Annieplaybill2020.Pdf It’s difficult to find the right words to thank Barbara Simon for all she has done to truly make the phrase “the play’s the thing” a reality and an integral part of our Hebrew School and Synagogue. Her love of theater and caring for each and every student and zeal for creating a sense of community and Kehilah and dedication to Jewish education, have helped to make each Hebrew School musical these past fourteen years something each participant will take with them in years to come. • Bye Bye Birdie Synopsis and Character Descriptions
Bye Bye Birdie Synopsis and Character Descriptions SYNOPSIS (compliments of Tams-Witmark Music Library, Inc.): BYE BYE BIRDIE is one of the most captivating musical shows of our time. It tells the story of a rock and roll singer who is about to be inducted into the army. The singer, Conrad Birdie, an Elvis Presley type, has a pompadour and thick sideburns; he wears gaudy gold costumes and speaks in a rugged voice. Albert Peterson, his agent, is a very pleasant mild-mannered young man. Albert's faithful secretary Rose Alvarez keeps him and Birdie moving forward in the world. Rosie concocts one final national publicity plan before Conrad's induction. Conrad will bid a typical American teen-age girl goodbye with an all-American kiss. Kim MacAfee in Sweet Apple, Ohio wins the honor. All of the phones in her town are already busy during The Telephone Hour as Kim has just been pinned to Hugo, a local boy. She is a pretty girl of fifteen and sings with spring-like ardor How Lovely to Be a Woman, as she pulls on the plaid woolen socks and the baggy mustard colored sweater considered stylish and popular among young ladies. The arrival of Birdie in Sweet Apple causes people of all ages to swoon. Birdie says that his success is due to the fact that he is Honestly Sincere when he sings, and the quiet little town goes into a spin. The MacAfee household is completely upset by the visiting celebrity. It is decided that Birdie will give his One Last Kiss on the Ed Sullivan show.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CONTACT: Susan Habas Thalian Association Community Theatre 910-251-1788 [email protected] TWICE THE HOLIDAY FUN FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY WILMINGTON, NC – Thalian Association Community Theatre (TACT) is presenting two special holiday musical productions that families can enjoy together. First up is the youth theatre production and Wilmington premiere of Elf Jr. on the Second Street Stage at the HBHUSO/Community Arts Center. Based on the beloved 2003 hit movie, Elf Jr. tells the story of Buddy, a young orphan who mistakenly crawls into Santa's bag of gifts and is transported to the North Pole. "We have something very special planned for the Elf Jr. audiences,” said Susan Habas, Thalian Association Community Theatre Executive Director. "The original Buddy, Will Ferrell, has filmed an introduction just for these performances. Mr. Ferrell has family here in Wilmington and as the father of three boys, he is very supportive of youth theatre arts and education." There will also be paintings of the local ‘elves’ who will be appearing on stage on display in the lobby of the Historic USO building. Painted by 28 artists from the Wilmington Art Association (WAA) during the run of the play, this marks the third collaboration between TACT and the WAA to support performing and visual arts education for our young people. The paintings will be on sale to the public with a portion of the proceeds to benefit the Community Arts Center. See the modern holiday classic and embrace your inner elf for one weekend only December 1st – 4th. Performances are Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 7:30 PM; Saturday and Sunday matinees at 3:00 PM.
