The aim of this work is to clarify the denornination of the heli cid species alternately named Iberellus companyonii (Aleron, 1837), Iberellus minoricensis (Mittre, 1842) or Helix hispanica varo pyrenaica Rossmassler, 1838. After consultation of International Code of Zoological Nomenclature (fourth edition; January 2000), the original descriptions, and the texts advocating for the symonimy of the three names, we conclude that the correct name for this taxon is Iberellus companyonii (Aleron, 1837). • Biogeography of the Land Snail Genus Allognathus (Helicidae): Middle Miocene Colonization of the Balearic Islands

Gomez-Moliner 1,2 1Department of Zoology and Animal Cell ABSTRACT Biology, Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Aim We infer the evolutionary history of the land snail genus Allognathus the Basque Country, 01006 Vitoria-Gasteiz, 2 from a molecular phylogeny. An approximate temporal framework for its colo- Alava, Spain, Biodiversity Research Group CIEA Lucio Lascaray, 01006 Vitoria-Gasteiz, nization of the Balearic Islands and diversification within the archipelago is Alava, Spain provided according to palaeogeographical events in the western Mediterranean Basin. Location The Balearic Islands, Western Mediterranean. Methods A 2461-bp DNA sequence dataset was generated from one nuclear and two mitochondrial gene fragments in 87 specimens, covering all nominal taxa of the genus Allognathus. Through maximum-likelihood and Bayesian phylogenetic methods along with a Bayesian molecular clock, we examined the evolutionary history of the group. Ancestral distribution ranges were estimated for divergence events across the tree using a Bayesian approach. We also used genetic species-delimitation models to determine the taxonomy of Allognathus. Results We provided the first molecular phylogeny of Allognathus, a genus endemic to the Balearic Islands. The origin of the genus in the Balearic Islands was dated to the middle Miocene based on palaeogeographical events in the Western Mediterranean. During the late Miocene and Pliocene, several diversi- fication events occurred within the archipelago. The ancestral range of Allogna- thus was reconstructed as the north-eastern Tramuntana Mountains of Mallorca.

Abstract A new updated checklist of terrestrial and freshwater mollusks (Gastropoda and Bivalvia) from Catalonia (Spain) is presented. This checklist includes the new taxa (species and subspecies), the new citations, and the taxonomic and nomenclatural changes that occurred during the last years, which are discussed in greater detail. A total of 337 taxa are computed: 287 gastropod species (316 when subspecies are counted) and 21 bivalve species.

The process of divergence of the common ancestor of Allognathus Pilsbry, 1888 and Hemicycla began with the separation of the Balearic islands and Kabylias. Our alternative biogeographic hypotheses suggest that the ancestor of Hemicycla colonized the Canary Islands from North Africa, once the Kabylias joined the African continent. ABSTRACT A nomenclatural revision of the species of the genus Allognathus Pilsbry, 1888, endemic of the Balearic Islands (Spain) is conducted in the present work. Particular mention is given to Allognathus (Allognathus) grateloupi , A. (Iberellus) hispanicus and A. (I.) hispanicus campanyonii . Furthermore, we include a redescription of the reproductive apparatus of A. (I.) hispanicus tanitianus (Forés & Vilella, 1993) as the original description does not repre - sent accurately, in our opinion, the morphology of the reproductive apparatus. The genetic analysis with the markers COI, 16S, H3, and 5.8 S rRNA+ITS2 reveales a high support for Alabastrina and Otala as separate evolutionary lineages within the Otalini. The position of Siretia as another separate lineage within the Otalini is discussed. “Tingitana minettei decussata” clusters within the O. xanthodon clade and confirms that the genusTingitana can be synonymised with Otala. The genus Alabastrina differs from all other known genera by possession of a penial appendix.
