Audition Packet Thank you for your interest in CRESTVIEW HIGH SCHOOL’s presentation of Annie. Below you will find audition and callback information. Auditions are Friday, January 17 and Saturday, January 18. To sign up for Auditions contact Ms.Zick or visit the CHS website/ facebook for the link. The audition time slots will be posted January 11, 2020. For your audition, you will need to prepare a one-minute monologue and a 30-second (16 bar) song. Please select material that reflects the character you are auditioning for, as well as the genre of the show. For your song, please select a song from a Broadway show – do not do a pop song! Pop music will not highlight your voice in the way that we need to hear it. You will perform your monologue and song for an audition panel consisting of the directors and other school personnel. Please arrive for your audition at least ten minutes early. If you are not there for your audition time, we will be moving on. You must also bring your completed audition application. The callback list will be posted on Remind and Callbacks are Monday, January 20 & 21 from 2:30-5:00. If you are not asked to come back for callbacks, it does not mean you are not cast. For callbacks, the production panel will be trying to fit people in roles. You will be asked to do acting and singing. You may also be asked to dance. For the acting portion, you will be asked to do cold reads from the script. It will help you to do research into the show – what is the play about? Who are the characters? What are their relationships? The internet has a great deal of information about this show and the more information you have, the more detailed your audition will be. For the singing portion, you will find the callback songs for each character in the back of this packet. We recommend you review them prior to callbacks. You may be asked to perform multiple songs if we are considering you for multiple roles. The cast list will be posted on January 22. It will also be posted on Ms.Zick’s door. Please sign the cast list if you accept your role in the show. If you are cast, your actor contract is due to Ms.Zick by January 28, 2020. Rehearsals for Annie will be Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday after school. We have built in a time for students to do homework and seek tutoring. Rehearsals will run longer as we get closer to show dates. Additionally, there will be MANDATORY rehearsals, as well as the occasional Saturday rehearsal. Please list any conflicts on your audition sheet. Conflicts do affect casting, and unexcused absences will not be tolerated because of the negative impact on the production and scheduling process. More than one unexcused absence or more than three excused absences may result in your termination from the show. An absence will be considered excused if your parent/guardian contacts Ms.Zick, and the reason for your absence includes serious illness or a family emergency. Please avoid scheduling appointments during rehearsal times, as those will not be considered an excused absence. If cast, your parents/guardians will be asked to help out. There are a variety of jobs that we need parent help for, including box office, water bottle donations, providing dinner for dress rehearsals, finding props, assisting with costumes/tech, backstage help, dressing room help, and more! It means a lot to the students when their parents are involved, and it helps the directors out a TON! Finally, there is a $25 activity fee for anyone who is cast or crew in the production. The fee covers a t-shirt, headshot and helps go towards production needs. The fee will need to be paid no later than February 1, 2020. There will be scholarships available for those who cannot pay the fee. A student WILL NOT be turned away because they cannot pay a fee. All cast and technicians will be expected to attend the first read-through on Tuesday, January 28 from 4:00- 6:00. At each rehearsal, students are expected to bring water, snacks, and a pencil (or five!). It also helps to have a binder dedicated to the show for notes and your script. Thank you for preparing for the Annie auditions. We look forward to seeing you soon! She has to be motherly, independent, overwhelmed, needy, and hopeful for the future. The actor who plays Annie must be strong vocally and musically. She must be capable of vocal projection without strain. Although she is at times aggressive or crafty, the audience should never doubt Annie is a friendly and caring child; she will go to any extent to gain the love of a family to which she can belong. Age: 10 to 12. Vocal range top: D5 Vocal range bottom: A3 OLIVER “DADDY” WARBUCKS He must appear middle-aged, self-assured and confident. At first awkwardly affectionate toward Annie, he soon finds himself completely charmed by her. The student who plays Warbucks will need to be extremely focused throughout the show. His posture, walk and speech patterns are very important. Capable of showing emotional transformation and maturity. Age: 40 to 55. Vocal range top: Gb5 Vocal range bottom: B3 GRACE FARRELL Warbucks' assistant, calm, cool, mature, classy, sophisticated and businesslike. Grace is mature, calm, cool and "together." She is classy and businesslike when dealing with Miss Hannigan and Warbucks, yet maternal toward Annie. The student playing Grace can set herself apart from the other characters simply by the sophisticated way she walks. Grace should seem ready with an answer for just about anything. Each dramatic situation should seem to come "under control" the moment she glides into a scene. Age: 20 to 35. Vocal range top: G5 Vocal range bottom: Bb3 MISS HANNIGAN This woman is definitely a "has-been." Her distaste for her job and the children that are part of it should be obvious in every line she speaks, every song she sings and every move she makes. The student who plays her must have an excellent sense of comic timing. The acrid delivery of her lines and the torch-like rendition of her songs must distinguish her from the other characters in the show. Age: 30 to 45. Vocal range top: F5 Vocal range bottom: A3 LILY ST. REGIS Distracted airhead, a bit bumbling, girlfriend to Rooster. Age: 20 to 30. Vocal range top: G5 Vocal range bottom: B3 ROOSTER HANNIGAN Flashy, self-assured, brother to Miss Hannigan. Con-man always looking for a quick buck. Age: 25 to 35. Vocal range top: G5 Vocal range bottom: B3 ORPHANS These girls are gritty, neglected and vulnerable, yet basically honest and potentially lovable. The actors portraying them must be able to have mischievous fun with each other as well as “sibling- style” fights. Each student should be able to create and shape her own character. Need to have vocal strength and be visually expressive.
