The Centre., which waB ~stabl.ishe MAJOR CONFERENCE A conference lasting a day and a half was held at the end of September, on the subject of the implications for Australia of Britain's withdrawal from Asia. It was attended by members of five Australian universities, several government departments, parliamentary representatives, Commonwealth diplomats, and a selected group of press. Papers were g iven as follows: 1. The substance of U.K. defence policy changes Dr T.B. Millar (A.N.U.) 2. Possible effect on u.s. policies in South-east Asia and Pacific Professor A.L.
