Let me also thank the Scientific Committee for this honour they did me to open our XIV Joint Meeting “in the footsteps of Silvano Arieti” on «Multicultural Factors in Psychotherapy». When charged with giving the OPIFER Keynote Lecture, such being the general subject of our Joint Meeting, I asked myself: how shall I contrive my lecture? And since, besides being a psychologist and a psychoanalyst, I am a philosopher of social sciences as well, I thought it useful to begin with some considerations on the very concept of multiculturalism and multicultural society, in the hope to clarify some aspects of what is becoming the new background of our lives and our work in a globalised world. As a licensed professional, you are responsible for reviewing the scope of practice, including activities that are defined in law as beyond the boundaries of practice in accordance with and in compliance with your professional standards.” With great appreciation 1 Demonstration 2 What are hypnotic phenomena? • Any response to a hypnotic scenario that does not seem to be the product of conscious intention (e.g., automaticity), or one that occurs in opposition to conscious intention (e.g., immobilization), or one that somehow alters the reality orientation on which conscious intentions are based (e.g., age progression). However… • All hypnotic phenomena occur in ordinary, daily life but without being incorporated into goal-oriented activity (e.g., suddenly not remembering a name, or driving w/o thought). Hypnotic procedure merely activates ordinary behavior within a novel perceptual context. • These phenomena are also necessary for any symptom complex: I didn’t intent to do it, I can’t stop it, or how can this be real. 3 By Dan Short 1 The Ericksonian Approach to Hypnotic December 2019 Phenomena Why use Hypnotic Phenomena? • To ratify the legitimacy of the hypnotic procedure, thus increasing positive expectancy effects associated with therapy outcomes. • To produce a type of virtual reality in which any action or experience can be tested without any risk of real-world consequences. • To transform liabilities into assets that can be utilized during lifelong problem solving. -

Fortunately, he managed to avoid becoming entangled within the psychiatric system, and instead embarked upon a journey of healing and self discovery, attempting to resolve his own personal crisis while aspiring to support others going through similar crises. Suicide in Children and Adolescents
Suicide in Children and Adolescents In an epoch when rates of death and illness among the young have steadily decreased in the face of medical progress, it is a tragic irony that persistently high rates of youth suicide and suicide attempts remain among the leading causes of death and morbidity in this otherwise vigorous age group. This worrisome trans-national pattern poses both an urgent clinical and theoretical challenge. How can these deaths be prevented? Can they be anticipated? Are there perceptible patterns of risk and vulnerability? What role do families, gender,culture, and biology play? What are the treatments for and outcomes of suicide attempters? To address these questions, experts from around the world in all areas of psychiatry, including epidemiology, neurobiology, genetics and psychotherapy, have brought together their current findings in Suicide in Children and Adolescents. Robert A. King is Professor of Child Psychiatry and Psychiatry at the Yale Child Study Center at Yale University. Alan Apter is Director of the Feinberg Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the Schneider Children’s Medical Center of Israel, and Professor of Psychiatry at the Sackler School of Medicine, University of Tel-Aviv. Cambridge Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Child and adolescent psychiatry is an important and growing area of clinical psychiatry. The last decade has seen a rapid expansion of scientific knowledge in this field and has provided a new understanding of the underlying pathology of mental disorders in these age groups.
