'The Distinguished Citizen' Tops Platino Awards 4:45 PM PDT 7/22/2017 by Agustin Mango Courtesy of Venice Film Festival 'The Distinguished Citizen' The Argentine comedy directed by Mariano Cohn and Gaston Duprat won five awards at the Ibero-American version of the Oscars; Pedro Almodovar grabs best director for 'Julieta.' Mariano Cohn and Gaston Duprat's The Distinguished Citizen topped the fourth edition of the Platino Awards, the Latin equivalent of the Oscars. An acid comedy set in rural Argentina about a Nobel-winning writer who goes back to his small hometown decades after leaving, the film grabbed best film, best screenplay and best actor for its lead, Oscar Martinez. Martinez had previously won Venice film festival's Coppa Volpi award for best actor. Spanish auteur Pedro Almodovar won best director for his latest Cannes-entry Julieta, and dedicated his award to the families of disappeared victims of the Spanish Civil War. Brazilian legend Sonia Braga picked best actress for Kleber Mendonca Filho's Aquarius, which also premiered at Cannes in 2016. Braga is a former recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Platino, which this year was awarded to Blade Runner star Edward James Olmos. J.A. Bayona's A Monster Calls, starring Sigourney Weaver, Felicity Jones and Liam Neeson took home four Platinos, for editing, sound, art design and cinematography. 2015 Venice- winner From Afar (Lorenzo Vigas) won the Platino for best fictional opera prima. Organized by EGEDA, the Platino Awards aim to become the Ibero American version of the Oscars, with the involvement of film academies from 23 Spanish-speaking countries, plus Brazil and Portugal. FOR DECISION Agenda item 5(a) A/23/5(a) rev.2 Implementation of the General Programme Madrid, 12 September 2019 of Work Original: English Executive summary At its 108th session, the Executive Council approved the Secretary-General’s Management Vision, which specified clear objectives and priorities for the programme of work of the Organization. The present document recalls the objectives and priorities of the Vision, introducing a new strategic component: the UNWTO Agenda for Africa 2030 - Tourism for inclusive growth. It also gives, on the one hand, an overview of the main lines of work and achievements during 2018 and the first semester of 2019 and, on the other hand, the Secretary-General’s proposed programme of work for 2020-2021, as endorsed by the Executive Council during its 110th session and now submitted to the General Assembly for its approval. The budget for 2020-2021 is available in document A/23/5(b). The issue of the United Nations Reform and the implications for UNWTO is presented to the General Assembly for its decision, taking into account the recommendation of the Executive Council that UNWTO not be part of the UNSDG for the forthcoming biennium 2020-2021. Annexes I, II, III and IV, respectively, include the lists of UNWTO events, publications, signed agreements and technical cooperation activities on the ground. Annex V focuses on the Affiliate Members’ activities. Annex VI includes the UNWTO Recommendations on Urban Tourism. Annex VII presents the UNWTO Academy. The announcement was made Tuesday at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel by actors Martha Higareda (Altered Carbon), Adrián Lastra (Velvet Collection), Jackie Cruz (Orange Is the New Black) and Oscar presenter and Mexican star Eugenio Derbez (Instructions Not Included). Derbez will host the gala ceremony at the Gran Tlachco Theater in Xcaret Park, an ecotourism development in the Mexican Caribbean's Riviera Maya resort district, on April 29, after four editions held in three different countries: Panama, Spain and Uruguay. VOL. 30 MAY 2021 The bulletin of UNWTO’s Affiliate Members from the tourism sector 1 Dear Affiliate Members, I am pleased to share with you our AM News bulletin Vol.30, which features special content dedicated to FITUR 2021 – the International Tourism Fair of Madrid – to be held from the 19th to the 23rd of May. At the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), we are actively promoting and supporting the progressive resumption of face-to-face events, in due compliance with the protocols and measures established by the national authorities. From this perspective, we see FITUR 2021 as an important milestone in the roadmap for the progressive and sustainable restart of the sector. I truly believe that, within the new and hopeful context marked by the advance in the vaccination against COVID-19, FITUR 2021 will be the first great international mobility event in Europe this year. The UNWTO Affiliate Members Department (AMD) and the host of the IFEMA/FITUR Fair, an UNWTO Affiliate Member, have jointly prepared a special package for all Affiliate Members participating at the Fair, which includes a series of advantages and benefits, as well as activities specially dedicated to our Membership. You can read all about it in this issue of the bulletin. We will continue the work to complete and reinforce this package of benefits designed for our affiliates and to keep you updated on the activities at the Fair, with the conviction that this will facilitate a significant presence of our Affiliate Members at FITUR 2021.
