HORSE SPORT IRELAND (HSI) NATIONAL COACHING and BREEDING CONFERENCE 2014 'Production of Horses for Profit and Performance' HORSE SPORT IRELAND (HSI) NATIONAL COACHING AND BREEDING CONFERENCE 2014 'Production of Horses for Profit and Performance' HORSE Sport Ireland (HSI) is delighted to announce details for the HSI National Coaching and Breeding Conference 2014. This year, the conference will focus on producing horses for profit and performance and will feature internationally renowned equestrian professionals such as international show jumping legend Michel Robert and lead practitioner for human science and sports medicine at the British Equestrian Federation (BEF) Andy Thomas. The conference will also feature explanations and demonstrations on conformation analysis of the performance horse by former KWPN inspector Jacques Verkerk as well as Dr Emmeline Hill of University College Dublin (UCD) who will discuss equine exercise genomics. This conference is a must attend for all equine professionals, riders, breeders, coaches, competitors, instructors, equine students and anyone with an interest in horses. The conference will address breeding, training, management and preparation of competition horses and riders for optimum performance. It will also feature Irish show jumping riders Capt. Michael Kelly and Greg Broderick. He has won 13 medals at Olympic, World Games and European level, come 1st in the top ten in Brussels (2006) and won the final of the Global Champions Tour CSI 5* Grand Prix in Doha (2009), to name but a few achievements. Since his retirement from international competition in 2013 Michel is now dedicated training and educating the next generation of riders and has published books and DVDs. Dr Emmeline Hill Dr Emmeline Hill is a UCD Lecturer in Equine Science and leads the Equine Exercise Genomics research group funded by Science Foundation Ireland at the UCD School of Agriculture and Food Science. She has been at the forefront of Thoroughbred performance genomics during the last decade and has published more scientific papers on equine exercise genomics than any other researcher worldwide. Andrew Thomas Andrew Thomas is currently the Lead Physiotherapist for the British Equestrian Federation. He is responsible for the Eventing, Dressage, Para Equestrian Dressage and Show Jumping Performance and Development Squads. He was the Olympic Team GB Physiotherapist to the Equestrian Teams in Beijing 2008 and London 2012. Andrew has been the Physiotherapist at two World Equestrian Games, and 8 European Championships and is the Lead Physio at Badminton, Burghley, Bramham Three Day Events and also at Olympia. Jacques Verkerk Jacques Verkerk is a horse breeding specialist and former inspector for the KWPN both in the Netherlands and North America. He specialises in judging, selecting sport horses and lectures all around the world on sport horse breeding, judging and linear profiling. Jacques also chairs the selection committee of the Elite Foal Auction Borculo, one of the top-class auctions in Europe. NGBs are key delivery agencies for Sport Ireland in the achievement of its strategic and operational goals. A key focus of Sport Ireland is to assist NGBs to develop sustainable and effective structures to facilitate increased numbers of participants and volunteers in sport. Sport Ireland invests in NGBs in line with its strategic priorities. Investment is made with the specific aim of ensuring the long-term sustainability of NGBs. 2019 sees an increase in the overall core funding budget for the NGB Sector with funding increasing from €10.845 to €12.845 million. This increased investment provides an opportunity for Sport Ireland to further strengthen the NGB sector to deliver on both Sport Ireland’s strategic objectives and those identified in the governments sports policy. To date €12.6m has been allocated to 58 National Governing Bodies of Sport. This grant covers the implementation of strategic plans and participation programmes, coach development, the hosting of events, the employment of professional staff and the administration costs of developing and delivering the sport.

Overview of the study In March 2007, the European Parliament invited the European Commission to assist football bodies and organisations in improving the regulations governing sports agents 1. In July 2007, the European Commission indicated in its White Paper on Sport 2 that it would “ carry out an impact assessment to provide a clear overview of the activities of players’ agents in the EU and an evaluation of whether action at EU level is necessary, which will also analyse the different possible options ”. The European Commission’s terms of reference for this study confirm that the European Commission “ wants to have an analysis of the situation regarding sports agents in all the sports they deal with”. The aim of the study is therefore to examine the situation of sports agents in the European Union and to identify, analyse and describe the questions that their activities give rise to as well as the solutions that have already been provided by public and/or private actors, thus enabling the European Commission to assess – on the basis of the data collected, the problems identified and the analyses carried out – whether intervention is required and, if so, at what level and in what form. The study develops, for the first time, a European outlook on the issue of sports agents.

    HSI Sport Horse/Pony Foal Championship 2020 Information Note Horse Sport Ireland is pleased to announce the details of the 2020 Sport Horse/Pony Foal Championship. The Championship for horses and ponies has a prize fund of almost €25,000. The aim is to identify, evaluate and reward breeders who have bred a foal that has the potential to be competitive at the highest International level in the disciplines of showjumping or eventing. There will be 5 regional qualifiers with separate categories and sections for hores and ponies for potential showjumping foals and potential eventing foals. The qualifiers will be held in August & September where 4 foals will be selected for the final at each regional qualifier. The best show jumping type foal, and the best eventing type foal from both the horse and pony categories. The horse section regional qualifers will have a €3,000 prize fund and the ponies will have a €1,000 prize fund. There is also a prize fund at each of the qualifiers for the best traditionally-bred foals which was introduced in 2019 and will continue again this year. Dates for 2020; Tuesday 18th August - Bridestown Equestrian Centre, Cork Tuesday 25th August – Wexford Equestrian Centre Tuesday 1st September – Tubberbride Equestrian Centre, Sligo Thursday 8th September – Creagh Equestrian Centre, Galway Tuesday 22nd September – Coilog Equestrian Centre, Kildare At the final where Champions will be named in both horse and pony sections a pot of €10,500 for horses and €1,500 for ponies will be on offer. There will be a Champion Show Jumping Foal and Champion Eventing Foal for horse and pony sections at the Final and also a Champion traditionally-bred foal in the horse sections.
