The Journal welcomes contributions of articles and notes on subjects of relevance to English place-names. The English Place-Name Society (EPNS) was established in 1923 to conduct a county-by-county survey of the place-names of England. To date, the Survey has produced 90 volumes. Almost all English counties have been surveyed, at least in part, and work to complete the Survey is ongoing. The Survey is used by researchers, academics, and those interested in the origins, meaning, and significance of English place-names. The research work and the publication of the Survey are financed by the annual subscriptions of members of the Society, with the help of grants from the Arts and Humanities Research Council and the British Academy. Since the progress and success of the Survey depend largely upon the strength of the membership, the Society always welcomes new members, both personal and institutional. In return for the annual subscription, members receive free of charge the current issue of the Journal as well as the volume of the Survey allocated to that year’s subscription. Settlement Name: Poringland, Framingham Earl and Framingham Pigot (including well related parts of Bixley, Caistor St Edmund and Stoke Holy Cross) Settlement Poringland/Framingham Earl is identified as a Key Service Hierarchy: Centre in the Greater Norwich Local Plan. The village has a range of services including a post office, supermarket, other stores, pubs, restaurants/take-aways, two doctors’ surgeries, a dentist, a primary school, a high school, two community halls, as well as recreation facilities at the High School and some local employment. The settlement is well connected to Norwich by bus. Issues to take into account when assessing the potential for future development include the rural nature of large parts of the parishes, with the distinctive setting created by areas of heavily wooded former parkland. The 2012 South Norfolk Place Making Guide suggests that development should not further accentuate the linear settlement pattern. The settlement has a history of surface water and ground water drainage difficulties, and the most vulnerable sites were identified in an Urban Drainage Study. This issue will be a consideration for many sites in Poringland and Framingham Earl, and mitigation will be needed for any development on such sites. Amongst the constraints to further development is the need for a new additional primary school. A Neighbourhood Plan is currently being prepared for Poringland parish and is at an advanced stage. There are no allocations to be carried forward in this key service centre. There are however 536 dwellings with planning permission at the base date of the plan meaning that a substantial amount of land continues to be promoted for development in Poringland/Framingham Earl (including land in adjacent parishes of Bixley, Caistor St Edmund, Framingham Pigot, Framingham Earl, and Stoke Holy Cross).

Ashby St. Mary Parish Council Parish Clerk - Linda Gray 14 November 2011 Response by Ashby St. Mary to the GNDP consultation - Proposed Community Infrastructure Levy. Executive Summary 1. The parish of Ashby St Mary has been proposed to be placed in Zone B for the Community Infrastructure Levy. 2. The GVA presentation to the GNDP Developers Forum in May 2011 stated it had used Land Registry data of residential house prices used to determine its zone boundaries. Ashby St Mary parish council (Ashby PC) has gathered its own evidence from Land Registry sources to robustly test the fairness and correctness of this proposal. 3. Ashby PC is satisfied from the weight of evidence it has found, that, based on the adopted test of residential property prices, the boundary between zone A and B should be amended to place Ashby St Mary within zone A. Introduction • Ashby St. Mary parish council is aware it’s neighbouring parish council, Thurton, has made it’s own case regarding amending the proposed zoning area in South Norfolk. • In respect of the boundary between zones A and B in South Norfolk, it is understood from GVA that the measures used to position that boundary is determined by actual prices achieved rather than notional house prices. Ashby PC has therefore undertaken to seek and test all evidence to determine whether Ashby St. Mary warrants inclusion in zone B as currently proposed by GVA.
