Viking Society Project
- Annika Summary Yggdrasil, also known as the world tree, connects all nine worlds and is what I'm focusing on in this assignment. In my opinion there are three main worlds, Helheim , Asgard and Midgard. Helheim is the Viking version of hell. It is ruled by the goddess Hel - half beautiful woman , half rotting corpse, she is also the daughter of Loki. Everyone went to Helheim when they died except warriors who died in battle, instead, they went to live in Valhalla. Valhalla is a great hall in Asgard, where the slain warriors went to feast. Asgard is also the home of Odin and Aesir, the Norse warrior gods. Midgard or middle earth is where the humans dwell, so practically the world as we know it. The other worlds included Alfheim, home of the light elves and the God Freyr. Vanaheim, home of the vanir the Norse God of nature and fertility. Muspelheim, home of the Fire giants, Its ruler Sutr will set Yggdrasil on fire at Ragnarok (Ragnarok is the future). Nidavellir, home of the dwarves who also lived underground. Svartalfheim, Home of the dark elves who, yet again, lived underground and Jotunheimr, Home of the rock giants , their king is Thrym a frost giant and they threatened both humans and the gods of Asgard. Yggdrasil is very important in the lives of Vikings because it's part of their religion and the more we know about the Vikings religion the more we understand about Vikings themselves . Yggdrasil could also be the meaning for why they did certain things. What's Happening In The Photos
On the realm in Minecraft I built Yggdrasil . It took 35 minutes and was very fun to build . As you know Yggdrasil is the tree that connects all nine worlds and I represented these world by using portals ( the purple bits ) . The three main worlds , helheim , Asgard and Midgard are the three portals on the trunks and on each side of the trunk there are three branches each with a portal on it to represent another world . ( just in case , these are some photos of what i built )
