Mr Sethi was the former MD of Vodafone M-Pesa Ltd. Mr. Sethi takes over from Mr. A.P. Singh who had been the interim MD & CEO of IPPB since January 2017. IPPB is headquartered in New Delhi. Rakesh Asthana Appointed Special Director of CBI Gujarat-cadre IPS Officer Rakesh Asthana was appointed the special director of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Asthana, a 1984- batch IPS officer, had been serving in the Central Bureau of Investigation as additional director. He is among eight senior police officers promoted by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet. It is launched under skill India Mission. The ministers also laid the foundation for a Skill Development Centre at Moti Bagh and a Centre of Excellence at Dharam Marg, New Delhi. Bangladesh Signs Deal with India for Oil Import Bangladesh has signed a long-term sales and purchase agreement with an Indian refiner to import gas oil to meet the country’s energy demand. The deal between Bangladesh Petroleum Corp. (BPC) and Numaligarh Refinery Ltd (NRL) was signed in presence of India’s external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj, who arrived in Dhaka recently on a two-day visit to discuss bilateral issues. Under the deal, BPC will take up to 250,000 tonnes of gas oil each year from NRL for the first three years of the deal to the BPC’s northern fuel depot via a 131-km (79 mile) pipeline, which will be built by India. www.talentsprint.com 2 Current Affairs: October24, 2017 Geethanjali Rao named America’s best young scientist Eleven year old Geethanjali Rao has been named America’s Top Young Scientist for her sensor that can detect lead levels in water better than traditional methods. The appointment would be effective from December 1, 2017 subject to regulatory approvals. He succeeds Stuart Milne. Mr. Rikhye is currently Head of International, Asia-Pacific, responsible for 11 markets in the region. C N R Rao chosen for Von Hippel Award 2017 Eminent scientist Professor C N R Rao has become the first Asian to be chosen for the prestigious Von Hippel Award for his immense contribution in materials research. The award is the US-based Materials Research Society’s (MRS) highest honour. Gonsalves, a New Delhi-based Supreme Court lawyer, will share the award and the prize money worth over USD 300,000 (SEK 3 million) with two other laureates -- Khadija Ismayilova from Azerbaijan and Robert Bilott from the US, according to a statement by the 2017 Right Livelihood Awards Honour Inspiring Change makers and Champions of Justice. Amjyot Singh becomes third Indian to be selected in a NBA Team The 6-foot-9-inch Chandigarh hoopster Amjyot Singh became the third Indian - after Satnam Singh and Palpreet Singh Brar to walk into the National Basketball Association (NBA) league. With children finishing up exams, there was so much happening within the Hi5 family – coaches getting ready with the camp curriculum, sports coordinators tweaking their life skills curriculum, planning activities and gearing up on spoken English lessons for the camp. Many PTA meetings was held for the anxious parents who are sending their children away for the first time in their life. Just not the camp – but lots of exciting things happened in April like U18 state championships for girls and boys. A big shout out to Hi5 Youth Foundation in 3x3 India’s first Professional Basketball League launch and press meet was like icing on the cake when Hi5 got some publicity through this event. Hi5 Residential Summer Camp at Ghadge Maharaj Ashram School in Vajreshwari The residential camp started off with the “girls only” camp for the first two weeks from April 15th to April 29th. About 70 children were bussed from Mumbai to Vajreshwari and they were welcomed by 30 ashram school girls who were already at the camp. Emotions running through some girls who were coming to the camp for the first time. After a day of settling down in their home away from home – children bonded and made friends with children from different schools. Waking up early for yoga to indoor activities in the afternoon and playing basketball for 8 hours of the day – the girls were indeed delighted. Eat, breathe and play basketball with more than 100 children at the camp.
