“Until That Song Is Born”: an Ethnographic Investigation of Teaching and Learning Among Collaborative Songwriters in Nashville
“UNTIL THAT SONG IS BORN”: AN ETHNOGRAPHIC INVESTIGATION OF TEACHING AND LEARNING AMONG COLLABORATIVE SONGWRITERS IN NASHVILLE By Stuart Chapman Hill A DISSERTATION Submitted to Michigan State University in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Music Education—Doctor of Philosophy 2016 ABSTRACT “UNTIL THAT SONG IS BORN”: AN ETHNOGRAPHIC INVESTIGATION OF TEACHING AND LEARNING AMONG COLLABORATIVE SONGWRITERS IN NASHVILLE By Stuart Chapman Hill With the intent of informing the practice of music educators who teach songwriting in K– 12 and college/university classrooms, the purpose of this research is to examine how professional songwriters in Nashville, Tennessee—one of songwriting’s professional “hubs”—teach and learn from one another in the process of engaging in collaborative songwriting. This study viewed songwriting as a form of “situated learning” (Lave & Wenger, 1991) and “situated practice” (Folkestad, 2012) whose investigation requires consideration of the professional culture that surrounds creative activity in a specific context (i.e., Nashville). The following research questions guided this study: (1) How do collaborative songwriters describe the process of being inducted to, and learning within, the practice of professional songwriting in Nashville, (2) What teaching and learning behaviors can be identified in the collaborative songwriting processes of Nashville songwriters, and (3) Who are the important actors in the process of learning to be a collaborative songwriter in Nashville, and what roles do they play (e.g., gatekeeper, mentor, role model)? This study combined elements of case study and ethnography. Data sources included observation of co-writing sessions, interviews with songwriters, and participation in and observation of open mic and writers’ nights. -

How Tapping Helped Me Change My Life Last Year Article
h"ps://www.thestar.com/life/2019/01/06/how-tapping-helped-me-change-my-life-last-year.html How tapping helped me change my life last year By SUSIE MOORE greatist.com January 10, 2019 Over brunch last winter, I asked my happiest, most thriving friend what her secret was. She had her life so together, and success came quite easily to her (she’d had breakthrough-level wins in her business in just two years). “Tapping!” she responded, without a second thought. Intrigued, I asked her to hook me up with her tapping coach. Since that weekend, tapping has become an almost daily part of my life, and I’ll talk about it to anyone who’ll listen. Tapping, also known as EFT, or emotional freedom technique, is a tool that can offer relief from stress and emotional pain. I will in no way pretend that we fully understand why tapping works (there’s still so much we don’t know about the human body!), but I can tell you that it’s absolutely been working for me. Plus several studies have shown that it dramatically decreases anxiety. Basically, tapping combines afQirmations with acupressure, a form of needleless acupuncture, using the Qingertips to stimulate energy points on the body. This method seems to be growing in popularity, with thought leaders like Gabby Bernstein, Denise DufQield Thomas and Nick Ortner promoting it to heal issues ranging from food cravings to money worries to unnecessarily judging others. I sat down with tapping YouTube sensation Brad Yates — who’ve I been tapping with via his short, punchy and powerful videos for months now — to understand how we can use this free, easy tool to better our lives. -

2014 was a unique year for pro-wrestling, one that will undoubtedly be viewed as historically significant in years to follow. Whether it is to be reflected upon positively or negatively is not only highly subjective, but also context-specific with major occurrences transpiring across the pro-wrestling world over the last 12 months, each with its own strong, and at times far reaching, consequences. The WWE launched its much awaited Network, New Japan continued to expand, CMLL booked lucha's biggest match in well over a decade, culminating in the country's first million dollar gate, TNA teetered more precariously on the brink of death than perhaps ever before, Daniel Bryan won the WWE's top prize, Dragon Gate and DDT saw continued success before their loyal niche audiences, Alberto Del Rio and CM Punk departed the WWE with one ending up in the most unexpected of places, a developing and divergent style produced some of the best indie matches of the year, the European scene flourished, the Shield disbanded, Batista returned, Daniel Bryan relinquished his championship, and the Undertaker's streak came to an unexpected and dramatic end. These are but some of the happenings, which made 2014 the year that it was, and it is in this year-book that we look to not only recap all of these events and more, but also contemplate their relevance to the greater pro-wrestling landscape, both for 2015 and beyond. It should be stated that this year-book was inspired by the DKP Annuals that were released in 2011 and 2012, in fact, it was the absence of a 2013 annual that inspired us to produce a year-book for 2014.
