As a regional referral base for Ontario, the Holland Orthopaedic and Arthritic Centre at 43 Wellesley Street East has an annual volume of over 5,000 surgical cases, including approximately 2,200 hip and knee replacement procedures and more than 100,000 ambulatory care visits. The Holland Musculoskeletal Program, encompassing services at both the Holland Centre downtown and the Sunnybrook campus at 2075 Bayview Avenue, is constantly striving to find ways to improve the outcomes of musculoskeletal care by building on innovations in surgery and research. "Ensuring that patients receive timely access to quality care is a top priority," says Marilyn Wright, co-chair of the Night of Stars. "Proceeds from this event will update the hospital's facilities, which we hope will help to facilitate the reduction of wait times and also give staff the tools they require to discover new ways of delivering the highest quality of care possible." For Graham Hallward, one of the event co-chairs, the evening has personal significance. Both Graham and his wife have had orthopaedic surgery at Sunnybrook. "Without a doubt I have 'grateful patient syndrome," says Graham. "The medical team with the Holland Musculoskeletal Program are at the top of their game. Their passion has been my motivation to become involved in Night of the Stars - to ensure that they can fulfill the growing demand for outstanding musculoskeletal care, education and research." INDIECAN ENTERTAINMENT presents MOON POINT A Film by Sean Cisterna (82 min, Canada, 2011) DISTRIBUTION Avi Federgreen [email protected] 416‐898‐3456 High res stills may be downloaded from: http://www.moonpointmovie.com/media.html ONE LINE An ambitionless 24‐year old travels hundreds of miles in an electric wheelchair to track down his grade‐school crush. SHORT SYNOPSIS MOON POINT is the story of Darryl Strozka (Nick McKinlay), a socially awkward and ambitionless 23‐year old who seems destined to live forever with his mother. As his cocky cousin Lars’ wedding approaches, Darryl decides that the best way to prove to his family that he is not quite as worthless as they think he is, is to track down his elementary school crush, now an obscure B‐movie actress shooting a horror film in Moon Point, and bring her to the wedding. Darryl enlists his best friend, known affectionately as Femur (Kyle Mac), and travels hundreds of miles in a wagon hooked onto the back of Femur’s electric wheelchair. On their journey, the boys meet Kristin (Paula Brancati), a sharp, sarcastic young woman who is running away from a relationship back home. Eager to join the boys on their adventure, she begins to realize that love can find you in unlikely places. But naturally, as tends to happen on such a quest, things don’t turn out quite as planned. Along the way, Darryl and his friends get shot at, track a banana to an AA meeting, and are the victims of theft by a karaoke competitor.

Want to learn more about our Thank you so much for coming out tonight to support ESA – a fantas6c community of singers, dancers, filmmakers, actors, ar6sts and musicians who are supported by school staff, guest students? Visit… ar6sts, parents and community members. Tonight is the first of what we are hoping will be an annual event to celebrate our alumni and current students, while raising funds to enhance the physical space at ESA. When the idea to hold a gala was first floated, we had no idea what the response from our alumni would be. We were overwhelmed by the generosity of our graduates to come back and join the show and we couldn’t be more grateful. Since launching the event, I have also heard from many other former students who would love to be a part of this produc6on in future years (watch out for next year’s line up!). Our Co-‐Hosts tonight (and parents of ESA grads), Robin Duke and Rosemary Dunsmore were also happy and quick to sign on and our collec6ve thanks to these fabulous ar6sts. Of course, you will also see many of our current student groups on stage tonight and we thank them and their teachers for coming out, performing and suppor6ng this event to improve their school! As audience members, we rightly focus on the stage and give great applause to the fantas6c ar6sts we see there, but I also want to thank and congratulate those who organized this evening’s show (and, in many cases, who are also working on the capital campaign to improve school facili6es).

  • INTRODUCTION Peter Corbasson
(Theme music) INTRODUCTION Peter Corbasson III: Hello, and welcome to the Humber Comedy Podcast, where we talk all things comedy. I’m your host, Peter Corbasson III. We have our first guest, Robin Duke, whose credits include the Second City mainstage and sketch comedy shows SCTV and Saturday Night Live. She currently has a recurring role on the show Man Seeking Woman. All right, welcome to the Humber Comedy Podcast. This is our first episode, and on the show today, we have Robin Duke, and we have a small studio audience today of Humber Comedy students. Robin Duke: It’s a huge audience! I’ve never seen so many people in an audience! PC: It’s fantastic. So Robin, you teach second-year improv and sketch at Humber. RD: Yes. PC: I guess my first question is, who were your comedy idols growing up? Who did you look up to when you were first toying with the idea of going into comedy? RD: Well, I started laughing at Jack Benny when I was a kid. I would just stand in front of the TV and laugh, apparently. That’s what my parents told me. I didn’t know what he was saying, or didn’t get the jokes, but his attitude and how he moved made laugh. As I got older, I would watch Richard Pryor and laugh at Richard Pryor—his characters, his little-kid character that he did. Then there was Carol Burnett. So I guess I was attracted to characters. PC: And I think that would make sense, because I think a lot of what you’re known for is your character work.

  • SCTV NETWORK to SESAME STREET SCTV Network Fri 11:45
SCTV NETWORK to SESAME STREET SCTV Network Fri 11:45-12:45 a.m., 19 Sep 1980-10 Sep 1981 One of the most brilliantly self-aware comedy series on television since the innovations of Ernie Kovacs, SCTV evolved from the stage work of the Toronto company of Second City, and followed the lead of NBC's Saturday Night Live, which had attracted talent, such as Dan Aykroyd and Gilda Radner, from the Canadian Second City troupe. The program had been produced by Andrew Alexander and Old Firehall Productions (named after the Toronto theatre that is Second City's home) since 1977 under contract to Global Television, and was originally taped in the splendid, though ultimately stifling, isolation of Edmonton. As the show syndicated widely in Canada and the U.S.A., and earned money, it could afford to return to Toronto and its more expensive production facilities. Television was undoubtedly the principal source for both Saturday Night Live and SCTV. Where the former was both liberated and bound by its live-to-air format and its status as hip vaudeville, SCTV was shaped as a studio production and, for the most part, as the signal of an actual television network in a town called Melonville. The owner of the station was a cheap, unscrupulous, sneering bastard, Guy Caballero, played by Joe Flaherty. He typically wore white suits and hats and, although he was perfectly ambulatory, masqueraded as a paraplegic in a wheelchair in order to gain respect he did not otherwise deserve. In other words, he accurately mimicked the men in the higher echelons of private television in Canada.
