It is hard to believe that the second semester is here already! I think that we are all ready for some warmer weather and to see the sun again!
Unfortunately, we very well may have some more snow and inclement weather headed our way. As a reminder, Nashville #49 will continue to post all school cancellations on Channels 2, 4, and 5. Additionally, any cancellation will be announced on local radio station WNSV 104.7 and a School Messenger call will be made to all families. We will make every effort not to dismiss early from school after kids are already present. If weather conditions deteriorate quickly and we need to dismiss early, a School Messenger call will be made immediately. Please call me if you have questions regarding our weather cancellation procedures.
Nashville #49 adopted the annual Certificate of Tax Levy on In This Issue December 19 at the regular Board of Education meeting. Since Halloween Pg. 2-5 the district’s levy was above 5 %, a Truth in Taxation Hearing was held prior to the regular meeting. The students were able to make a tree hat, reindeer food, they decorated a reindeer cookie, created a candy cane bead ornament, and they wrapped their parent’s present. The students had a great time rotating from station to station!

We then stuffed it and put in a stem to make our own pumpkins!
13 Challengers students have been busy working on several different activities. Mrs. Klingenberg has been working on trivia with students. Ms. Williamson put students into groups to build structures from notecards. They received different amounts of points depending on how much weight their structure could hold. Ms. Mitchell had students designing their own shoes from newspaper and tape. We received some interesting and stylish shoes! Miss Sabo has worked with students on their baking skills. We made baked goods and learned about the importance of how to read a recipe. Our Halloween Meeting had students in groups and they were on a scavenger hunt around the school to scan QR codes to solve clues to figure out WHO stole the candy!

4th, 6th & 8th Grade Physical Education – Coach Finke
The 4th, 6th and 8th grade Physical Education classes have been running every two Fridays out of three, since the beginning of school. Students run for a period of 9 minutes and try to accumulate as many laps as possible during that time. Students receive a token for every 5 miles they complete individually. The students have been doing a great job each week. Below is the total number of laps and miles each of these classes have accomplished for the year. 4th – 8,074 Laps / 424.9 Miles

Physical Education – Mrs. Cruser
Welcome Back! During the second quarter we focused on two main fitness and healthy living concepts. We celebrated the month of November by learning about the food groups. They did a great job remembering the groups and cat- egorizing their foods through different activities. We then moved onto healthy living ideas. We talked about getting 60 minutes of activity a day, the importance of sleep and cleanliness, and other healthy living behav- iors. We will start the third quarter with activities that will review catching and throwing, but will also be more challenging for the students. For my older students, our focus was on team games and basketball skills. The second and third grade classes learned basic basketball terms and concepts. In the fifth and seventh grade classes, the students participated in a basketball shootout. The winning teams are pictured below:
