone’s input. However, the committee in charge of creating the document is very diverse and represents a wide variety of student interests in campus, according to Offenberg.

This is our annual back- to-school issue, so we thought we’d go for a lighter-hearted, upbeat cover story. This is also the second time we’ve had a dog on the cover of our paper in my tenure, which is a neat fact, but that doesn’t mean that we’re shy- ing away from harder stories or ignoring some of the more troubling realities of life in our city. In this issue, we’re covering conversations Black Space Winnipeg hosted in late August about racism and white supremacy. We’re looking back at lessons learned from anti-panhandling campaigns run by the Downtown BIZ. And we’re discussing the importance of designated acces- sible parking spots, and why they’re so vital to Winnipeggers who use them. Our staff and volunteer contributors for this issue have also explored some of the creative ways ideas and tools are shared throughout our city.
