Domain • All living things are classified into a Domain • There are 3 currently recognized Domains • Archaea (Archaebacteria) • Bacteria (Eubacteria) • Eukaryota Kingdoms • There are currently 6 kingdoms Archae (Archaebacteria) Bacteria (Eubacteria) Fungi Protista (Protist) Plants (Plantae) Animals (Animalia) Kingdoms • 4 main characteristics are used to classify organisms into kingdoms –Type of cell (prokaryotic or eukaryotic) –Number of cells (unicellular or multicellular) –Food source (autotrophic or heterotrophic) –Mode of reproduction (sexual or asexual) Prokaryotic Eukaryotic • Has a nucleus • Pro means NO • You have a nucleus • No nucleus and are Eukaryotic Unicellular Multicellular
