November brings Bernadette McGlade and

Join us on Monday, November 6th as we welcome AC10 Commissioner, Bernadette MCGlade! McGlade is in her 10th year as the Atlantic 10 Commissioner. Named commissioner in 2008, McGlade began working to shape the A-10 image and branding as one of the top 10 Division I conferences in the country. She led the conference through the development of a five-year Strategic Initiative Plan that was adopted by the Presidents’ Council in 2010. McGlade brought Final Four partici- pants George Mason and VCU, and Elite Eight participant Davidson as new A-10 members, adding academically strong bas- ketball-centric institutions. The success of the first strategic plan led to the development of a new five-year plan in 2016. McGlade negotiated a new media rights package in 2012 that enhanced the distribution, exposure and revenues for the con- ference through its national media partners, ESPN, CBS Sports Network and NBCSN. She spearheaded a multi-year partner- ship with Barclays Sports and Entertainment Group in Brooklyn, NY, to hold the A-10 Men’s Basketball Championship in the largest media market in the world. In 2014 she followed with a unique partnership between the A-10, the ACC and Barclays securing an additional three years in Brooklyn through 2021. She also secured PPG PAINTS Arena in Pittsburgh and Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C. as the men’s basketball championship sites in 2017 and 2018. Her peers at the Collegiate Commissioner’s Association (CCA) named her as the Division I CCA representative to the NCAA Division I Council. She also was selected to serve on the Women’s Basketball Oversight Committee, which reports to the Council. McGlade spent 11 years at the ACC before her arrival at the A-10. During that time she transformed the ACC Women’s Basketball Tournament, re- sulting in capacity crowds while designing an extensive educational outreach program which is still in place today. She also founded the South Atlantic Women’s Basketball Officiating program for the ACC and three other Division I conferences. She served on the NCAA Women's Basketball Selection Committee and chaired that Committee in 1999 and 2000. Prior to the ACC, McGlade served for 17 years at Georgia Tech. She was hired in 1981 at the age of 23 -- one of the youngest Division I head women's basketball coaches in the nation and the first full-time female coach at Georgia Tech. McGlade also was ap- pointed to develop the GTAA’s Strategic Plan for the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games. In 2000, McGlade was recognized as the WBCA National Administrator of the Year, was inducted into the Georgia Tech Athletic Association Hall of Fame and the South Jersey Women's Basketball Hall of Fame. Two years later, in 2002, Georgia Tech honored McGlade as one of the 50 First Women of the Institute. McGlade was named to the ACC Women's Basketball 50th Anniversary Team and in 2008, the YWCA of Greensboro, N.C., presented her with the Kay Yow Outstanding Female in Sports award. She was named an ACC Legend by UNC as a player in 2010 and by Georgia Tech as a coach in 2012, the first person with the distinction of being an ACC Legend as a player and coach. In 2014 she was honored by NACWAA as an Administrator of the Year and one of Sports Business Journal’s “Game Changers.” McGlade has been a featured speaker at the NCAA Women's Final Four Leadership Forum, NACWAA National Conventions and has presented at the Sports Business Journal’s Game Changer Conference in New York City. A native of Glouces- ter City, N.J., McGlade earned her undergraduate and graduate degrees at the University of North Carolina. Please RSVP through the NSC office to attend! Front page continued...
