Greeting and Welcome

Prelude One minute of silence follows the prelude.

Opening Reading: From "Plan B: Further Thoughts on Faith" Anne LaMott Faith includes noticing the mess, the emptiness and discomfort, and letting it be there until some light returns. Faith also means reaching deeply within, for the sense one was born with, the sense, for example, to go for a walk.

Hymn 686: “Come fount of every blessing” Nettleton 1 Come, thou fount of every blessing, 3 Oh, to grace how great a debtor tune my heart to sing thy grace! daily I'm constrained to be! Streams of mercy never ceasing, Let thy goodness, like a fetter, call for songs of loudest praise. bind my wandering heart to thee; Teach me some melodious sonnet, prone to wander, Lord, I feel it, sung by flaming tongues above. prone to leave the God I love; Praise the mount! O fix me on it, here's my heart, oh, take and seal it, mount of God's unchanging love. seal it for thy courts above.

2 Here I find my greatest treasure; hither by thy help, I've come; and I hope, by thy good pleasure, safely to arrive at home. Jesus sought me when a stranger, wandering from the fold of God; he, to rescue me from danger, interposed his precious blood. A Prayer for the Evening Officiant: God be with you. People: And with your Spirit. Officiant: Let us pray. Come Lord Jesus, be our guest Stay with us for day is ending. With friend, with stranger, With young and with old, Be among us tonight. Come close to us that we may come close to you. Forgive us that we may forgive one another. Renew us so that, where we have failed, We may begin again. Amen.

The Reading John 12:20 - 33 Now among those who went up to worship at the were some Greeks. They came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida in Galilee, and said to him, “Sir, we wish to see Jesus.” Philip went and told Andrew; then Andrew and Philip went and told Jesus. Jesus answered them, “The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified. Very truly, I tell you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains just a single grain; but if it dies, it bears much fruit. Those who love their life lose it, and those who hate their life in this world will keep it for eternal life. Whoever serves me must follow me, and where I am, there will my servant be also. Whoever serves me, the Father will honor. “Now my soul is troubled. And what should I say—‘Father, save me from this hour’? No, it is for this reason that I have come to this hour. Father, glo- rify your name.” Then a voice came from heaven, “I have glorified it, and I will glorify it again.” The crowd standing there heard it and said that it was thunder. Others said, “An angel has spoken to him.” Jesus answered, “This voice has come for your sake, not for mine. Now is the judgment of this world; now the ruler of this world will be driven out. And I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all people to myself.” He said this to indicate the kind of death he was to die. : Hear what the Spirit is saying to God’s People. All: Thanks be to God. Silence is observed after the reading

Meditation The Rev. William S. Dickinson One minute of silence will follow.

Music for Meditation Prayers for Ourselves and Others Officiant: Let us bring our prayers before God the most merciful, saying “God, have mercy”.

Clergy: We bring to God someone whom we have met or remembered today and for whom we want to pray. Silence. God, have mercy.

Officiant: We bring to God someone who is struggling tonight and needs our prayer. Silence. God, have mercy.

Clergy: We bring to God a troubled situation in our world tonight. Silence. God, have mercy.

Officiant: We bring to God someone whom we find hard to forgive or trust. Silence. God, have mercy.

Clergy: We bring ourselves to God, that we might grow in generosity of spirit, clarity of mind, and warmth of affection. Silence. God, have mercy.

Officiant: We bring to God thanksgiving for a blessing of the day that is past. Silence. God, have mercy.

Clergy: We bring to God our praise for the beauty of the earth and our desire to be good stewards of all God has made. God, have mercy.

Officiant: We bring to God all those who have died, giving thanks for the prom- ise of eternal rest with God. Silence. God, have mercy.

Clergy: We bring to God all other prayers on our hearts. Silence. God, have mercy. Officiant: Watch now, dear Lord, with those who wake or watch or weep to- night, and give your angels charge over those who sleep. Tend your sick ones, O Christ, rest your weary ones, bless your dying ones, soothe your suffering ones, pity your afflicted ones, shield your joyous ones, and all for your love’s sake. Amen.

Officiant: During this season of Lent, let us confess our deep need for God’s renewing and forgiving love. All: O God, gladly we live and move and have our being in you. Yet always in the midst of this creation-glory, we see sin’s shadow and feel death’s dark- ness: around us in the earth, sea and sky, the abuse of matter; beside us in the broken, the hungry and the poor, the betrayal of one another; and often, deep within us, a striving against your Spirit. O Trinity of love, forgive us that we may forgive one another, heal us that we may be people of healing, and renew us that we also may be makers of peace. Amen.

Music for Meditation

Hymn: “Bless the Lord, my soul” Taize Bless the Lord, my soul. And bless God's holy Name. Bless the Lord, my soul. Who leads me into life.

Please rise or rise in spirit. Officiant: Let us pray: All: Eternal Spirit Earth-Maker, Pain-bearer, Life-giver, source of all that is and that shall be, Father and Mother of us all. Loving God, in whom is heaven. The hallowing of your name echo through the universe! The way of your justice be followed by the peoples of the earth! Your heavenly will be done by all created beings! Your commonwealth of peace and freedom sustain our hope and come on earth. With the bread we need for today, feed us. In the hurts we absorb from one another, forgive us. In times of temptation and test, spare us. From the grip of all that is evil, free us. For you reign in the glory of the power that is love, now and forever. Amen.

The Peace Deep peace of the running wave to you, deep peace of the flowing air to you, deep peace of the quiet earth to you, deep peace of the shining stars to you, and may the deep peace of the Son of Peace be always with you. And also with you. All now exchange a sign of peace. Praise God from whom all blessings flow. We invite you to share your gifts in support of our ministry within and beyond our congregation, especially during this time when we cannot receive those offerings in person. Make your offering online (http://bit.ly/stggive) or by mail to the church.

March 25, this Thursday, marks the feast of the Annunciation. In thanksgiving for our relationship with our brothers, sisters, and siblings in Port au Prince, Hai- ti, at Notre Dame de L'anonciation parish and school, we offer this prayer. And thank you to everyone who donated in response to our Haiti benefit concert (over $4000 raised). Notre Dame is celebrating in their Sunday service today this feast for which they are named. Let us pray: O God, you have made of one blood all the peoples of the earth and you have sent your Son to preach peace to those who are far off and to those who are near; bless and preserve our fellow parish of Notre Dame de L'anoncia- tion in Port au Prince on this their day of celebration. Pour your grace into their hearts and ours, that we who have known the incarnation of your Son Jesus Christ, announced by an angel to the Virgin Mary, may by his cross and passion be brought to the glory of his resurrection; who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen

Celebrant: As our Savior Christ has taught us, we are bold to say: Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen. Prayer for People Facing Great Uncertainty God of the present moment, God who in Jesus stills the storm and soothes the frantic heart; bring hope and courage to all who wait or work in uncertainty. Bring hope that you will make them the equal of whatever lies ahead. Bring them courage to endure what cannot be avoided, for your will is health and wholeness; you are God, and we need you. Amen.
