  • Paschal Troparion
Paschal troparion From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Jump to: navigation, search "Christ anesti" redirects here. For the greeting, see Paschal greeting. The Paschal troparion or Christos anesti (Greek: Χριστὸς ἀνέστη) is the characteristic hymn for the celebration of Pascha (Easter) in the Eastern Orthodox Church and those Eastern Catholic Churches which follow the Byzantine Rite. Like most troparia it is a brief stanza often used as a refrain between the verses of a Psalm, but is also used on its own. Its authorship is unknown. It is nominally sung in Tone Five, but often is sung in special melodies not connected with the Octoechos. It is often chanted thrice (three times in succession). [edit] Usage The troparion is first sung during the Paschal Vigil at the end of the procession around the church which takes place at the beginning of Matins. When all are gathered before the church's closed front door, the clergy and faithful take turns chanting the troparion, and then it is used as a refrain to a selection of verses from Psalms 67 and 117 (this is the Septuagint numbering; the KJV numbering is 68 and 118): Let God arise, let His enemies be scattered; let those who hate Him flee from before His face (Ps. 67:1) As smoke vanishes, so let them vanish; as wax melts before the fire (Ps. 67:2a) So the sinners will perish before the face of God; but let the righteous be glad (Ps. 67:2b) This is the day which the Lord hath made, let us rejoice and be glad in it.

March 30, 2018 We celebrate Easter this Sunday. Some of us go to church, some of us hunt for eggs and some of us do both. Now, Easter eggs and rabbits go together, of course. Have you ever seen the Cadbury chocolate ad where the various animals are vying to become the spokes animal for Cadbury? The lion, wearing ridiculous bunny ears, roars; the cat meows and clucks; the tortoise just crawls very slowly; the llama makes weird sounds while trying to cluck; and the pig sounds like he is backward sneezing while trying to cluck. And of course, none are as cute & cuddly as the white rabbit who just clucks and hops. But how did we ever get to bunnies laying eggs/bringing eggs/hiding eggs at Easter? As a kid, I remember dying eggs and then being excited on Easter morning to hunt down the eggs the Easter bunny hid around the house.

The focus of this study is the culinary culture of barbacoa- makers in the community of Barrio San Mateo, Milpa Alta in Mexico City. Mexican cuisine is analysed at three levels - the social and cuhnary(contexts)of the production and consumption of barbacoa ; the daily life bf women and especially their domestic cooking tasks; and the dynamics of hospitality ,as expressed in the cycle of fiestas. Barbacoa is pit-roast lamb, and the production of it is an important means of livelihood in San Mateo (along with the cultivation of nopales , and other agricultural activities).

Disgust and the Human Ecology of Insect Consumption: Examining the Barriers to Anthropo-Entomophagy Abstract With growing threats to food security worldwide, academic and popular literature has increasingly highlighted the prospect of using insects, given the attractive nutritional profile and productive efficiency of many species, as a protein source for humans. This project adopts anthropological and psychological perspectives to understand both the acceptance of and reluctance to using insects as food, as they continue to be traditional foodstuffs in many cultures. To do so, the project overviews in-depth case studies of traditional insect consumption in Mexico, Japan, and New Guinea. To complement this ethnographic inquiry, survey responses from adults in the United States and India are analyzed to help identify predictors of willingness to consume insects. Integrating these secondary and primary research insights underscore the prominence of disgust as a mediating factor in the acceptability of insect foods. Implications for policymakers and future researchers to transform attitudes and verify sustainability are discussed, given this prevalent cultural and psychological barrier.
